Location: This hostel is located in a scenic spot high above El Castillo, on the south side of Lake Arenal. I'm sure there are people who manage to get here without their own vehicle, but it would be tough walking up the mountain to get here. The views once you get here are stunning though, and you can see the...

Essence Arenal is a great place to be. All the staff is really nice and disposable. They propose a lot of tours and activities, no time to get bored. And the view is breath taking. you can also access to the farm where there is a natural swimming pool and a lot of trails to visit the farm work, the...

Essence had stunning views and incredible food! Breakfast and lunch costs 6 bucks, and dinner is 12- great deal for the quality of food! Casada for lunch ( standard costa rican food) and themed for dinner ( spanish, mexican, etc etc). The hostel is very difficult to get to from La Fortuna. Any tour that we scheduled charged an extra...

A local person is San Jose recommended this place and it was totally worth it. We booked a large tree top tent that accommodated 5 adults. The bathrooms were close by. The were large organic farms and natural pools all around the property. The even do cooking lessons here every evening, a different cuisine every night. All meals served here...

A friend of ours told us to visit this little gem. It's a fun drive down a dirt road to get there and the view is phenomenal. I loved our tent which was on a bamboo structure with a perfect little balcony that looked out into the jungle. It was great for reading in the hot afternoons. The hostel serves...

We stayed in a standard tent for 3 nights. I did not realize that there were shared bathrooms (I realize it was silly given we were staying in a tent, but it had beds so I thought there could also be bathrooms) and were slightly concerned at first but never experienced a wait and they were always very clean so...

During 2 days here my wife and I felt the tension of city living (Boston MA is home) was completely unwound. We stayed in a Superior Terrace Tent. We enjoyed the sounds and air of the forest at night whilst on a real bed with wardrobe etc. - best of both worlds. We did yoga as a family looking at...

Great place with organic farm, a restaurant, hot tub, sitting area to have a nice cup of hot tea from getting your fresh herb off the plant. Hiking trail and they made you feel like you were at home. The restaurant serves dinner and the menu changes, homemade food, beer and wine available. Breakfast was available as well and we...

Rooms were very clean and all staff spoke English very well. The only compliant I have is that the walls are VERY thin, so I was woken up multiple times by someone coughing through the night. Would have been nice to know this before hand. So, ask for a room that doesn't connect to other rooms. Overall though, good place...

Beautiful place. Just wow. As a nature lover it was an incredible stay. We slept in our hammocks under the stars. Waking up to the sound of birds singing. Friendly staff. Cheap breakfast to start the day with. Great hiking trails close by, a must!!
