This is a real character place, with lots and lots of steps, and some amazing views. The staff are brilliant, every time we were returning to our room at night one of the security team appeared with a torch to light our way. The rooms are basic but comfortable and the view from our veranda was spectacular. The restaurant is very pleasant and offers excellent food at a reasonable cost. There is afternoon tea in the tea shack and we were lucky enough to experience a BBQ under the boulder too. We decided to use the laundry service and were very impressed with the speed, quality and cost of the service. Part of the estate does overlook what can best be described as a building site but away from this it is brilliant. One word of caution, they do say they can take credit cards but…
A very pleasant stay amongst the tea plantations of Munnar. The hotel bungalows are functional and in general have good views. The food is fixed menu and there is no alcohol, but you can take your own if you know in advance! The tea room is great for trying locals teas and snacks. The staff are helpful. The site is very remote after travelling across many poor quality roads.
We had a massive estate villa which had no less than 8 separate rooms. Superb views over tea plantations and hills. Nice touches like the afternoon tea and guided walks available. Food was very good and while it was a set menu there were usually 2 vegetarian and 2 meat dishes so something for everyone. Lovely staff. Met the owner Dr Simon who clearly takes personal pride in the quality of what the Estate offers to guests.
I write this at the end of our 3rd day at Windermere Estate and from day 1 it has been exceptional. We had 2 estate rooms which were lovely. Breakfasts were great, the fruit juices superb, afternoon tea and snacks brilliant and the set evening meals were among the best food eaten in India so far. The grounds are idyllic with lots of areas to sit, including loads of hammocks which were very comfortable. The biggest shout out though must go to the staff who were all so friendly and helpful they made the stay a joy. Thank you all.
We had a lovely 2 night stay here. As the title says - the food was amazing! There wasn’t a single dish we didn’t like. It’s a set price for lunch and dinner and you don’t get a choice but don’t let that put you off. The only negatives were that we felt that on making enquiries for trekking, the price quoted was too high. We managed to arrange this ourselves for much less. It would also be beneficial if guests know in advance what activities are taking place. We went to a cooking demo after a member of staff invited us along. We then found out that there was tea tasting the day before but we hadn’t been told so missed out.
