Travellers' Choice
Bagh Villas is a luxury tented camp located on the edge of Kanha National Park. It has 12 well-appointed air conditioned tents providing the feel of camping in the jungle without compromising on luxury. All tents are air conditioned and with hot and cold running water. Inspired by the Maharajas during their hunting expeditions, the luxury tents at Bagh Villas use the traditional Shikar design. Pitched on an elevated wooden platform, the tents are located along the lake and others amidst the foliage of trees. Our spacious tents have been created with individual verandahs at the front designed to while away hours in privacy observing the teeming bird and animal life all around. The people who live around Bagh Villas are mostly tribal from Baiga or Gond community. They live in perfect harmony with the nature and are generally nature lovers. Most of them live in close knit communities. We employ local people from a 5 kilometre radius of the camp in order to help the local economy.

To set the context, I'm not a review writer at all and to top it all don't have a great memory but the fact I'm writing a review for this place and that too 2 years after visiting it speaks volumes about the impact Akhilesh, his wife Leah and their team made on me when we visited them. I wasn't a big fan of safaris till I visited Bagh Villas and now with that experience, I'm game for my next one. To start with, the place is really well maintained, they've used real good quality material for everything, right from the tents, to its furnishings, to dining areas, cutlery, the bikes, can go on and on. To top that, the personal touch and care which Akhilesh and Leah provide is just out of this world. The variety of food i ate was awesome and the taste was to die for. Leah also gave recipes for the stuff we liked the most. The safaris they hosted were so well organized with sumptuous and good amount of food well packed neatly and the efficiency of laying it over the jeeps and packing them back was just out of the world, it was as if they'd practiced it million times. I was amazed how they could stay up so late nite with us and then when we barely were able to wake up in time for the safari, they were ready, having cooked and packed breakfast, tea, coffee and still looked fresh and happy. While all this credit goes to Akhilesh and Leah, their team comprising of Panish (and my sincere apologies for not remember the name of the other colleagues as its been 2 years) was just way beyond expectations. They were really knowledgeable about Kanha, about animals and their passion for animals was too infectious. When I get a chance, I would just go there to stay and enjoy the hospitality, their company and just being there with such amazing souls. Hope they stay just the way there were. And yes, the massage too was great. As I write, it brings in great memories and I might just add a few things later as I recollect them. PS- I travelling in March/April 2019 but had to select May 20 as that's the earliest option it gave me

Bagh Villas provides all the luxuries while respecting the natural surroundings. The tents and architecture are unobtrusive, and incredibly comfortable. Each detail has been carefully thought through. Meals are delicious and beautifully presented with fresh in-house produce. In our five-night stay not once did a meal feel repetitive. Thank you Lia and your wonderful team! We spent as much time outdoors as we could, and Shrikanth with his incredible knowledge of wildlife, birds, butterflies, trees is a storehouse of information. He is a naturalist who gets as much joy out of sharing information as in discovering new things - it was wonderful to be around him. Last but certainly not least, Umesh - who made everything happen with such perfection and good humour. Thank you to the entire BV family! PS we saw lots of tigers!

My partner and I went to Bagh Villas the first time just before COVID hit, and throughout this past year we told ourselves that should circumstances allow we would return. Luckily, we were able to back it back this March and things were just as we remembered them - the beautiful tent overlooking the water, the carefully-made food and the warmth and hospitality of our hosts, Akhilesh and Lia. There is nothing that Bagh Villas doesn't do well - the coffee is consistently good, the spa is wonderful, the pool is a delight, the food is varied and well-made, and you feel thoroughly looked after (which I think is the goal of all good holidays). A special shout-out to Shrikanth Nayak, who has become my favourite naturalist - he has an unflagging enthusiasm that I wish I could steal, not to mention a gargantuan knowledge of all things natural. Thank you, guys! And we'll be back as soon as the world allows.
