It's all about the location with Hotel Empire in Shinjuku. It's about a two minute walk from the Yanamote line JR station which includes Harakuju, Shibuya, Ueno and Tokyo as stops and if you're using the JR pass you can easily visit each of these stations for free. As other reviewers have mentioned however that's where the list of positives... More

I guess I had some bad luck on this trip to Japan seeing how many hotels let me down this time. The location of the hotel is A+ being 3 minutes from shin-okubo. That's about it for positive things. The rooms have nothing to do with the pictures, they are small and run down. The beds are terribly uncomfortable to... More

If you are looking to relax and have a wonderful day at your hotel, do not come here. I'm giving this hotel 4 stars not because it's a 4 star hotel but it's perfect for someone like me that is travelling alone. It is only 2 blocks from Shin-okubo station which has trains that can pretty much take you anywhere.... More

Stayed here a few weeks ago and unfortunately of all the hotels and places we stayed on our trip, this was our least favourite. Location is fantastic if you want to get about in the general Shinjuku-Shibuya area, or even any other spot around the Yamanote line (super close to the station and Shinjuku 1 stop away) and is also... On arrival, 5/14 paid for room to accommodate 3 adults, no coffee/tea maker, 1 empty cup left in fridge, had to go to reception for water, bathroom smelled disgusting, staff did not clean, but sprayed air-refresher after complaints, smelled of sewage coming through pipes, eventually after 2 nights they allowed us to change rooms, when I explained that methane gas... This hotel is very close to Shin-Okubo station on the JR Yamanote Line. The instructions of how to get to the hotel from the station are exact and it was very easy to find. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful and could speak some English. Yes, as others have said the rooms are small but so are a lot of... More

Got a quad room last November 2015. Staffs are kind and good in English. Don't have any problem communicating with them. Our room was big enough for 4 and the beds were also comfortable. What really concerns us was the toilet. It's sooo small that you can't barely change shorts or pants inside. the space between the toilet bowl and... More

Staff were friendly however rooms were not clean before our stay and the location of the hotel wasn't great, we felt unsafe walking home at night which affected or trip. We had a great time in Tokyo I just wish we would have felt safe enough with the location to go out at night.

The staff were all very kind, polite and spoke English. Breakfast available for purchase every morning. The lobby also offers boiling water and a microwave for any snacks/microwave meals you may buy. There are many convenience stores nearby. The hotel is located just a two minute walk from the Shin-Okubo station and you can get anywhere from there. The hotel... More

We stayed here for three nights. Although it's not luxurious it's nice, it's clean, cheap and the location is perfect. It is minutes from the train station with lots of restaurants close by. The staff were extremely nice too. The bathrooms are tiny but we seen that as part of the experience. Free wifi also! I have No complaints! If... More

Staying in Shinjuku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shinjuku
Shinjuku is the commuting capital of Tokyo, and contains the busiest train station in the world. To the west, there's an office district with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office at its center. To the east, there’s a district with long-established department stores, cinemas and theaters. Shinjuku Gyoen is a park originally built as the garden for the Imperial Household. It is quite famous as a venue for cherry-blossom viewing in March and April. In Shinjuku, many restaurants operate all night, and districts such as Omoide Yokocho (Memory Lane) or Shinjuku Golden Machi have back streets filled with tiny restaurants and bars that reflect each owner’s unique taste and style.
