Having walked through a very busy town we were delighted to find this beautifully renovated, Hamptons style restaurant, right on the beach.
The restaurant has been superbly renovated with bleached wooden floors, Parasols, and an amazing terrace directly facing onto the beach, and superb cocktails wine and food.
On arrival the owner was holding a staff meeting with all her staff prior to service beginning - a sure sign of a well run place.
The food - we had langoustine risotto and whole bass were beautifully cooked and nicely presented. Excellent selection of wines .
The place is very Covid aware, staff wear masks, and we felt very comfortable eating there.
The town is busy and this is an oasis of calmness and quality and the owner exudes bonhomie!
I believe the bedrooms - which are un renovated, will be refurbished this winter , after which it will be a fantastic place to stay as well as eat.

Le Grand Chalet is a 3 star hotel in a fine location right on the beach in the seaside town of Ronce les Baines. It has recently been completely renovated and modernized.
Geraldine, the extremely charming proprietress, is very accomplished and her staff are all friendly and helpful.
The hotel bar and restaurant have been beautifully redesigned, and there is an oceanside terrace with splendid views. The menu was varied, as was the wine list, with something for everyone and the food very good. The service is amicable, and very attentive. We enjoyed the atmosphere, the food, the wine and watching the spectacular sunsets. It was very busy and is obviously popular with the local residents as well as the mostly French hotel guests.
The extensive buffet breakfast was nicely done with fresh croissants and chocolatines. It was hard not to eat too much.
The bright pristine rooms have a pleasing beach style decor and are simply, but very comfortably furnished with excellent bathrooms. They vary in size and are priced accordingly. Many of them have the ocean view as ours did.
The hotel is in a quiet spot (parking is easy) but it is only a short walk into the town which has a definite holiday atmosphere..
The oyster port of La Tremblade is close by and Geraldine sent us there to eat them at La Grève. They were delicious and the restaurant was fun.
There is a lot to do in this delightful area (all covered on the hotel's excellent website) and Le Grand Chalet is the perfect place to stay.

The bottom line is that you only really come here for the location. Sat right on the beach with a stunning pool and terrace that looks out to the bay. It is the perfect spot.

The hotel is clean and well maintained throughout. The public areas are modern and pleasant. The standard rooms, which are quite compact, have been renovated recently but you can tell its been done on a budget with the minimum, basic furniture an dinky little TVs hidden in the corner.

Didn't eat at the restaurant other than breakfast, which was basic and average with some items running out mid service. The full food menu looked ok, if a little expensive and lacking in adventure, it offered nothing to tempt us in.

For the location I would probably go again for the odd night, but I won't be expecting luxury.

Hello Tribymullard, Thank you for your review. It is always a pleasure to be welcoming people from oversea in our little corner of paradise. We are thrilled you appreciated the terrace, the pool and the view. We are so privilaged to be living in this corner of the world. As far as the hotel goes, we took this old man over in May 20219, right prior covid and have been renovating since then. If bamboo and wood is not up to your taste, well, we tried to get a relaxing and natural feeling to the place where nature is everywhere. Also, We do not pretend to be what we are not. We are a 3 stars hotel, not a 5 stars. This being said, as far as the rooms go, you probably booked a regular size room (150sqft/15sqm). Know that you also have the possibility to book and delux room (250sqft/25sqm) or a suite (350sqft/35sqm). Way roomier. Our website is very clear about our service and our rooms. Size, description of each category with plenty of pictures to show our guests what they would get if they choose to stay with us. No room for mistake. we are quite surprise that you are actually surprised. Our website is well translate in english to make sure our guests would not be lost in translation at any point while making their reservation. www.le-grand-chalet.fr Our breakfast is a buffet, we don't run out of item. If so, our staff replace them right away. This can happen when 50 of our guests come at the same time for breakfast. It takes our staff only few minutes to put items from the kitchen up to the buffet. Especially as our croissant and chocolatine are baked in house... time to get out of the oven maybe.... On the restaurant side, well, what to say since you did not even try. We offer, tapas, burgers, salads, super fresh seafood, local oysters, vegetarian option, T bone steak and so on. As it is fall time, fresh mushrooms, figs, local chesses etc... which might not be to your taste despite the large choice of items. Again, and as you said at the end of your review. Do not expect luxury. Well, we don't pretend to be a luxury place. Our goal is to run a nice renovated place with a homy and relaxing feeling to it. We denifitly don't identify our place as a luxury place. The prices we practice are definitely not the one of a luxury place neither. We are looking forward to welcome you again for the odd night. Kind Regards

I am reviewing the restaurant only as we had lunch here on 2 separate occasions whilst staying locally. The welcome and service is excellent which is matched by quality food and presentation. The fish and chips on our first visit was exceptional and to top it all the beachside location is beautiful

I've come several times and I always enjoy it! But not very good! Caesar salad for 20 euros (more expensive than in Paris) and really without any flavor, lack of sauce and when I ask for more they bring me oil and vinegar... the charcuterie board just taken out of its plastic packaging and way too salty! In short, we left on an empty stomach! The boss made a commercial gesture and gave us the board as a gift (still 17 euros) but very disappointed!

Very nice establishment , well maintained

Cocktail side nothing wrong with both the content and the container worrying about doing well with envy

As for catering, it’s perfect team spirit! The smile is waiting for those who do not spoil anything to the very nice plates that are sent
So we come back! Exceptional setting with 180’ ocean view

Cordialement
