Stayed here in November 2019 (bit late with the review!) So much excellence - from the rooftop onsen, to the thoughtfully decorated rooms, the beautifully served breakfast to the fantastic dinner & excellent service throughout. I very much hope to visit Tokyo and stay here again!
We absolutely loved our stay at the Onsen Ryokan Yeun Shinjuku. We arrived early in the morning and had no problems storing our suitcases whilst we went exploring. The minute we walked in we felt relaxed, leaving all the hustle and bustle behind us, the reception area itself is gloriously zen and the staff were so lovely and helpful. Whilst not exactly in the heart of Shinjuku it was around 15 minute walk to Shinjuku Station, 10 minutes walk to Golden Gai and even less to the funky bars and restaurants around the Suehirotei theatre. We absolutely loved our stay, had our first onsen which was an experience (great view!) and slept like logs after sightseeing all day. A special mention to the pillows, am not sure what you put in them (felt like a layer of massage beads) but am definitely going to try and source one in Sydney. We stayed in a standard twin which was small, but what we expected so no surprises and just meant we had to be organised with a big case each. As an aside I used packing cells for the first time and were literally a Godsend (tops in one, dresses & pants in another, makes living in a small space so easy as you don't have to be rummaging in your case every day). Would definitely recommend this hotel to those wanting an authentic experience, it was nice to really feel like we were in Japan and not just another generic hotel. Tokyo has left us wanting more so am sure we'll be back and would definitely stay here again and recommend to others. Keep up the great work!…
It was a small room, typical of Tokyo, but its modern, clean and zen-like furnishings made for a comfortable stay at Onsen Ryokan Yuen for the 2 nights we were there in our twin room. Bed was comfortable, toilets were fancy (automatic flushing!) and showers in the room were good. It's about a 12 minute walk to the heart of Shinjuku and the train station, but not a big deal at all when you've got a nice hotel to come back to at the end of the night. There's a 7-eleven just across the road outside the hotel and a supermarket just a few minutes down the road. Very convenient! We did not try the breakfast and unfortunately didn't get to try the other amenities of the hotel such as the onsen either. Perhaps for next time!
I tried Onsen Ryokan Yuen Shinjuku for the first time recently, just for an overnight stay, as I am planning to come back with a group of friends in May 2020. Well, we will definitely stay here, what a wonderful hotel. The staff are amazing, so helpful and friendly. The rooms are very well laid out, although I did book a small room as I was on my own. But a very comfortable bed, a modern clean room, and most importantly there is an Onsen bathhouse on the top floor of the building, which even includes an outdoor bath area. Be aware that Tattoos are only allowed in the public bath area if you can cover them with a skin coloured patch (that you can buy at the front desk). I really enjoyed staying here, and am definitely looking forward to coming back.
Even though this hotel is in Shinjuku which is known as a busy area, its location is somehow isolated from the noise around, and the place is very calm and relaxing. I recommend getting a suite room with a city view - the room is ryokan style with huge windows and amazing panorama. Onsen here is just great - we were visiting the hot tubs on a rooftop at the moment of a snowfall. It was unforgettable. The hotel is built with amazing attention to details. Great tea and a teaditional teapot in the room, kimono instead of a standard robe, and even traditional socks and shoes! Loved it. I would recommend to stay here at least for a rooftop onsen experience!
