We chose this as a venue to celebrate our children’s christening with a family party in excess of 30 people (exact date not available to select) It was a beautiful day. Since then the venue has decimated the surrounding area/environment in an unforgivable way. It is beyond a shame and as someone who grew up in the area their actions are a real source of angst.

We wanted to like this place. We needed a nice treat & much needed break so splashed out over £600/night bb. What a disappointing experience. Every word below is true, though i know on reading it may seem just too much. The hotel's position and views from the restaurant/breakfast area are what this hotel dines out on. Great views. However our room was small, smelly and massively overlooked the car park. We could actually hear every word spoken by people as they walked in the front door. And the large windows meant everyone could see us as we walked around our small room, got out of bed and got changed unless we pulled the curtains totally. There was a corner view of the sea too - which was nice as it distracted from watching all the cars coming and going. Also couldn’t believe for the price no airon or fan and it was warm summer days we were there. There were also no tea-making facilities and no mini bar. We also carried our valuables around as there was no room-safe. The up side to our room position was that if you'd like to know the train times you didn’t need to ask as they regularly ran past the window just beyond the car park around 80 meters away, rattling over the bridge from 7.15 in the morning til after 11. The pool was shut, actually it was a literal building site, as was being totally renovated as was the spa. The bar was shut - not in use. The restaurant food was mixed at best. A few of the staff were lovely, but quite a few were unfriendly and quite simply off. I know Covid is a strain - i get it. But they didn’t manage it well. They didn’t warn people at booking, or on the website, before arriving and they should have forewarned about renovations and been up front about the crap room. Deluxe? On checking in, we were told to book breakfast for the next day and promptly told only 7.30 was available. I said it was meant to be a break so wouldn’t be getting up early to suit them. They didn’t mention that in fact you had to book every day before. I don’t think i even once got through to the reception when i called. The messages we left were never replied to / followed up on. I know there are some great rooms here, because the alluring photos at time of booking made us book - but you will pay through the nose (some well into 4 figures) to stay there we discovered. I asked to speak to the manager a few times and she refused to come out to speak to us but sent someone else. This was poor show and says 'not bothered'. We had other issues but you get the picture. This hotel clearly is as good as it needs to be, perhaps lacking competition and its newer rooms may well give a totally different experience hence such diverse reviews. We love Cornwall and St Ives is lovely, with fabulous beaches but our experience of his hotel was not good - a waste of money. I post just two of our pictures - one of the pool area we were led to believe we'd be lying beside (that sold us) and the actual one that greeted us...

Fantastic location, we had one of the lodge type accommodation, which were simply stunning. The view was breathtaking. The spa was very nice, and the food was ok, but wasn't quite to the standards of simlier places we have stayed. Overall, was a very good package and waking up to that view was worth the money alone!

Some good friends who share similar tastes in hotels had visited Carbis Bay in October - and so when our planned trip to Australia was cancelled - we wanted somewhere to visit between Christmas and New Year (thankfully we live in Tier 2 and Cornwall was Tier 2 - so it was still able to happen!) and so took inspiration from their trip! We had one of the 3 bedroom beach front lodges - and it was FABULOUS! They were really well decorated and spotlessly clean. We could have had housekeeping - but having found the mop and vacuum ourselves, we didn't bother. Although on one day we asked for the rubbish to be taken as we'd emptied the bins and it was done within seconds. My husband and I ate at 1894 one evening and the food and service were impeccable. We ate as a family in The Beach Club another evening which was also great - and very child friendly too. Room service was also excellent - both the breakfast hampers - and then pizzas / burgers etc. The location is incredible - right on the beach. The weather was very blustery when we were there - and so the wave noise was immense - but it just added to the character! The only minor complaint is the lack of storage in the bedrooms. There are wardrobes with plenty of hanging space - but all 3 rooms would have benefitted from an additional chest of drawers. But this really is only a minor point. The spa is currently under renovation - but that didn't stop me having a wonderful treatment - and we definitely need to head back once the refurbishment is complete! The walk along the coastal path into St Ives is easy - even in stormy weather - and then we hopped on the train back which takes minutes. Overall we had a fabulous stay - Daniel and the concierge team for the lodges are brilliant - we wouldn't hesitate to visit again.

This is about our sixth visit here and it is a lovely hotel. This trip did have some issues with bookings and I can only put this down to just recently opening up after the latest lockdown and a few new staff. The problems we had were with bookings for the restaurant and a cream tea but all were sorted by the wonderful Maxine. The new restaurant and bar area are lovely. Only criticism was the wooden backed chairs are not comfy. They have a low back support and are too reclined which forces you to lean forward and can be a problem if you have a back issues. We asked for them to be changed after a while for the blue chairs which are perfect. Maxine came to the rescue again. Great hotel, great service, great staff, great food and great location.
