We chose this hotel for this year's Christmas break after reading other reviews during the year. It was certainly secluded and right on the slipway of the quay. For the younger element, plenty of local cliff walks. The rooms are very varied and we had number 307 which is one of the smaller ones, but had a king size bed....

All went out of their way to make our stay relaxed, comfortable and enjoyable. Room a good size, perfectly clean, well appointed and, within limits of an old building, quiet. Food consistently good, with only a few minor quibbles, outstanding dish was crab soufflé and bisque. A little garnish here and there would have enhanced presentation of what was generally...

Great experience, amazing place right by the sea and the staff went out of their way to be helpful and make our stay special. Recommended to anyone looking for a quiet, romantic getaway. Wish Cornwall wasn't so far away!

It's been two years since we last visited the lugger. It's had a few updated tweaks and changes but is still a special place to stay. We were only able to stay one night having previously on 4 separate visits stayed in both the hotel and cottage ( lovely!) on this occasion we stayed in room 307 which is smaller...

The Lugger is in a wonderful location, with excellent coastal walks in both directions. The hotel pretty much lives up to the setting. Friendly staff, breakfast and dinner were both consistently good, apart from my wife's porridge. Lot of nice touches, fruit and a huge box of chocolates on arrival, cake each afternoon, hot chocolate and marshmallows at night, water...

We spent two nights here in October whilst I was recovering from treatment for cancer. We found a deal through Secret Escapes which included one dinner, one cream tea and chocolates and wine in the room. I also updated the room to a sea view room and was absolutely delighted with it. We were greeted as long lost friends, the...

We knew nothing of Portloe, but as my wife has never been to Cornwall, we scoured the internet, and came across The Lugger Hotel, and booked it. We were not disappointed. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and very professional. We would recommend this hotel.

Can't believe the last reviewer - doesn't sound like the same hotel we have just stayed in. We thought the staff were exceptional - incredibly helpful and professional. Food was wonderful and the bar and lounge cosy and inviting - and we were happily chatting for hours with other guests. Amazingly, the photos on the secret escapes ad were true...

We were on a mini Cornish road trip and having stayed in Portloe many years before my girlfriend chose the Lugger as I had an idea of the walking locally. The more recent reviews were pretty good so seemed like a good plan. We arrived after a fairly serious walk and wished to relax. What we should have done was...

Just arrived home after a two day Secret Escape deal at the Lugger Hotel. Although the hotel is advertised as "Dog Friendly" we soon discovered that apart from our room our dog wasn't allowed anywhere in the hotel. Whilst I understand that dogs shouldn't be allowed in the restaurant I found it strange that they're not welcome in the bar...
