I arrived around noon and the check-in time was 2pm. Hotel would not budge and I ended up wondering (half awake) into the Starbucks at JR station. On a side note, that Starbucks ha e no free wifi. My room was clean, very very tiny, but thoughtful amenities from breathing strips for those who snore, to fabric deodorizer, to toiletries....

I've been this hotel for 4 nights with my 2 kids during cherry blossom season. They didn't charge any extra cost for my children (Both Stay and Breakfast). Breakfast is free and very good taste. Front desk officer are kind and willing to help.

The Coco Grand Ueno was a great spot for our one night in Tokyo. Easy to get to Ueno station from the Narita express, and only 5min walk from the station, which also meant easy to get back the next morning to train to Kanazawa. The people at reception were friendly, and in fact gave us a superb tip to...

A fantastic hotel right near Ueno Park (lake side) and near subways and train stations. The hotel staff were extremely helpful in organising my bus ticket to the Mt Fuji area - something that is not easy to do online when you can't read Japanese. The rooms are small, as is the case in most Japanese hotels, but comfortable. Squeezing...

This hotel is quite small, however it is located close to Ueno Railway station which has a direct link to Narita Airport. This makes the Coc Grand perfect for someone looking to find an easy to reach hotel in the guts of Tokyo for a stopover visit. The staff are very friendly and efficient. Everyone on the front desk I...

My only nitpick was the room size (only one person can be in the walkway at any given time). This wasn't that big of a deal for me but I know if my wife were writing this she'd put it. Best part of the hotel is the public bath. Every morning I got up and headed down (even though the...

LOVED the view of the lily lake... and the spa was a welcome addition after staying in hostels for many days... this was a final night treat. The massage chair was one of the most advanced I've ever seen. Staff lovely and the general atmosphere was mellow and cool ( like a lot of Japan! ). The room was very...

We enjoyed a view from hotel room to UENO park. rooms are very clean. Bathroom is a little small but public bath is nice. Breakfast was very good. bed was nice and firm. Location is perfect. Walking distance to attraction in UENO, close to subway station and very quiet location.

Overall Coco Grand Ueno was wonderful. Customer service exceptional. Small boutique type hotel. Great views of the park. Unfortunately we were initially given a smoking room which smelt so much I couldn't stay in there for more that five minutes. We were moved four times over our 5 night stay because of this, which was disappointing. However with this, we...

Honestly, the 'wonderful' comments here prompted me to book this hotel. Afterall, the location was unbeatable. I ended up staying 2nights but i did not really had a 'wonderful' comment to write here nevertheless. Only 200m to the Keisei Ueno station which can whisk you off and fro Narita in just 40min-that was the highlight of my stay. Room was...

Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighbourhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.
