Stayed here at the end of February for just one night. We arrived early afternoon and were greeted with a luke warm welcome then shown to our room, which was a good size with a spacious very clean en-suite. The lock was coming off the bedroom door, which was a little disconcerting, and whilst it was a king-size mattress the... More

Old 1500 century hotel with lots of character. Coffee shop, meals in bar or restaurant. Good breakfast. Large beds. Cute little location, 20 minute walk from Castle Cary rail station. Would visit again.

We stayed at the george on a saturday night night before valentines. The food and drink was excellent. I can recommend that part of the visit, but it goes a little down hill from there. The room decor was very drab and basic. Creaking floors was no suprise for an old inn but bathroom was pathetic, cracked and loose tiles... More

Had lunch there for the first time with my elderly mother & sister. Although the restaurant room looked inviting, we tried for the bar, as that was dog-friendly and had a lovely great fire going in the old stone fireplace, and also looked very comfortable. I had the fish platter (£9.95) which was excellent. A good variety of fish served... More

The George is a nice pub in the town centre, the bar has a open fire, nice open bar with lots of seating, separate dining area if needed. I had the roast lamb, nice meal that came with 4 veg and roast potatoes, great presentation, the veg, mint sauce and gravy came on a granite platter, so nice to see... More

Fantastic log fire blazing in the front bar but it did make the room really smoky. Very friendly staff, had great sandwiches with home made bread and cold roast beef was really tasty. Very good value will definately go back when in Somerset again. Toilets were bit dated but very very clean.

After a lovely evening at Longleat's festival of light, stopped at The George for a meal. We were presented with what the waitress informed us was a new menu plus a few specials on the board. My daughter and her boyfriend ordered the chilli con carne, myself a butter bean and leek gratin and my mother a chicken with pepper... More

Four of us made an unscheduled stop for lunch only. The bar area is interesting and like a real old fashioned pub, with a roaring log fire, which we sat next to. The food was pretty good, they have a good range of interesting beers & ciders and the staff were very pleasant and efficient. Perhaps not quite 4 our... More

Stayed for one night on business. Not really sure who was running this place ? It is an old building with lots of character and interesting furniture pieces. The room I stayed in could do with a deep clean to be honest and a refurb of the bathroom. The hot water in the morning wasn't. We ate in the restaurant... More

Bearing in mind we hadn't booked and were non resident, Sunday lunch was served efficiently, well presented roast lamb and separate veggie was fine. Our own Baby food was microwaved appropriately and baby seat also on hand. Very busy, clearly popular, Greene KIng Bitter was fresh. Surroundings as you would expect with an old thatched roof pub - a series... More
