The hotel is very near to Ueno train station so it is very convenient to move around. If you do not get your directions right, the hotel may be difficult to find. It offers single rooms and due to the small building, there are very limited rooms available. It is in Ameyeko area which is like Chinatown, there are many... More

Very good price with good location, only a few mins walk from MTR station. Located in the middle of walking street, which means lots of shops and restaurant. Clean room and nice bed. Polite staff. You can also collect skincare product at the reception.

pros: quite cheap. onsen is really great after all the walking. less than 5 mins walk to the ueno station (but I got lost during my first day). surrounded by shops, eateries (a lot of yakitori and other grilling resturants), shopping centres, ueno park (which was in full sakura bloom during my stay). no smoking smell. I find the room... More

Second time I stay here. Location is good, but a bit hrd to find if you are first timer. The best thing about this hotel is the public bath they have in the main building. on the first floor. 5 minutes walk from Ueno station, so not a bad location. Rooms are small, but that is what you pay for...... More

I like this hotel. It is well-furnished, reasonably priced with a heater/aircon to suit the different seasons. I also like the location. It is located within the heart of Ueno where the food and commercial buzz but situated on the quieter side of the row of shop houses so you can escape the noise and human traffic. It is also walking... I travelled solo in April 2013 and I enjoyed my stay at Hotel Marutani Annex for the 2 short nights I was there. PROS - Location good. Just a few minutes walk from JR Ueno Station (central exit), nestled inside the small street on the left of the OIOI building (when you are facing the building). - Has lots of... More

Very good location (few minutes walk from Ueno station), hotel is very quite and personnel is very kind (but they do not speak English at all). In the middle of Ueno market and restaurant you can easily have hundred solution for dinner just outside the door. Not very expansive compared with quality offered.

The rooms of the Hotel Marutani Annex are kind of standard for hotels in this price category - small but adequate. The bathroom is the typical pre-molded plastic deal with the shower and a very small tub. The toilet has the Japanese washlet features. The rooms are air conditioned, which is a must for the humid Japanese summers. I found... More

The Marutani annex is an easy walk from Ueno Station, and its inexpensive rooms are clean, modern, and equipped with all the usual features of a Japanese business hotel. Prices are around 7000 yen/night. The hotel is located in the middle of the dining and shopping district adjacent to Ueno Station. To find the hotel, walk straight out from Ueno... More

Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighbourhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.

“just save the hotel location in your google map and use gps to walk there. Or when walking out of ueno station's central gate, you will see a OIOI shopping centre across the main road. The hotel is further down the street which is right of the OIOI building, or your left as you look across the main road. I had spent around 15 mins walking around and asking the shopkeepers, and wondering why I didn't save the hotel location in google map.”
