This is a small hotel a few meters into a alley from the main road. The staff are nice and helpful and the rooms were clean. However, the rooms are very small and there was just enough to open our carry-on bags (if you are traveling with big luggage, i would not recommend this hotel). The bathroom was tiny too...

Although the Oak Hotel is not a business hotel and rather a hostel than a hotel, it's definitively a very good choice for a stay in Tokyo. The location is perfect as the Ueno station is only 800 meters away. (If you come from the Ueno station you can find the hotel on the left side.) Ueno is part of...

This hotel is very conveniently situated near Ueno station and is only a 10 minute walk from Keisei Ueno Skyliner station (from Narita airport) and Ueno railway station. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, with excellent English, for those like me who are not fortunate enough to speak Japanese. There are numerous mini marts and restaurants around. The area...

This was the first stop on our Japan tour. The hotel is about a 10 min walk from Ueno station and there are lots of mini marts, sushi bars and noodle shops along the way which was handy. The rooms are very small and the decor very 80s and brown and the bathtub is absolutely tiny. It is however, very...

Have been to Japan several times we never ever would imagine that there exist such small rooms. Booked a japanese style room for two persons we ended up in a hole that was just about 8 squaremeters (including the toilet cell!) small. You basically have to live out of the bag because the is no closet in the room. The...

Oak hotel is a hidden gem. Couldn't find it in any guide or book but still is a wonderful small business hotel. Stayed in the 4F, the room was small as expected with a double bed and a little bathroom. Had no view either but didn't care as I spent minimum time in the room and the bed was really...

The Oak Hotel is really good value for money. No, it's not super-luxurious, but it's comfortable and very clean. It's half a block from a local subway line and about a 10 minute walk from the busy Ueno subway and JR station - and if you walk a little further, you can catch the non-stop Skyliner to Narita. The rooms...

I came to this hotel before some years and for my trip in this year, it was clear to choose Oak Hotel again. With any problems (where to go, which train to choose, need of additional blankets in the room (...) the staff is really helpful and very good in English! Parties within the hotel makes a familiar atmosphere. The...

Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighbourhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.
