Pench Tree Lodge is conveniently located at about 20 minutes drive from the gate of the National Park. We found the tiger viewing in the park to be superb (although it’s a lottery of course!) and the lodge offered the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy being thoroughly well looked after. The tree house was idyllic- a childhood fantasy but equipped with an excellent bathroom and WiFi! Sitting on the balcony, you can observe your treetop neighbours- grey backed langurs, striped squirrels and a wide variety of birds.
The chef deserves a special mention. Each meal is beautifully prepared and presented, using ingredients from their own organic garden where possible. The dishes seemed to be largely traditional in style but with a modern twist, and were all absolutely delicious. The waiters explain each dish as it is served and the chef visits each table to make sure diners are happy, and to discuss plans for breakfast the following day.
Overall, the ambience is of peace and quiet in a beautiful, unspoiled setting. The spacing of the treehouses and cottages ensures privacy and service is unobtrusive but excellent. The grounds are extensive and we could easily have spent more time exploring- except that we were in the tiger reserve most of the time.
The lodge has a philosophy of sustainability, offering each guest a refillable water bottle, providing excellent toiletries in refillable bottles and using home grown produce.
The lodges employ their own naturalists who are knowledgable and talented wildlife spotters with an obvious passion for the work they do, as well as being great company. They give a presentation about the animals and birds of Pench on arrival and also show a wonderful David Attenborough documentary about the the tigers of Pench.
For anyone who loves wildlife and also enjoys good food and excellent service, Pench Tree Lodge is a perfect choice.

Just got back from a relaxing and refreshing 3 nights stay at Pench Tree Lodge and I had to write about this wonderful place.
The resort is spread over a huge area of untouched nature and the cottages and treehouses blend into the natural surroundings. The lodge takes the eco-friendly tag seriously and you wouldn't see a single element in sight which is not natural or reusable.
All possible creature comforts are made available withing the most natural of environments.
Yes the place serves up remarkable understated luxury, but what really made it so amazing was the warm hospitality. From conversations and safaris with manager Harish and naturalist Gaurav, to the care shown by servers Mukandi, Charandas and others and chef Pankaj's smiling face, these people ensured that we felt right at home. To add to it all the hone like fresh and tasty food, elevated by use of ingredients and local recipes ensure a few pounds were gained.
Of course, Pench as a jungle has it's own delights. We had great sightings on all our safaris which was the cherry on the cake. Can't wait to get back to Tree lodge or maybe other Pugdundee properties.
P.S. Thanks a lot for making our anniversary dinner so special.

We stayed for a couple of nights at the Pench Tree lodge and then 2 more nights at the Kanha Earth Lodge. The entire experience right from the pickup at Nagpur Airport was organised by the Pugdundee team and I cannot recommend them highly enough.

The experience started the night before the trip. I received a call from the manager of the property inviting us to come and also asked us if we had any specific food preferences. We informed him that we were all vegetarians and my father did not like garlic. Every meal across Pench and Kanha, the entire team ensured that there was a seperate meal prepared for my father that was equally fantastic! This kind of service across the board is what makes this property special. All the safaris were made extremely comfortable by the warm rugs and hot water bottles provided. This seems to be a signature Pugdundee service! Do not stock up on any short eats, no food is allowed inside the rooms at both Pench and Kanha.

At Pench, the cottages are massive and very thoughtfully decorated. The balcony in particular is a great place to relax after a safari. The food was also excellent and we had dinner every night by the pool along with a small fire place. Naturalist Shiv accompanied us on both our safari drives at Pench and his enthusiasm and knowledge of the jungle made both the drives an absolute treat. We spotted a leopard and a tigress and her cub at the 2 safari drives here.

Moving on, it was a comfortable 3 hours drive to Kanha and we arrived just in time for lunch. We were welcomed with a drink and tikka by Mr.Harpreet and his team. The rooms at Kanha were a tad bit smaller than the cottages at Pench but equally, if not more luxurious. The entire space has a natural stone look finish and warm lighting provided by lanterns across the property. The cottages are divided into a sleep space and a dressing area. Kanha was much colder than Pench and we really appreciated the room heater as well as the hot water bottles provided by the team at 9 pm every night! The dressing room had 2 WCs and 2 basins. This design helped us get ready quickly for the morning safaris. We even used the Yoga mats provided. The food and service was outstanding here - Coffee with a pug topping, hand churned ice creams with every meal and snacks by the outdoor fire pits! They had also organised for a traditional dinner on one of the nights and the entire setting was simply magical. We took 3 safari drives at Kanha, ànd were accompanied by Rajan and Naturalist Yash. Rajan is a local who seemed so attuned to the sounds of the Jungle. It was his skill and perseverance that helped us spot tigers on all the drives. Yash was a treasure trove of knowledge and kept us entertained with his stories.

Kudos to the team for the fantastic service and overall experience! We cannot wait to try the other properties or even go back to this one!

