The most amazing place for our honeymoon!! The rooms were incredible, and we loved the special little honeymoon touches. Having a massage on our balcony was incredible too! The food and drink was also divine, and we loved the mini bar in our room!! What really made our holiday though was Ralf!! We couldn't have asked for a better guide!!...

Having visited Martaba two years ago - wife plus two teenage boys - we loved the place so much that we kept in contact through Facebook and decided to visit again this year! Marataba is and I'm sure will always be a very special place. What makes it special, in our view, is its location - the scenery which includes...

Just completed a double safari with this lodge and it's sister lodge in Madwike. The main area was absolutely beautiful and the views to the mountains superb. The food and service was also 5 star and the lodge has an air of sophisticated and chilled out luxury. The tents were extremely private and were well spaced and not overlooked, each...

best trip ever 7 days spent celebrating my 60th with husband and two teenage sons ... the lodge is set in the Marataba private concession managed ethically with the interests of the flora and fauna at its centre. So ... you won't see the big 5 'on demand' ... this is very much their place and our brilliant guide Damian...

We loved the trails lodge at Marataba! Beginning with our arrival the staff were very welcoming and friendly. Our guide Adriann and also Kuni were great fun and incredible with information on the surroundings and animals. The food was delicious and the chef Delmain was lovely. Hendrick the butler also made sure our drinks were always topped up while we...

The trails lodge wedged up a mountain with 40km sweeping views over the bush makes this a truly special spot. The guides were exceptional - Gawie and Adriaan had encyclopaedic knowledge - with years of experience behind them. Vehicles are limited so you don't see bus loads of other visitors while looking for game, or any, in fact. Definitely recommend...

Just completed a Fantastic 3 day stay at Marataba Safari Lodge. Completely agree with the majority of the reviewers regarding first rate service, extremely knowledgable Rangers, breathtaking scenery, wonderful food, luxury tents, and attention to detail. Yolandi as GM Ops runs a first rate 5 star establishment with all of the staff expertly trained in hospitality. Adriaan our ranger guide...

We stayed five nights in August with our 8 year old daughter. This was probably one of our all time holiday bests, from the many places we have stayed in Europe, Asia and the US. All the staff knew us by name and made us feel like part of the family. The lodge we had felt secluded and absolutely first...

This is an awesome location. A very large and private game reserve, well stocked with the "big five" and plenty of other interesting species. The lodge is very true comfortable and the views are spectacular. We were guided by Adriaan, the most experienced member of the team, who went above and beyond to make sure that we got close and...

We stayed for two nights and let me be clear, this is a top-nodge lodge and we did have a very pleasant stay, but there difinately are a few less pleasant things to mention about this very high priced accomodation. Tents are huge, nicely furnished, have spacious bathrooms with a tub and have a fully stocked complementary mini bar. Moreover...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Marataba is a malaria-free 23000 hectare private concession within the Big5 Marakele National Park (Limpopo, South Africa). Just four hours from Johannesburg, this is a sanctuary where busy people can find themselves again by connecting with nature. We were rendered breathless by the dramatic Waterberg mountains, vast plains, rich animal diversity and winding rivers cutting through the landscape of the Marakele National Park. Rich red mountain rock meets lush green plains (where you will find yellowwood and cedar trees, 5m high cycads and tree ferns). All of the large game species from elephant and rhino to the big cats, as well as an amazing variety of birds (including the largest colony of endangered Cape vultures in the world, with more than 800 breeding pairs) have settled here. Marataba Safari Lodge is a simple extension of the natural environment beyond its walls - rich, bold, organic and patently magnificent. Whether you prefer your own company or that of new-found friends, there are a number of spots from which to soak up the view - hammock, pool lounger or grassy patch. On the menu for your pleasure is a smorgasbord of activities from which to choose. Whether game drive, walking trail, sunset river excursion on Miss Mara, or a private dinner for two, there is never enough time to exhaust the many ways there are to love this place. ... more   less
