The rooms are small but well organized and spotlessly clean. It’s walking distance easily to Senso –ji Temple and the Tawaramachi subway station. Eat delicious Sushi at Sushizanmai restaurant outside Tsukiji market.

Traveled with a group for business for a few nights. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean and well maintained. Quality product in the bath. Not sure about the pillow which seemed to be half-filled with beads? The biggest struggle I had was in the common areas of the hotel (Lobby and hallways) which wreaked of stale...

The location of this property is awesome, beside a 7/11 and close to Starbucks, but more importantly close to an awesome Shrine, and market in the daytime, and the famous Sky Tree! Also the rooms are comfortable, great bedding, and awesome product in the bathroom. Thank you for making my stay very easy and awesome. They also hold your bags...

I stayed at the Sunroute Asakusa for a few nights in May. This hotel has good location with a nearby metro station and a 7eleven convenient store. It is within 30min subway ride of most Tokyo attractions. One of Tokyo’s famous temple is within 5min walk as well. Rooms are small but clean and with all the necessary amenities (no...

This hotel served as the "home base" for our stays in Tokyo as well as the tour we did in Japan. It was a great location for this purpose because it was right by the Tokyo metro station Tawaramichi. You could easily connect to the JR trains at Ueno by taking the Ginza line to get to the airport, many...

Stayed here for our first night in Tokyo. It's a pretty average Japanese business hotel - matchbox sized rooms, excellent staff and service, adequate breakfast in the next door restaurant Jonathan's. The hotel has wifi but only in the lobby, which is small. The main benefit is the location. Asakusa is a lovely district and much less frenetic than other...

Room was the size you expect from a Japanese hotel – bigger than you fear, but not what you might hope for. The hotel breakfast was well priced and the western breakfast was quite acceptable (apart from the coffee of course – this is Japan). On the other hand the service & staff were wonderful – again, this is Japan....

Helpful staff who spoke some English on check-in, (typically) small but clean and well air-conditioned room. Restaurant very average - better options in the surrounding neighbourhood. Very well placed to explore Asakusa, Senso-Ji temple, and good links to public transport.

Me and my friend were staying in Asakusa Sunroute Hotel for 1 week in February 2010. Not typically for Japanese style, the room was quite spacious - there was enough space for two persons and no crushes happened. WC (which is usually very important for girls) was nice and CLEAN. The staff was very friendly and helpful...helpful for those who...

Stayed four nights, room is a bit old and my room smells damp, it's clean though. Walking distance to temple, nakamise Dori & train station, excellent base for nikko daytrip and start point for cruise along the river. Ps. Beds are firm (like everywhere in japan) and they want prepayment upon check in ( which we also experienced at other...

Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighbourhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.