Good things first

Pungdundee group is run by good people. They are seized of the current situation and they try to make the stay as safe and be as accommodative as possible. We had to shorten our stay because of lockdown at Nagpur and they refunded the money without even our asking for it. Absolutely appreciate the gesture. The cottages in which we stayed were very spacious with two levels … so my son had some privacy of his own. The rooms were very well looked after and kept clean and tidy and toiletries provided were of good quality. The cottages opened into the resort’s own little jungle which was the best part of the cottage. We could sit there with our coffee watching the visiting kingfisher, Orioles and Hornbills. The naturalist who accompanied us on the safaris was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Most people were very courteous and cheerful.

However, there is lot that can improve..

The shower in the bathroom spewed water at every unintended direction and I’m sure could easily have been fixed had the housekeeping been more attentive. The wifi is next to non-existent which too I’m sure could be fixed. The walk-in closet walks right into the washroom so while its good for the person using the washroom it’s a tad stretch when the whole family is rushing for the early morning safari. The roof of the cottage is probably made of metal and hence makes whole lot of noises ruining sleep quality. On one of the nights there was a strong sustained breeze and lying on the bed it felt as if we were in a midst of a hurricane. There are regular power outages and when that happens at late night, the backup power takes a long time to come on and hence you are struggling between fluctuating temperature severely affecting sleep quality. The weakest link is its food. Though their dinners are sufficient and sumptuous the same isn’t the case with breakfast or lunch. The bread served in breakfast is hard and chewy and the parathas are quite listless and the egg preparation wholly unappetizing. First day lunch was for some reason a vegetarian fare with deep fried vegetables and rice in curried carrots called veg biryani. The rose petalled ice cream was not palatable. On other days for lunch chicken was served but we always felt as if they are running short of it because the servers were very hesitant to serve a second helping. The mutton and fish served for dinner were delicious but for some reason they never appeared for lunch. The other problem is that the resort allows large groups bookings. Which in India means howling group of children accompanied by boisterous and argumentative and extremely loud parents. We couldn’t sit on verandah in the evening because of loud uproarious bunch of kids howling away in the adjacent cottage and couldn’t have a peaceful dinner because their loud parents were howling at dinner table without a care in the world about other residents. So, if you are the kind of traveler like us, who prefer peace and quiet, then this certainly is not the place for you. Overall a mixed bag.

The lodge is really beautiful, the rooms have dark wooden walls and dark wood and cast iron furniture. Each treehouse has its own balcony where you can just sit in the quiet. The birds can be heard throughout the day and the insects come to life at night. We really enjoyed doing yoga on the balconies each morning. We were offered treehouse 3, I think it is the furthest from the restaurant but it is also the most private. In the few days we were there, no one ever walked past our room. 5 min walk to restaurant, 10 to the reception area, if you dont mind these distances, then I think this is the best treehouse.

The staff are wonderful, Harish is a gentleman and manages a focused team who care that guests have a good time. Everyone was really patient with us wandering about and into areas that we shouldn't have been. Rooms are attentively cared for, one night was particularly cold and we were happy to have the hot water bottles, the other nights it was very comfortable. I cannot claim to be an expert on Indian cuisine but the food here is the best Indian food I have ever eaten. Earlier in our trip we ate at Indian Accent in Delhi and found the food to be quite disappointing. Chef Pankaj and the rest of the F&B team make much better food than Indian Accent and the farm to fork seasonal concept is great.

Safaris are also very nice here. Harish decided to drive us and on our first drive we got to watch a beautiful tiger sitting in the grass. There seems to be a better attitude towards the tigers than in places like Tadoba. Tigers aside, the national park is beautiful with an abundance of flora and fauna.

Thank you to everyone for our favourite lodge experience ever.

This was the third Pugdundee property we visited and it's commendable how they have maintained such high standards of hospitality and service across all their properties.
Mr. Harish, the lodge manager and his team made our entire stay a very comfortable one.
We had booked one cottage and one tree house. The cottage had an attic with a double bed and was very spacious with naturally well lit work table and a large sit out area. The bathroom was spacious with enough space to stow your luggage. Everything is well maintained and clean. As soon as you step out for breakfast or safari, you would come back to find the room made up. This is followed by a turn down service in the evening.
The food was another highlight of our stay. The chef, Mr. Pankaj always checked if we wanted anything customized especially for our child but we always left it to him as both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes prepared were equally a delight for the taste buds. We especially loved the in-house ice creams. Our favourite was the rose ice cream and a very innovative one made with Mahua flowers from the trees found a plenty on the property and that were in blooming season in April. The restaurant staff would constantly check on our requirements and served with a lot of care.
We had booked safaris through the lodge and Mr. Shiv, the in-house naturalist guided us on our safaris. He is extremely knowledgeable and it was a pleasure to learn more about the flora and fauna of Pench from him.
We stayed for three nights and at the end of it wished we could spend more time here.
I'd highly recommend this property because I'm sure it'll make you want to keep coming back.

