This is a place where everything falls into place from the moment you arrive until check-out. I have been there 4 times already and would aleays choose it over any "regular" Hotel in Tokyo. If you want to be in the hussle of the city this would not be the right place, but if you want to experience Japan and...

The ryokan is located in a really quaint area of Tokyo, but it is also in a very convenient location (about 11 minutes walking from JR Nippori station). Small local shops line the streets evoking a by-gone Tokyo. The ryokan was clean and fit 4 of us nicely in a traditional tatami room. The bathrooms are from the early 2000's,...

I stayed at the Annex Katsutaro in both 2014 and 2015, and would happily return again. It is a basic, but well-run modern ryokan just down the road from the main market street in Yanaka. The Sendai metro station is five minutes walk away and probably the easiest way in to town.

The staff are very friendly. The rooms are smallish, but not as small as we were expecting. The traditional beds are warm enough in winter, and the rooms all have their own A/C. The shower water pressure is excellent. The location is excellent. It's a quiet neighbourhood, but the hotel is very close to a great little market street called...

My husband and I stayed here for 1 night during our honeymoon to Japan and we had a great stay at the Annex Katsutaro Ryokan. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming; they helped us navigate the area as well and had English maps on hand for just that occasion. The staff that we spoke to spoke very good English....

This great Hotel, with an amazing Japanese feel, which is great for the first time visitor, or regular to Japan. Situated in a superb location in Tokyo, with many old buildings and temples. The atmosphere is truly wonderful, a nearby station so you can get to anywhere in Tokyo or even Japan (bullet train) The Ryokan is clean modern and...

Have stayed in this hotel on 3 separate occasions. Interesting neighbourhood and close to the Yamanote line. Great value and lovely staff. I always book this first when planning holidays as staying in Yanaka has always been one of the highlights of my trips.

Lovely location, quiet neighbourood. Metro and Yamanote lines very close. Rooms are typically japanese, but, like it is been said by others, it is not really a ryokan... Staff very friendly. If I travel again in Tokyo, I would go back there.

It isn't easy to find a good hostel in Tokyo. This one is not what you may call a ryokan, it's rather a pension, yet it is very pleasant. The staff is very kind and the lady speaks perfectly english. The location is a little bit far from the sites of interest, but it is very close to 2 subway...

Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighbourhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.
