We arrived tired and hungry, after a long flight. Got our room - it was so small. I jumped in the tub - and my boyfriend then said: "No way. I want an upgrade" and he called the reception. After half an hour, we arrived at the best room ever... At the 24th floor with a fantastic view. The people...

This hotel was recommended by a Japanese friend for its value, and location. The rooms are small but not bad for Japan. The restaurant serves an excellent buffet breakfast and there are plenty of restaurants near by. The cost is much less than Tokyo in general and the subway is just across the street. There is a bus direct to/from...

My review comes from my point of view so I will introduce a few things I look for in a hotel. Cleanliness, comfort, and practicality. I am not the person who will splurge on a hotel room. I see hotels as a place to sleep, eat a quick breakfast, then leave! They're just a home base. The real attraction is...

The Metropolitan is in a great location, on the subway and the JR line at Ikebukuro. The staff in the hotel were really helpful and lots of them spoke English. The room was small, but totally normal by Japanese standards. There was a free LAN connection so bring a laptop if you can. It makes planning stuff much easier. The...

This hotel is great value for money. The staff were superb, nothing was too much trouble. The hotel is located right next to the Ikebukuro train station so everything is easily accessible. The views from the bar and restaurant are superb i.e. Mt Fuju!

This hotel was spotless, staff speaks English, the internet (LAN) in room was fast and free but the TV was Japanese only. Normally this is not a big requirement! BUT we were there during the earthquake and had no idea what they are saying on TV. Fortunately we had internet access to get our news!! So glad we brought our...

The Metropolitan hotel is not in Tokyo's best location, but nearly on the railway and metro station of Ikebukuro. We stayed in a room which had the standard size (17 sqm), was clean, on a high floor which made Mt. Fuji clearly visible in the morning (we had a good deal). The breakfast was really disappointing and not worth its...

Booked a Superior Double-room for 2 nights requesting non-smoking room as I'm allergic to cigarette smoke. I'd called prior to leaving for Tokyo to ensure the room is non-smoking and also requested room upgrade and late check-out at noon (hotels in japan usually are quite strict with 10am or 11am check-outs). Hotel reservation staff over the phone ensured me the...

Ikebukuro is an area of massive development. Several thousand tenants occupy two giant department stores and shopping malls, where all sorts of shopping and gourmet foods can be enjoyed. The 60-story building at the east entrance of the station, Sunshine City, is a landmark within Ikebukuro and features an aquarium, planetarium, theme park as well as an observation platform. The popular name for the western side of this area is "Otome Road" (Maiden Road) and there are many shops selling products related to anime with a female theme.