My husband and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary at the Tree Lodge. The booking process was simple and very effective. A special thanks to Mr. Amiya Sen! We were welcomed with an amazing Ginger Drink and were briefed on the entire property, tracks and locations. We were also gifted a steel thermos to discourage use of single use plastic bottles.
The property is amazing, we stayed in a Tree House which was so comfortable and well designed accompanied with a beautiful verandah and subtle forest lighting.
We visited the kitchen garden and explored the entire property on cycles.
The restaurant was impeccable. Chef Pankaj Guthera made it so special by baking us a cake for our anniversary and the table was decorated in rose petals, tealight cancldes and leaves (eco friendly) by our attended Mr. Devendra Yadav. The food is 10/10, well cooked, garnished, rich home grown ingredients and the flavour is unforgettable. Although we just had Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, we obviously enjoyed every flavorful bite siting across the pool in the wild.
Mr. Gaurav also kept checking on our comfort and we thoroughly enjoyed out stay.
The Gift shop has some creative products which is a good reminder of the stay at the Tree Lodge.

We stayed at this property from 14th November for 4 nights and had booked a tree house. The tree houses are very well maintained as is the rest of the property. The natural features of the property which include the bush, forested sections, water bodies have been left untouched and one finds walking on trails to get to get to facilities in the property (all within a few minutes and conveniently located). The entire team starting with the Resort manager - Harish, going all the way down seem to anticipate every need of the guest intuitively. The jungle safaris are excellently planned and the naturalist and safari guides here are absolutely top notch. I specially mention our interaction with Mohan (naturalist) and Shiv (guide cum driver) who are on top of their subjects and are truly domain experts. Harish's team is warm, sensitive. The dining options are limited but adequate and well made from locally grown ingredients. The tree lodges are simply superb in their construction, ambience and services. The entire property is eco-concious and the absence of plastic, retention of natural elements, home grown organic ingredients, proximity to the Karmajhiri gate (at the forest), great cycling expeditions and late evening wildlife presentations - leave you wondering what more could one ask for. Room service is discouraged as it can attract insects, reptiles and animals but is not a disadvantage in any way. I recommend at least 2 full days here if not 3 as they can keep you busy. If tiger sighting is not the only agenda, you will enjoy a wide variety of birds, leopard sighting (if lucky), wild boar, Gaur (like a bison), deer jackals, and a wide variety of trees and plants. Its a paradise for naturalists. A must go.

This is one of the best safari lodges I’ve ever stayed at, within 3 weeks of our first visit we were back again with friends visiting from the UK. Harish and his team looked after us so well, nothing was too much trouble. The tree houses are fantastic; comfortable, spacious and discretely placed around the grounds so are private and quiet. The meals are out of this world thanks to their amazing chef, Pankaj, all fruit and veg grown on site and transformed into the most delicious curries I have ever tasted. And last, but certainly no means least, was our guide, Gaurav, so knowledgable, eyes like a hawk and such a pleasant guy to go out and spend the day with. With a combination of his skill and some luck we were lucky enough to have tiger sightings on most drives, not what we were expecting at all! But it’s not all about tigers and Pench is full of other wildlife and birds, there was nothing nicer than getting away from the other jeeps and just parking up somewhere to listen and watch, I could have done it all day. Thank you Harish, and all your team, for making our stay so enjoyable.

We had a memorable stay at Pench Tree Lodge. The booking experience with the central reservations team was seamless thanks to Pankaj Gairola. He was very prompt and helpful.

Pench Tree Lodge is a 3-hour drive from Nagpur Airport. On arrival we were warmly greeted by the lodge manager Harish and his team. There are currently 6 tree lodges and 6 cottages. Cottages are ideal for small families or groups of 3-4 people. There is a large bed in the ground floor and another bed in the loft. We loved the spacious balcony. The cottages are a little too close to each other and especially if there are noisy guests it can get a tad irritating.

The restaurant, pool and the lounge area are located a short walk away from the cottages. The food was exceptional and very tasty. Thanks to Chef Pankaj Fulera and his team, we had wonderful and some unique dishes during our stay. The "Paanch Gaon Ke Andar" menu and dishes were exceptionally good. All ingredients were sourced from nearby villages in this menu.

We made a good friend in Naturalist Radhe who accompanied us on all our safaris and also took us on a nature walk around the property. He is very knowledgeable and has an uncanny ability to spot birds and animals from a distance. We enjoyed his company thoroughly! I would recommend taking him or any of the other Naturalists (Shiv, Deepa and the rest of the team) at Pench Tree Lodge for safaris as they are among the best!

There is a near-invisible team of housekeeping staff who make sure that the room is always clean and tidy, hardly ever being seen.

We enjoyed the peace and quiet at the property. The Karmajhiri gate is a short 15 minute drive through some nice villages. The safaris are very well organised. Overall, a memorable stay at Pench Tree Lodge. We hope to visit their other properties in the near future.

Depends, I guess on the time of your visit. Ideally, on their site, there is a tab for reservation (Book Online). I would, however, advise that you check with them through a mail or a call to check for the safari permits first. If they are available, then check for room availability and tariffs.
