Has kitchen for guest use, wifi is decent, selection of tubes and kayaks for use on lake, free purified water (not all that common in Nicaragua), perhaps a bit pricey at $12/night for a dorm room that doesn't provide individual fans

Laguna Apoyo is a small crater lake were you can relaxe and swim for a day, or two. The hotel is situated direct next to the lagoon, has different terrace layers (no grass) and a bar, you can make 'free' use of kayak, as a guest. I booked the place because I heared good stories. The view is nice and...

My husband and I are budget travellers but spent a night in a private room with private bath. One of the most expensive rooms (yeah I know, only $46 +tx but the bar tab got us =$80.00). The room was awesome and the fans were ok, but the bed was by far the most uncomfortable we slept on for our...

We went just for a night but used the facilities for 2 days and stayed in one of the lower private rooms. At first we thought the price was a bit steep but as they have a full kitchen on site for staying guests (really clean and fully stocked) and as we brought food it cut costs considerably. On site...

We spent two nights and three days here with our family of five. We had originally booked the cabana but it was under construction. The owner graciously allowed us to stay in their living quarters for the same price as the cabin. What a treat! We had fantastic time swimming in the amazing waters of Laguna de Apoyo, kayaking, beach...

This hotel is COMPLETELY overprized! We paid almost 17 dollars for a dorm (8people in there). The room is packed with beds, there's hardly any room to put your backpacks or anything else. The wifi does not work in the area of the rooms. The "Beach" could be nice, however the owners don't seem to be interested in making it...

I was happy they allowed my dog to enjoy the outdoors with me and to see like minded pet owners sharing the lake with their dogs as well. Most Nicaraguans act funny around cats and dogs mostly because in general they don't treat their pets like family, but as animals to live outside covered in ticks and fleas. Spending the...

There was some miscommunication about pricing. I believe it had to do with taxes maybe? In the end, while the stay was beautiful, I'm a backpacker on a budget, and the price was more than I'm comfortable with. A heads up that both a friend and I tried the ceviche, and spent the night throwing up. It was not the...

The location is beautiful! The Monkey Hut is clean and very inviting. The lake is warm and beautiful. The staff at The Monkey Hut are very kind and helpful. My friend and I stayed for the day and needed some assistance translating and finding a hotel in Managua near the airport. The staff were more than willing to help. Whether...

The lake is beautiful and great place for a swim. The water is warm and blue. We loved swimming out to the floating docks and jumping in. There are lots of hammocks to relax and kayaks and tubes to play in the water. Food wasn't fantastic, but the location is perfect.

“If you are a couple or just someone who is looking for a nice room, I would recommend the private rooms! I ended up staying in the dorms; which was was nice as well.”

“The rooms under the balcony facing the laguna get very intense, bright morning sun. The hut on the hill going down has a thatch roof currently covered in plastic, making it quite hot. Day trippers "camp out" right in front of this hut, so there's little privacy on the nice balcony (at least until they all leave).”
