Tonight we visited the Sutherland Inn at Brora, all i can say is £14 for frozen chips, frozen Scampi and frozen peas is not good value, nor particularly enjoyable. My Cajun chicken was OK but all pre prepared vegetables. On a positive note the staff were really good and a credit to the Inn.
Room number 4 is to be avoided. The toilet, shower and sink make a noise like an aeroplane taking off as soon as you run the water or flush the toilet. If it rains, (and we're in Scotland) the rain comes down via a broken gutter and hits the window frame sounding like someone playing drums 🥁 then when the rain stops the dripping afterwards is like a form of torture. The rooms look bright and cheery in the photos but in reality the room is dark grey with dark coloured carpet. Very depressing. We had someone in the room above us and you could hear their every step. I found myself praying they'd get into bed and not move. Service at the evening meal was extremely slow. 40 minutes for the starter to appear, then half an hour for the main after the waitress took away the soup plate. The breakfast was good. The waitress was lovely and dealt with our grumpy complaints with apologises and told us the owner had tried to get someone to fix the gutter. She was like a wee bright light in the Sunderland ensuring we had enough to eat with a bright smile. 🌞 We wouldn't use this hotel/Inn again.…
This hotel is exactly what is says, an Inn. Nothing fancy, clean tidy, a good inexpensive stopping place which takes dogs. Staff were conscientious, polite and accommodating. Food both evening meal and breakfast were fine, basic pub grub but not everything with chips. Hearty portions at a reasonable price.
We stayed for 2 nights in Brora at the Sutherland Inn. We chose to eat both nights and on both nights the food was good, especially the Chicken and Chorizo Tagliatelle, however the chilli was pretty tasteless on our first night. Our room was ok, bit on the dark side and no heating in the toilet but a very comfy bed. We enjoyed drinks in the bar and the atmosphere was good. So why only a 2, customer service was poor. When we checked in we confirmed we had diner booked for 8, we were told we could bring the time forward the we were told we couldn't the the waiter came yo us at 6:45 to say our table was ready which suited us fine but we then had to wait 45 for food. Twice during the evening the waitress on duty approached the barman and interrupted him while he was dealing with me. On our arrival at the hotel on our first night we had agreed with the barman that we would have breakfast at 9, this was confirmed later in the evening and put on our booking slip. Next morning we arrive downstairs for breakfast at 8:58 to be told by the waitress breakfast was finished , she then went to fetch the owner, he arrived a few minutes later and pointed out that it was now after 9 so breakfast was over, we explained what had been agreed with the barman and the owners only solution was to offer to phone his wife who was at that time opening another business so we left. Next day however ourselves and two other guests we served our breakfasts after well after 9, so why we couldn't have had breakfast the previous day has not yet been explained. Won't be back.…
We had a lovely stay here, and an amazing breakfast. Just what we were looking for. Great location on the nc500 too. Great pub down stairs. The staff were helpful and very welcoming. We would definitely visit again.
Thank you very much for making us feel so welcome, we received great service for the duration of our stay. Good food, and the breakfast is second to none! I would highly recommend staying at the Sutherland Inn, especially if you’re doing the NC500
Thoroughly recommend the restaurant and bar, lovely evening meal and breakfast. Staff also great and really helpful. Rooms are quite dated (particularly the bathroom) and need a refresh. Everything appeared clean tho which is most important. Good location, stayed whilst travelling the NC500 which worked well.
Stopped in Brora on my journey and wish I hadn’t. Place looks nice but the staff didn’t even acknowledge myself or family. Very rude and not impressed so moved on. If have to stop in Brora ise the coop opposite this place; even then they weren’t the cheeriest....
Really enjoyed our stay ,friendly welcoming staff. Room spacious but needs an update especially the bathroom, which was a bit grim.Hence the 3 stars not 4. Breakfast excellent and evening meal of fish and chips lovely. Brora itself is a stunning seaside village with brilliant walks and stunning views.
Food was below average, I ordered the fish and chips which for a large was around £15 if I remember correctly, I think this price is too expensive because the fish was greasy, there was more batter than fish and the chips were undercooked. In my opinion I just didn’t think it was worth paying for, safe to say I will not recommend and will never go back again.
