They provided treats, dog bowls and a mat for the dog to sleep on. I am not sure if there are limited rooms for dogs as they require you to put the dog in the bathroom or the balcony if he is left on his own. However we had a nice spacious room (in the annex) with a large, spectacular glassed in balcony which had great views.
They were very switched on with their covid measures, lots of sanitizer and social distancing in the bar and restaurant.
Like most other Paradors the Wifi was poor. Intermittent and sometimes non-existent.
What makes this particular Parador very good is the location. It is spectacular, make sure you get up early and watch the sun shine onto the mountains as it rises. You are surrounded by the jagged peaks of the Picos.
From the pictures the hotel looked a little utilitarian and basic, but in reality this was not the case. In real life it looks fine and the interior furnishing is beautiful, with lovely woodwork, paintings and flooring throughout.
The common areas are spacious and well appointed. Access to the guest rooms is via carpeted corridors and the rooms themselves are good in size, with adequate bathrooms. The bed was very comfortable and there was plenty of storage.
The restaurant is quite spacious and the service was very efficient. We stayed at three different Paradores on consecutive nights. The menus were similar in all three, but the quality of the food was excellent and given the surroundings, quite reasonably priced.
Throughout the hotel, the staff were all polite, cheerful and very helpful.
Of course the Parador at Fuente De’s chief asset is its absolutely stunning position. In the heart of the Picos de Europa, it is a great base for exploring the area and additionally is a five minute walk from the cable car that takes you up to an elevation of 1823 metres in just a few minutes. From the top you can wander around taking in the sensational views. If the weather is clear this is a must do experience.
I would whole-heartedly recommend staying at the Parador Fuente De. It is a lovely hotel in an incredible location. I would however add a couple of caveats. First, our visit was mid-September. The resort was very quiet and although it was a beautiful day, when I went up in the cable car at 2.00 pm, there were only three other people in the cab. I suspect that in July or August the whole place would be heaving with people, with very long waits for the cable car. Incidentally the hotel does have its own car park, which might be a real bonus on a busy day. Second, without good, clear weather the whole experience might be rather disappointing. There is little else to do up there and the nearest town Potes is about thirty minutes away by car. So my advice would be to try to go slightly out of season and check the weather forecast before making a booking.
The location is indeed fantastic, as many reviewers agree. We also loved the decor, which is rustic and fits the mountain location perfectly. Our room was comfortable and very clean. The hotel had given consideration to the environment in its selection and presentation of toiletries, which we really appreciate.
The restaurant was great, with a nice selection of wines and good food including vegetarian options. The buffet breakfast was excellent with a good variety to choose from and the best Covid controls i have seen in any restaurant anywhere.
The staff here were really friendly and a pleasure to meet.
Honestly for quality of service, food and atmosphere this place is more than a three star.
We booked a Standard Double Room which faces the mountains, and it was fabulous! Very specious and clean. For the price that we had paid, we had expected better service from the staff of a hotel of this standard. They didn't bother go above and beyond for their guests. For example, when we desperately needed a taxi, they simply gave us a phone number to call ourselves. At many other hotels, the Front Desk staff will be willingly do these things for us, given that we are non-Spanish speakers, and it is not easy for us to communicate with the local drivers. At other times, their demeanour was just nonchalant when we asked them questions/seek assistance.
Other than this, we had really enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The location was perfect (near the cable car station and surrounded by majestic mountains). The room was spacious and clean, with a wonderful covered balcony where we can sit and enjoy the stunning view.
The restaurant offers excellent food with a menu which allows you to have different meals for at least 3 nights, and breakfast was sufficient (we were allowed to order hot food from a side menu in addition to what was being offered on the buffet table). However, you have to book your slot for breakfast, and often, you don't get your desired time if you are late in doing that.
Like I have said - overall, we enjoyed our stay here. The location is the hotel's greatest selling point, but the Front Desk really need training in good customer service.
Pets are very well cared for with pillows, food bowls and treats in the room.
The concept of charging is unclear, according to the invoice, the accommodation service was charged an amount of 79.36 euros and breakfast at 31.10 when we were not given the option to reserve only the accommodation in the reservation made by phone to reduce costs.
The restaurant menu displayed at the entrance to the restaurant area allows you to get an idea of what dinner will cost you with the prices of each dish, but the cost of the extras: bread, drinks and natural fruit dessert, It raises the price almost doubling it, it seemed like an exaggeration to me.
The fireplace corner is very nice.
So a five-star stay at a gold price, beyond our expectations.
