Travellers' Choice
Indian Culture Hostel is a beautiful place. In the heart of Tapovan, only 5 minute walk from the famous Laxman Jhula Bridge and the market, and still in a very peaceful and quiet environment. We have a big garden where you can sit quietly and enjoy the fresh air and the birds singing. -- Experience the nature – -- An oasis in the desert -- We love travelers and backpackers, sharing stories, in general, the hostel lifestyle.

I stayed there a week with a friend and it was great. I had a friend who lived there during lockdown and she recommended it based on her experience. I enjoyed the time there, the food is very good and the owners are kind and helpful. The bed was super comfy, a rarity in Rishikesh.

We were welcomed like we were part of a family. Everyone there was warm and welcoming especially the staff. Nothing was too much trouble and the food was fresh and exciting. Lots of outside space and a few minutes walk from shops and the Ganga river. Creativity was encouraged and all kinds of entertainment happened with lots of live music. All in all one of my favourite places in the world. Thanks to everyone.

Horrific and terrible experience. I checked out in the middle of the night of the first day of booking itself. I don't even know where to begin. I checked in in the afternoon - the host Avirjaan was nowhere to be found. In fact, no one even knew anyone with that name there. Initially I didn't read much into it. The room was decent but shabby with torn bedsheets and only a few working lights and the door was very difficult to lock. I was traveling solo and as a solo female traveler I did not feel comfortable there at all. In the afternoon everything was okay but as it got dark the vibe of the place just changed. There were unruly drunk men ( friends of the owner ) in the room right next to mine. The place was run by no official person just servant boys who kept pestering me with all sorts of unrequired questions, the hostel had no boundary wall and it just gave a very very unsafe and eerie vibe. I shut my lights, drew the curtains, locked the door and went off to sleep at around 8:30 pm. At around 9:45 pm I woke up to loud banging on my door. It was continuous and I was too afraid to answer. I had not asked for any room service or anything and someone banging on my door at night was just something that set off my intuition alarm. After 20 minutes or so I decided to look out of the window after gathering some courage and saw no one there. I stepped out asked for some food from the kitchen they said they'll bring it to my room. Someone brought food to my room after 20 minutes or so and knocked on the door. I didn't want to open it. I asked them to leave the food and told them I'll take it in a bit. They kept on knocking- more like banging and said no first you open the door then only we'll leave the food. I knew something was extremely off about the whole situation. Fortunately, I had relatives living nearby. I called them up and asked them to come get me asap. My relatives reached around 12 am. When I was getting out of the place the servant boys came after me told me I could not leave. I told them I don't care there's someone here to pick me I am leaving as I had prepaid everything online. Around 4-5 of them gathered around me in order to intimidate me but I kept walking till I had reached my relatives car. I didn't care if I had already paid for the next day because at that moment I just cared about my safety like it should be.

For our stay in Rishikesh, we researched quite a bit and decided to give a try to hostel stay. After going through lot of reviews and extensive search we narrowed down on Indian Culture hostel. We felt that it is quite recent in hostel list of rishikesh. It is behind the laxman jhula taxi parking stand. Hostel premises are welcoming, rooms are neat, we stayed in a double room with attached washroom. There is lot of area for movement. Dedicated places for relaxation and social chatter where you can meet fellow travellers from all across the globe. One of our nights during our stay though we had a little unpleasant experience. There is a dedicated yogshala in the premises. It was exactly opposite our room no. 103. We had had a tiring day and went to sleep around 2230hrs, few hostel inhabitants were gathered in the yogshala at night. At first, all of them were talking, but later in the night round 2300hrs, they started playing music. It was not too loud, but due to open space it could be clearly heard in our room and was enough for us to not get sleep. I was just about to go and request them to stop playing the music, when the gathering was finished and everyone went back to their respective rooms. We saw the time it was 2.30am post midnight. Half of the night we were rendered sleepless due to them. Other than this incident, everything else is quite good. Staff is helpful, food is delicious at Kumbha: their in house cafe. Overall good stay.
