Upon arrival at the 'Marchbank Hotel' our taxi driver was asked when we were due to be leaving!!!! Warmly welcomed by the young waiter/barkeep, we proceeded to order gins and tonic. Although the variety was good (3 in number) the quantity was slightly limited. When asked for lime or cucumber, the member of staff obliged with sourcing some of the...

We have been here more than we have any other restaurant in Cumbria & Dumfriesshire and it occurred to us during a recent dinner that out of all the restaurants the quality of food and standard has always been high. We have enjoyed every visit. The food is good, the Wine of the month has always been good. I had...

My husband & I had 2 evening meals at the Sportsman Restaurant in the Marchbank Hotel. Both evening meals were lovely, great food nicely cooked & plenty of choice. My husband is on a special diet & is unable to eat quite a few things but all his requirements were catered for without any problem. I attended the restaurant with my partner to celebrate her birthday on the 27th Feb. We had booked to sit for our meal at 7pm, their advice. We were asked for our preferences, and informed the waitress that I had a severe allergy to onions and mushrooms, and under no circumstances could I have these or cross contaminated food. We...

A warm welcome from Richard and Clare. Comfortable and spacious rooms. Great food in a delightfully unfussy and unpretentious manner. In fact everything is nicely understated making for a relaxed stay at a very reasonable price. Do check out Harrington's paintings.

I have returned to the Marchbank on route to Scotland , an ideal stop over point . This day I arrived early and still received a "would you like a pot of tea" greeting. Richard and Family provide a personal service that is second to none. Richards cooking is Masterchef quality .....when will he apply to go on the show...

My wife and I went to the Marchbank Hotel this year by way of a change. The food was superb. I started with scallops, followed with venison medallions for my main meal. My wife's starter was lobster, followed by a main of salmon. We both finished with sticky toffee pudding, which was beautifully cooked, very light and very flavoursome. We...

We visit this area 4 or 5 times a year and have tried all the hotels in the surrounding area. The Marchbanks stands head and shoulders above the rest. A family hotel which is friendly and spotlessly clean. The food is excellent and the rooms comfortable and great value.
