Trip far exceeded our expectations. Inquire about bush walks. Shaun, our field guide, led two extraordinary walks during our stay. Being on the ground close to the animals is a life changing experience!

The tented lodge is totally luxurious. Amazing attention to detail. Personal butler service. Delicious dining. Every game drive there were lots of animals among the most stunning scenery. Unlike most places the big game easily outnumber the safari trucks so you really get to find and spend time alone with the animals. The guides are so knowledgeable, Ryan the guide... More

What a find! We booked this lodge on a whim and were pleasantly surprised. After the rains, we were met at the reserve gate and escorted to the lodge by a 4x4, just to make sure our sedan did not get stuck. The transfer to Trails Camp was hassle free and the guides quickly took our interests into consideration. The... More

Could not recommend safari, South Africa, and Marataba highly enough, particularly to honeymooners looking for a romantic and exciting getaway. We wanted to speak to the following areas particularly: Lodge and food - our room was just... More

Just got back from a safari at this lodge. It was fabulous and would highly recommend. The location was simply stunning, the lodge itself beautiful and our ranger (Matt) was brilliant, so enthusiastic about his job, environment and the animals - that it just made a perfect trip. For those that would choose a lodge at Kruger, I would say... More

The resort is just amazing. No negative points at all: Food was incredible and the staff ppl are so engaged..! The safari experience it self is also remarkable: Very private, unplanned and warming/ technical rangers. In addition, the landscape is beautiful and with a lot of animals playing around. Super recommended

I cannot speak highly enough of the Lodge, scenery and staff at this high end lodge. A la Carte food for all meals, morning and afternoon tea, local alcohol included plus a selection of indoor an outdoor dining overlooking the Iron Red Ranges surrounding the reserve. Our accommodation was very private with views across the plains towards the ranges. If... More

Wow, what an experience! We stayed 3 nights in early October. Well worth the drive from Jo'burg, as soon as we set foot in the lodge we were treated to 5 star + service throughout our stay. Our tent was beautifully furnished in authentic African style, very private- even with outside optional shower which you have to experience. The staff... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Marataba is a malaria-free 23000 hectare private concession within the Big5 Marakele National Park (Limpopo, South Africa). Just four hours from Johannesburg, this is a sanctuary where busy people can find themselves again by connecting with nature. We were rendered breathless by the dramatic Waterberg mountains, vast plains, rich animal diversity and winding rivers cutting through the landscape of the Marakele National Park. Rich red mountain rock meets lush green plains (where you will find yellowwood and cedar trees, 5m high cycads and tree ferns). All of the large game species from elephant and rhino to the big cats, as well as an amazing variety of birds (including the largest colony of endangered Cape vultures in the world, with more than 800 breeding pairs) have settled here. Marataba Safari Lodge is a simple extension of the natural environment beyond its walls - rich, bold, organic and patently magnificent. Whether you prefer your own company or that of new-found friends, there are a number of spots from which to soak up the view - hammock, pool lounger or grassy patch. On the menu for your pleasure is a smorgasbord of activities from which to choose. Whether game drive, walking trail, sunset river excursion on Miss Mara, or a private dinner for two, there is never enough time to exhaust the many ways there are to love this place. ... more   less
