A joy to stay at. The old fashioned hotel, staffed almost exclusively by women, was spotless, and very comfortable. Relaxing after a day's walking in the bar or on the terrace with a beer or gin and tonic set the tone for an evening of good food and drink. The restaurant is very good indeed, but be warned, the portions are very generous, and combined with the later eating hours of Spain, I would advise against planning an early night. They serve a very good (and big) buffet breakfast in the dining room, but also a simple breakfast of orange juice, coffee, toast and jam in the bar, to set you you for a day in the glorious mountains in which the hotel is situated.

The hotel is reminiscent of a Tyrolean hotel and gets a lot of repeat clients and we can see why having stayed for four nights. The hospitality was amazing throughout our stay. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was comfortable (we slept really well) and had a wonderful view of the mountains from the bathroom window as well as the balcony. The hotel was spotlessly clean. The food was regional and well cooked/presented. Portions are big! The restaurant staff were very happy to chat with guests in English and have fun. The breakfast spread was enormous and delicious - so much choice. Breakfast was included in our stay and we paid for our evening meal (28 euros a head) with a good selection so thought it excellent value. A la carte is also available.
The location is brilliant for the Funte De cable car, walking, hiking and the town of Potes is only 8km away and worth a visit. The pool looked really nice too but we didnā€™t try it. We would definitely return to this hotel if we go to Northern Spain again.

This hotel came highly recommended by Spanish friends who've stayed here regularly through the years. It was a delightful, one-night stay and we plan on returning. It's a lovely mountain inn - we stayed in the equally lovely annex across the street. The rooms were spacious and decorated in a mountain lodge style. We loved it. The staff was friendly and helpful. We LOVED their two St. Bernards that grace the hotel lobby and gardens. They sleep the day away, occasionally lifting their head to say hello or beg a belly rub from a guest. The breakfast and dinner were excellent.

This hotel is unique as it scores very highly on many levels. The setting, surrounding areas and itā€™s own gardens are stunning. The building itself, outside and interior, are beautiful; authentic Spanish and attention to detail is wonderful. The rooms themselves, although not large, are beautifully appointed and spotlessly clean. The staff are friendly, helpful and efficient: they will help with food choices, local walks and make you feel very welcome. Last, and certainly not least, the food is superb; lots of choice, plentiful, delicious and again authentic Spanish. And the drinks are very reasonable. I wish we could go back!

Motorcyclists beware.... all change at the Del Oso Hotel.
I have stayed at the hotel many times and sent lots of groups over the years. I loved the hotel and even if not staying would call in for drinks and food when in the area.
I have on a number of occasions written articles about the hotel for motorcycle publications.
imagine my surprise and upset when calling in to book a table for an evening meal and to show four friends the hotel for them to book for a visit to be met by a very unfriendly member of staff who immediately informed me if I didn't have a room number I wouldn't be served. I attempted to explain our reason for calling in and my previous relations with the hotel but without result. my order for coffees was refused. I returned to my seated friends shocked and embarrassed having told them what a lovely establishment it was. I observed that the car park was empty (only four cars) so it was not busy. Another member of staff appeared and said politics had changed!!!!
we could have a coffee but no longer would service be offered if you were not resident.
I emailed the hotel on two occasions but without reply.
Perhaps the Del Oso has now become so popular that they do not need our business and the business I generate annually and not just for motorcyclists.
Perhaps if you are passing or planning a visit you will consider other hotels.
I am saddened after so many years and so many happy occasions to have had this experience.

What can I say, quite simply the best hotel ive stayed in as a family.

Fantastic hotel grounds, rooms, food and facilities.

Friendly staff suffering my poor Spanish.

A true home away from home.

My family didn't want to leave and my daughters were upset. It very much exceeded expectations. You can tell it's run by people that really care about visitors.

Beautiful hotel located about 15 minutes from Potes. Perhaps the best the service, very attentive and affectionate, as well as the restaurant, very welcoming, quality products and taste of very good dishes. They give you the option to have either a buffet breakfast (recommended) or a simpler and cheaper breakfast in their bar (the latter only available for guests staying). From the remarkable breakfast buffet a yogurt sponge cake that looked homemade, as an improveable aspect the fact of not having the traditional scrambled eggs. The simple rooms, a little old-fashioned but sufficient (a detail to give you complimentary slippers). Perhaps as a negative aspect of these eras they do not have air conditioning which by the fact of being where the hotel is may not be necessary (if it is hot, the windows open and sure enough). As for the parking has two free options, one past a little bridge and better option because it is the closest to the hotel or in a stone clearing right next door (for a large van, maybe just the entrance). Hotel as I say, with its stuff, beautiful and probably the best many kilometers around.

I really wanted to stay here after reading a 'secret review' posted while checking out Fuente De. But sadly rooms were available only for 1 night. And our room was across the road in the annexe building.
Beautiful large room and huge bathroom.
We booked a table for our dinner. We were celebrating our 26th anniversary and when I mentioned this to the staff, they gave us a beautiful 'oso' gift and placed a (free) dessert with candle on top. So sweet.
This was so unexpected and made us so happy.
The ladies who man the room are experts at hospitality and very able.
I saw just one woman the next morning, manning the full breakfast room.
Food is exceptional. (We had lunch, dinner & breakfast)
I would love to go back here.....but it is so far from India...

PS: Do not leave the bathroom window open in the annexe. Many small insects (like those found in farmland) die a miserable death in the marbled and glassed interiors.
Ask for a room in the main building facing the swimming pool. It is supposed to have the best view.

SPECTACULAR, the place is wonderful, all luxury and attention to detail. The dining room is very cozy, and what can we say about the impressively good lebaniego stew. The variety of breads they give you to choose from are very good, the squid tails, the croquettes, in short, everything is very good. Super recommended so recommendable that you are not walking out the door when you already want to return. and all at very affordable prices for the place it is. Asking about Ana is wonderful.

I never really get star ratings for hotels. This place is only 3 star and I donā€™t know why. The views of the mountains are awe-inspiring. The hotel has a pool, tennis courts, basketball and table tennis. The restaurant food is good and the service is first class. rooms are great - cool, clean and comfortable. I suppose It has a bit of a 70s church vibe about it. But thatā€™s fine. I overheard another guest talking about similarities with the Shining. Heā€™s right - the location does feel a little like the location of the Overlook Hotel, and the interior of Del Oso is a bit like the hotel (stone with timber frame throughout) where Jack went a bit haywire. But that just make it more interesting. Tony agrees with me. So does Mrs Torrence. Now Iā€™m off for a game of tennis because all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

From the Hotel del Oso, ideally with a good weather forecast, have an early breakfast and drive down to Potes then up and over the Santa Gloria Pass stopping to see 'the bear' and you can drive up to it. You then look across and with binoculars see the top station of the cable car and del Oso hidden below. Drive on into Cares and with comfortable boots you can walk the Cares Gorge. We only do this end half and picnic and back to Cares for the drive back. But you can continue driving west and come down to Cangas de Onis giving you a breathtaking second gorge but if too long a day - enjoy the Parador! Or use this as your next stop if touring.

Hola! Yo estuve alojada en el hotel y hacƭa frƭo y no vi a nadie baƱƔndose, pero es un hotel que da preferencia en todo momento al huƩsped en todos los servicios, por lo que creo que no se puede usar la piscina. Saludos
