This was our second time staying at Villa Valsi. The owner, Rita, made us feel welcome as if we were returning family. The property is in a beautiful setting, very well maintained, and located a short walk from the charming and historic hill town of Santo Stefano. Our apartment was very comfortable, complete with extra blankets and breakfast snacks, and Rita made sure to follow up with us to make sure that everything else was satisfactory. We look forward to returning.

Stunning and very peaceful place! My dad and I spent a few nights at Villa Valsi, it was a terrific experience under many aspects. Our apartment was cozy, warm, and very comfortable, as well as provided with all the amenities you may need. The place is lovely, surrounded by green areas and just a few minutes from the Medieval town of Santo Stefano di Sessanio, a true little gem in Abruzzo. The owner, Rita, and her husband, Paul, were extremely helpful and generous, also providing us with great information about where to eat and spend the best of our few days in Abruzzo. Villa Valsi is also perfectly located: from here you can easily reach many sites, including L'Aquila, Bominaco, and Rocca Calascio. Thanks so much Rita and Paul for making us feeling like at home! It was a terrific experience and we look forward to coming back!

We're a couple in our fifties and stayed at the villa for a week. Villa Valsi is situated just outside the main village, and as such, has more space and greenery around it than properties in the middle of the village, which we preferred. We had the ground floor apartment with our own patio and it was superb - very comfortable apartment, with a kitchen/living/bedroom area and separate bathroom. The building, like many in the area, is built into the hillside at the back so we had natural rock in the bathroom on one wall! The medieval village is a couple of minutes away and has some good restaurants selling local dishes, and a few gift shops. There are a couple of shops for buying provisions but there is nowhere that sells vegetables or fresh fruit, so you need to bring your own into the village or arrange something with Rita the owner if you are planning any of your own food preparation. Rita - she is a one-off! She'll do whatever she can to make your stay comfortable and rescued us more than once when we ran into troubles - we had a travel problem and also I was ill, and she was just so incredibly supportive. It's worth noting that she doesn't live at the villa and so makes the journey from her home to meet and greet, and help her customers. The village is very isolated and we didn't have a car as we just wanted to explore the area on foot. The surrounding mountains are spectacular and many stunning walks can be had straight from the front door. There's a bus from Rome airport which takes about 2 hours to get to the town of L'Aquila, which is about 30 minutes drive away from the village.

How delighted we were to find this special corner of Abruzzo! We have been visiting Villa Valsi for many summers now, bringing friends with us and making new ones there. Once the family home of Rita’s grandparents, Residence Villa Valsi has been restored with love and cleverly restructured into five apartments. Each apartment has its own character and is furnished with a mix of antiques and contemporary conveniences: well-stocked kitchen areas, comfortable beds with crisp linens, modern bathrooms, everything sparkling clean. Our favorite apartment is Il Soppalco on the top floor, featuring its own terrace on a semi-private garden that is shared with only one other apartment – perfect for multiple families traveling together. And the views! I love to make coffee early in the morning, greeting the day from our kitchen balcony as the sun rises on the hills and medieval village before us. Then off we go: maybe a walk from our front door to the epic Rocca Calascio fortress, or a trek up one of the spectacular Gran Sasso peaks, or a tour to discover more of the “borghi più belli d’Italia” like Santo Stefano. On arrival, Rita greets us with a freshly baked cake, bowl of fruit and fridge stocked with basic breakfast goodies. She has great insider tips on local sights and events, and she’s happy to make restaurant recommendations and reservations. She’s also helpful to those of us struggling to improve our Italian language skills… 😊 We wish we had more stars to award Villa Valsi, which is so much more to us now than just an accommodation. It’s one of our happy places, where we go to truly relax, enjoy life, and treasure the friendship of Rita and her family. A presto!

Our vacation in Abruzzo was one of the most satisfying we had in the past years. Much of its success is due to the lovely Vila Valsi in Santo Stefano di Sessanio and especially to our wonderful hostess, Rita. We recommend it with all our heart.

We've just departed Santo Stefano following our second stay at Villa Valsi. Warm surroundings, authentic but extremely comfortable furnishings, cool mountain air, brilliant sunshine, quiet, relaxing - and located in one of the most beautiful, but lesser known, regions of Italy. Rita Visioni, the owner and host, is one of our favorite people. She has lovingly restored her grandparents' home and has turned it into a home-away-from-home for travelers arriving from all parts of the world: Italians, Americans, Germans, Dutch, and so on. She told us during our stay that the family in the apartment below ours has booked 2-3 weeks every year for the past 6 or 7 years. Their beautiful young daughter was not even born when they first stayed at the Villa Valsi several years ago. Return guests are the best testimony. And we'll be among them. I haven't slept better in weeks!

This is just an amazing place. Located in the Apennese Mountains, the scenery is beautiful. The Villa Valsi is extremely clean and very well maintained. It is an excellent place to stay. I can't wait to go back next year. I would highly recommend the Villa Valsi to anyone traveling the Abruzzo region of Italy.

We loved our time in Santo Stefano di Sessanio. Our host Rita was so accommodating providing information on what to see and do in the area. Her restaurant recommendations were terrific. This home away from home is clean and so well appointed. A perfect place to slow down and really enjoy your vacation. We had started our vacation in Santo Stefano and ended in Rome which is exciting but so fast paced. My only regret is not ending our vacation in Santo Stefano. Next time we will spend a week at the Villa Valsi apartment at the beginning of our vacation, then tour the busier parts of Italy and return to Santo Stefano for more peace and quiet before returning to Canada. Thanks, Rita! We will return!

We were so fortunate to stay at the Villa Valsi a second time. It has all the conveniences of home. The villa is so clean, quiet, and comfortable. It is so hard to leave this beautiful, cozy villa. If you are looking for a completely equipped apartment to stay while in Santo Stefano di Sessanio, the Villa Valsi will not disappoint you. The owner, Rita Visioni, is so helpful and available for anything you might need. Now, to see how and when I can have my third visit !!
