We spent 2 nights here in a tatami room. It's close to the very busy Nakamise-dori but it gets very quiet at night, which usually is when we get back anyway so I don't know if noise level is manageable during daytime. Our room was pretty spacious, compared to typical hotel rooms in Tokyo, maybe because it can take up... More

This is a ryokan, Japanese style inn, where you sleep on the floor. It is a small room, but if you are only here to sleep, it is adequate. What bothered me the most was that we were on the 4th floor (Room 403) next to a "smoking room". We were given a "non-smoking room" but you could still smell... More

The property is located just steps from the hustle and bustle of the Sensoji temple area in Asakusa. Despite that, it was relatively quiet in my room on the 4th floor. The rooms and bathroom are a tad small, but that is not unexpected in Japan. There is a vending machine, along with free coffee and tea in the lobby.... More

We booked Mikawaya Hotel for a tradition Ryokan experience. While you get to sleep on the ground, and that was part of experience, the room was quite small. There is a little table where I imagine you would eat, or have tea or something, but it was so small you could not use it. Nor do you get the hospitality... More

The location near Asakusa is great but the rooms are pretty cramped, and for the money, I felt the value was just OK. One word of advice: there is a smoking room on the 4th floor (maybe on other floors too, not sure). We had the room right next to it and even though we had a Non-smoking room, we... More

Recently stayed for 3 nights. I was expecting a much more smaller room given the room size shown on Agoda but maybe because the room has minimal and compact furniture it seemed much more spacious. It is very clean and has big bottles of toiletries rather than those tiny packages. Staff is very friendly, speak English. I had a problem... More

Ryokan Asakusa Mikayawa is a good place to be your first traditional Japanese accommodation, the location is strategically located near the perennially tourists-packed Nakamise-dori & Senso-Ji! It's very easy to reach here from subway station, which is just 5 minute walk away, countless restaurants and souvenir shops in proximity, don't forget to try the famous tempura restaurant nearby. Also...with subway... More

The guest house is located right in the atmospheric temple and shopping district of Asakusa. It's easy to find and about 200m from the train station. Shopping and cultural attractions start right away when you leave the comfortable inn. There tourist centre (with computers and Internet for free) is very close, too. Rooms are Japanese or Western style, have baths... More

It has been some time anyone posted on this hotel and it may give the wrong impression it is a lesser among the other two Ryokans beside. This is a fine place with good wifi access, even at the fourth floor. I was fortunate to stay in a japanese styled room and western styled room one night each. I prefer... More

It isn't that easy to find the ryokan when you've never been to Japan before. Print out a map, it will save your life! The hotel lies about 5 minutes from Ginza and Asakusa Line Station "Asakusa" in a little street near to the famous Nakamise. The owner is heartwarming friendly and treated me like I'm the only guest. Internet... More

Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighbourhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.
