I have nothing against the Toyoko Inn chain, and stayed in them almost exclusively during my time in Japan. It's just that this one had the smallest room I've ever stayed in. Normally I can leave my luggage not, but not this time - I had to slide it under the bed simply to get from the bed to the...

I have a membership with Toyoko Inn and have frequented their chain of hotels nearly every time I have come back as a tourist. This is my first stay at the Uguisudani branch. Firstly, I must admit I have sort of braced myself by reading other reviews prior to coming. Still, when I turned up, I was surprised how inefficient...

Very small rooms, however they were clean and cheap. The smallness of the rooms is mostly due to it being situated in the cramped city of Tokyo where buildings can be thin, but long. There were a couple of loud guests in other rooms, but otherwise okay. The staff were very nice and helpful.

It's just okay, small room and small bed. But the hospitality is is great. This is OK if you only use this hotel just to spend the night and take a shower. Nothing fancy just efficient, worth the price. But I like the breakfast, they serve traditional Japanese meal..

Nothing special, no local color or anything, but if you need a cheap hotel for the night this should do it. It's close to the Yamanote line so convenient for anywhere else you want to go in Tokyo. The area has a surprising number of love hotels, even for Tokyo, but this wasn't one, and yes, porn movies in the...

I have been to many Toyoko Inn in my life but in this one staff is complaicent and in the room you find a brochure of porn VOD with explicit pics. Got the brochure and went to the reception: they told me "Sir, this is normal in Japan" and I replied "this is a business hotel, not a love hotel...

As mentioned, the room is slightly smaller than other Toyoko Inns and it was difficult to get used to the desk chair. I figured out that you have to slide it to the far right and all the way back to the bed and then slip in sideways and then it is fine. I'm a little big (US, 5'11", 195#)...

Toyoko Inn is a budget business chain. You get a clean, small, efficient room for a modest price. It is usually an acceptable formula for me. I stayed at three different Toyoko Inns during my 9 day trip to Japan. This particular Toyoko Inn was a bit below the usual standard. The room was still clean, and had all the...

Uguisudani is 1 station from Ueno terminus, and the hotel is a 5 minutes walk from the station. It is the usual Toyoko Inn with the same unexciting but comfortable enough accommodation for a lone traveller. Perhaps it is not the best hotel around, and the rooms are small even for a Toyoko Inn, but it was kept clean as...

Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighbourhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.
