Tried to overcharge me by 1200 rupees! I paid without thinking because the lady who runs the place seems so nice, then I got half way down the street and realised it couldnt possibly be right. Went back and had to have a stand up row with the woman, who was extremely rude, in order to get 1000 rupees back. Still overcharged by 200 though. This is the most popular place in Dharamsala and I would have given it a good review had it not been for this, though it is a bit overrated and overpriced. Also don't pay 30 rupees for the wifi, this is a total rip off, they even charge you if you are a guest and you are eating there. Many places in Dharamsala allow customers free wifi. Try Lhamo's croissant which is just down the road.

Overall, we LOVED this place. It is a gem & a nice getaway from the regular noise and push-and-pull Indian life. Plus, it's a great place to meet other travellers.

Firstly, their website did have an online reservation form but we were told at check-in that there are no online reservations. First-come first serve. So don't bother phoning or "booking" online. Hopefully they'll remove that feature if it's not honoured.

If coming in on the bus with other travellers, try to make a bit of a bee-line (rush) to the hotel. Ask for directions right away if needed. Most travellers are headed here as well & the day I went they booked up very fast. It was fully booked by mid-afternoon. IF you don't get a room your first day there, I'd recommend finding another near-by place and then come back the next morning to book a room here when other travellers have left.

If you have hot water in your room (not many rooms in India need it! But it's cooler up here near the mountains and you'll want it in the morning!) the water is heated by both water heaters & solar panels. It can take some time for the hot water to reach your room. We had problems our first night, but as soon as we mentioned it to the staff they were ready to bend over backward to help us get hot water working.

You can fill water bottles in the lobby for 10 rupees. DO THIS! There is a huge problem of waste in India with travellers buying a new water bottle each time they need a drink. There are no recycling programs so water bottles pollute the area. Please re-fill! It's the "Green" Hotel, afterall.

The Tibetan staff are kind and gentle hosts. If you learn a few words of Tibetan they will just love and appreciate you even more. They have amazing stories to tell if you ever chat them up and they have the time (most of them are refugees that escaped the Chinese in Tibet).

The restaurant had some of the best food we ate in all of India. All vegetarian, but even meat eaters we met there said the meals were so filling and wholesome that they didn't miss meat at all. Good prices. Good portion sizes. The restaurant is one of the more popular places to eat and many travellers stop in here for a bite. Also, good cafe items (hot drinks, coffees, and desserts). Wi-Fi and internet cafe are available.

This was our favourite place in all of India.

We stayed 5 nights at green hotel. What a nice place. Great staff, very welcoming which is rare in dharamshala/mcleodganj. The room is comfortable and clean. The wifi was a bit weak. They give us a heater for free which was good because it is cold now in mcleodganj.
The restaurant is also good and cozy with many kind of cakes that we all tasted.
Would recommend.

We stayed 3 nights and 4 days at green hotel and it was a fantastic experience : Tibetan food, confortable rooms and very nice staff !
Also the manager gave us good recommendations for activities and help us a lot when I lost my mobile in the taxi airport ! Thanks !
If you want a good yoga instructor ! Please go and see shiva .. it’s 15 min walking close by the hotel and shiva delivers 4 classes a day ... it’s in ram house near Norbu hotel : the place is a bit difficult to find (ask the map to the hotel) but worth the view : best place in darhamsala to do yoga for us with a top view of the mountains!

Center to main square and easy travel to Dharamshala, Dharamkot, Bhagsunag is plus.
Restaurant very good in all aspects. Hotel just average, but no better options at that center. Booked for one day, but stayed for two days.

I wish I could give it a negative rating. The owner is extremely rude and impolite. Some of the boys in the staff are highly unprofessional and not disciplined. They have a very casual attitude towards their guests.their staff misbehaved with us and the owner had nothing to say. He was happy to loose us. We were 11 people and had booked 5 rooms.

We ordered variety of coffees. When the staff brought our first order we asked what is this. The staff answered latte order Kiya hai to latte hi hoga na... It was recurring. The staff also passed unprofessional remarks. We were stunned to see the callous attitude. Upon raising the issue, the owner casually said if you want to go you can go.

DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL!!

I called this hotel as i wanted to check its location. Some lady picked up and without knowing why i called she said "we dont take bookings oh phone ok, go to bookig.com'". And that lady was exrremely rude. Seems like good online rating got into her head...Then she hung up. Shows the quality of staff and vibe this hotel must be having. Hope they see this review and work on their communation

McLeod has more to do and more restaurants and places to stay than Dharamsala. It's livelier and, I think, more interesting. That said, however, it's also more touristy. So, depending on what you like.... Green Hotel doesn't have a parking lot but I think there were some cars parked on the road. However, the streets are rather narrow and full of cars and people. You might ask the hotel about parking.
