I went to Villas Mastatal on a solo trip to Costa Rica in January 2015 and had an incredible time. Javier and Raquel were excellent hosts, the food was great, and facilities were very nice, considering how remote it is. It's the perfect location to relax and feel connected with nature, and go on some adventurous hikes in La Cangreja...

We stayed several days at villas mastatal and it was by far the best organic farm we found in Costa Rica. After visiting several places this is the most authentic and real place where you can directly connect with permaculture and meet amazing people sharing the same love for farming and travelling. We loved sharing time with Javier that has...

I came to Costa Rica solo in January 2016 with plans to stay for a short time at Villas Mastatal, but my plans quickly changed as the family, land and community embraced me with open arms. The accommodations are remarkable, you are comfortable yet surrounded by open air and your body awakes to the first light of dawn and rests...

I volunteered at Villas Mastatal for a little bit over a month, and I can certainly say that I learned more here during my stay than a year at school. I arrived in the heart of rainy season, so it rained every day at some point, but you learn to love it because it's what makes this place so alive....

I traveled to Costa Rica solo & volunteered at Villas Mastatal in the summer of 2014 & was literally living my dream. It was such an amazing experience living completely outdoors, one that I will never forget. Experiencing the true Costa Rican culture was really incredible. The yoga decks are to die for, there are so many beautiful waterfalls that...

If volunteered at Villas Mastatal doing various things on the farm and within the Mastatal Community for a week through a university organization, and had such a great experience. The family was wonderful. Javier helps educate you on just about everything about farming (which I came into know almost nothing about), his wife Raquel is an amazing cook, and their...

Our experience at Villasmastatal was one we will never forget! We will remember it not only because of the amazing sense of pura vida the place gives visitors, not only because of the tasty healthy food, not only for the endless trails and tropical rivers around the area, but also because of the amazing hospitality of Javier, Raquel, and Adresito!...

Anyone who wants to see the beauty and magic of Costa Rica's landscapes and wildlife should consider a stay at this agro-tourism educational lodge. I spent nearly two and a half months volunteering at Villas Mastatal. As I started my sola journey through Central America, I sought out opportunities to learn more about farming as I would like to have a small farm of my own some day. At Villas, there is an opportunity to learn something new about agriculture as often as you...
