Casona de Trevino is a grand 18th Century farmhouse set on the hillside above Casgaya on the mountain road from Potes to Fuente De. While there are great hotels in Casgaya itself, this is an amazing taste of rural life, still run by the extended family that seems to have been farming there forever.
The house is extremely charming and the family very welcoming (although like most people in this area not speaking a word of English).
If you want to feel part of this world, and not just a tourist staying at anonymous hotel, take a trip up from the valley bottom!
We were travelling on a walking holiday, with no Spanish.

The property is at the end of a very steep and narrow lane with no passing places, about half a mile from the main road. In a quiet location with wonderful mountain-views (but none from the bedrooms), this old rustic farmhouse has ancient furniture and family memorabilia, some centuries old.
Both guest bedrooms open directly off the dining room so dining in silence or in whispers was required. Dinner was "country style" and both savoury courses came with chips but there was an excellent breakfast.

We stayed here for 5 nights, and really enjoyed the silent "old" farmhouse, the very comfortable beds (with beautiful embroidered sheets), and therefore the very restful nights.
We were made very welcome by the owner and her sister
A very convenient place to stay whilst trekking in the Picos de Europa, and also near to Potes for a little urban visit.
The only thing is that due to the fact that this is an old farmhouse, the dining room is quite dark (and can get chilly when not very warm outside, even though the radiators were turned on for our sake, with an electric one in our room which was nice), so it is nice to get out after breakfast.
And talking of breakfast, it was nice, with fresh eggs, bread, pancakes, fruit, yoghourt & coffee (or tea), but we would have liked to have a bit more variety as we received the same thing for the 5 mornings of our stay.
We also had two simple but nice meals here in the evening.

Room Tip: We had a corner room with windows on both sides with a great view

The owners couldn't be more welcoming. Amazing rural house. Warm and cosy even with -2 C outside. Wifi (although recommend putting phone away). Absolute peace and quiet in rural setting. We slept like babies. It's for people who want to escape the world and enjoy authentic rural Spain. Loved it all.
