Very clean rooms, great view of the mountains... we went with the 2,000 rupee a night room, which was far nicer than the 1,000 a night, which they also showed me. Very clean, very comfortable for the price! Would stay here ago.

I stayed 4 nights at the Green Hotel and ate every single meal in the
café in the hotel.
I had room 112 which was 1000 rps per night. The water was hot,
the bed was comfortable and the room had a small verandah with
great views over to the mountains and the village below.
The location was excellent, in Dharamsala you need to be on the high
roads, and this hotel was close to the square .
The restaurant is excellent, the best Tibetan Vegetarian food.
The staff especially Chookie who seems to run the show were so
helpful. Love it.

Stayed here for two nights on an unplanned trip with friends. First thing you notice is the awesome view it offers. They have many types of rooms to suit every budget.. We took the expensive ones for the view. Next two hours we regretted the decision totally.. This was the worst possible service I could expect.. Forget hot water, the room had anything which you could call a basic amenity. Dirty water, no heating, no room service, no drinking water to name a few. The lady at the reception is an irritable figure who entertains foreigners at the cafe and not her guests. I would suggest taking the hptdc hotel rooms or some other home stays, but u can consider the cafe which is quite good.

We had booked Green Hotel after looking at a host of other properties. And we were not disappointed. I called in early in the day and spoke to Diki ( the lady who owns& runs the show here), informing her that we would check in late. I also informed her that I was travelling with my Mom.We reached in at 9 pm and were pleasantly surprised to see Diki welcome.Very thoughtfully she had allocated us ground floor rooms, so thatmy Mom didnot have to climb stairs.
The rooms were as they were described with great views.
We decided to have breakfast at the cafe at Hotel Green the next day. They serve a very good Farmers Breakfast & Tomato Omelette. And wonderful Darjeeling Tea. The prices are reasonable. Breakfast for a family of 4 will cost in th e range Rs 600- 750
We asked for doormats- which was promptly give. There is no room service. There is a water refill station at the entrance of the cafe, so fill your water bottles before retiring for the night. The cafe is teeming with foreigners and has a nice seating arrangement inside and outside as well. We preferred the outside- the weather was pleasant
We were happy that we chose to stay here. Recommended for family/backpackers/solo as well

Keeping in mind this is not a five star property so everything is relevant. Beds were great, rooms very clean. Great English television channels, movies etc. I found myself eating in their restaurant quite often which I don't usually do. Cheese lasagna was very good. Much better than nicks down the road. Their thali was very good as well.
BUT nothing can compare to the staff's hospitality which created such a warm feeling z that I became friends with other guests and had a wonderful time. I booked for a week and stayed 3. Wifi was iffy at times but I think it was the weather.
Tenzin.. with his warm wonxderful smile created a wonderful environment. Jigme with such a gentle spirit and so very warm and helpful and Dickey in the restaurant and the desk always new what I needed before I did lol. I would never stay anywhere but here.

Rapid review:

It is around 45 minutes away from Kangra Airport (Rs. 850/- for prepaid taxi). Excellent location and good hotel. You can enjoy views of dauladhar and sunsets right from room balconies, you are a minute away from great food joints and shopping market, bus taxi stands. At walkable distance to major attractions. Mid range tarrifs. Go for Rs. 2200/- rooms on 2nd floor. Really nice. ( we had 501)

Detailed review :

Hotel Green gives you the best of 3 worlds ! 1. It offers rooms with large balcony with mountain view so you are close to nature all the time 2. it is very centrally located 3. it is reasonably priced. Apart from these 3 key factors, the hotel has a their own nice restaurant at the ground floor, the famous Nick’s kitchen and Jimmy’s kitchen is just 2 minutes walk away. I read lot of reviews on net before I finalized on the location and I am glad I made the perfect choice.
Some of us like nature and rather lots of nature but in the hilly areas after the sunset it becomes too quiet, dark and can get boring. If you stay in location like the Hotel Green has, trust me you can enjoy your whole day sightseeing and upon return you may rest a little, take a shower and then again go down for walk or dinner or shopping. It is great to walk into the lit up market areas.
I strongly recommend staying here and listed are some benefits of staying here :
1. Excellent power back up system
2. Great set top box and TV connections, good quality net
3. Flawless housekeeping
4. Great and helpful staff guides you throughout.
5. Walkable to major attractions 1. Bhagsu waterfal, temple, Public swimming pool, Dalai Lama temple, market bus and Taxi stands
6. They have their own taxi contacts. You can keep the telephone number with you. If you venture out on foot and at any point you are tired or in trouble in the midst of your hiking trails , just call them and the taxi will be there to pick you (upto motorable roads).
I think I could make best out of my 3 nights’ stay at Macloedganj because I chose to stay with Hotel Green.
Note : Monkeys are strolling along the balconies looking for food. They gate crash easily if the balcony doors are found open. Generally harmless but run away with food or packets that they suspect may have food . so be careful.. If you are sitting around , they will not come but if they find you are not around or taking a nap.. the theft is assured 😉 They are always taking rounds and looking for that one golden opportunity!😊 This however is the case with every hotel and household in Macloedganj!!!

The hotel is located some 200 metres from McleodGanj centre and close to the taxi and bus stand. Personally, one of the best hotels on the road. It is a 2 km walk to the waterfalls though.

The rooms are spacious and clean, especially the ones on the upper levels. Lots of sunlight in the morning which helps in the chilly weather. They have round the clock hot water. The lower rooms are cheaper and have smaller wash rooms.

The restaurant & kitchen is on the ground floor and serves excellent food. They have a lot of variety and the food is delicious.

The owner, Jimmy, is a nice chap and helped us with locations around Mcleodganj and other bookings.

It is to be noted, the hotel is doesnt have parking and towing vans keep making rounds in the area.

I stayed here for two nights and I was very happy with my stay. The room was basic but it's a cheap guesthouse so you can't really expect more than that. The room had an attached shower and the water was very nice and hot. We also had a balcony with a stunning view of the surrounding hills and mountains. But the best part was definitely the cafe which had great Wifi. Many people (locals and tourists) come here everyday to just sip on a hot beverage and enjoy the great atmosphere, and make use of the free Wifi. The food and the hot beverages are excellent. I must have had the Lemon Ginger Honey tea a dozen times during my stay. It's also close to the town center meaning you can get around easily. Definitely worth staying here.

We paid for a room and found out that the shower is broken. They didn't want to fix it And offered us to use a bucket instead. They didn't offer us to move to another room or to compensate us in another way.

Stayed here with a group of family and friends. Great location near markets, rooms were basic but comfortable enough. A bit run down like most hotels in this price range. Some of the showers only had boiling hot or cold water, so we ended up just using the bucket. Some beds were quite hard. Nice view from balcony. Clean enough.
Hotel has restaurant which had a cute vibe but service was quite slow at times. One waiter was particularly helpful, the rest mostly ignored you. Food was average. The area is very loud at night with dogs barking - if you are a light sleeper id recommend ear plugs!

McLeod has more to do and more restaurants and places to stay than Dharamsala. It's livelier and, I think, more interesting. That said, however, it's also more touristy. So, depending on what you like.... Green Hotel doesn't have a parking lot but I think there were some cars parked on the road. However, the streets are rather narrow and full of cars and people. You might ask the hotel about parking.
