Detailed Reviews
This guest house is located on the main road connecting the airport to the city. It has rooms of various sizes. Some rooms do not have windows. In some rooms, the windows open into garbage dumps. Housekeeping depends on your persistence and ability to move the staff. Nobody wakes up before 0800 Hrs IST. You will be served food with the same hands that were cleaning rooms because your call interrupted that activity. There are two persons who look after all the cleaning, cooking and serving. There is no backup for power failure. The laundry service is very poor. In case you plan to pay using a credit card and a failed transaction receipt appears, be sure to call your bank immediately. Also remember to collect the receipt. 1 in 3 transactions fail but the money would be debited from your account. Save yourself the headache and pay only by cash. Stay here if you have nowhere else to go.

There were some good points about the Charulata The Boutique Guest House e.g.food was good (but don't look in the kitchen), location was handy and staff were friendly. However, there were many negative points too. Firstly, it's impossible to pay with international credit cards (although cards on Indian banks seem to work). The hotel should make this clear to customers from the start. I had to make an expensive bank transfer and it was difficult to get the bank account details from the hotel to do this and then they initially refused to give me a receipt as the payment hadn't been processed by their bank by the time I left. Also, the rooms are quite enclosed - no natural light. Room cleaning was also a bit ad hoc. The wifi wasn't working for several days - I understand that there can sometime be problems, but no-one from the hotel seemed to be making any effort to sort it out. All in all - not a good experience. Therefore I can't recommend it.

I Lived in this Guest House/ Boutique Charulata for 11 days . After day one itself i moved out to Hotel Ginger because the bathroom stunk or Urine and there is no Housekeeping in place . As soon as i moved out , i get a call from the owner ' Mrs. Suparna ' literally begging me to come and live again offering me a different room . I gave it another shot & totally regretted doing it . There still was no provision for House keeping and hence no cleanliness maintained . Service is zero . No laundry provision . Meals have to be ordered one and a half hour in advance . After the whole stay you'll be overcharged for it.

The hotel is in good condition, only one floor, 6 rooms available, rooms are clean and tidy toilets are also clean. Breakfast is complimentary and also lunch and dinner is available you can customize your food orders as per your needs just prior inform is required. However one problem persist they mention free wifi but there was no wifi available in the hotels, the staff are good and hospitable.

+1
It has all the basic amenities such as AC, Comforter, Geyser, tea kit and boiler. Even the furnitures are contemporary. Food is decent though they served us stale chicken. Team is courteous.
However, a big negative on housekeeping. The rooms are very dirty. Cobwebs on furnitures, dirty footmats, unwashed comforters, dusty floors and walls.
Someone needs to really check this aspect. Very bad upkeep.
It isn't cheap as well at 2.5k.

I never book a place without looking at the reviews. Somehow I did in this case. Major error. What’s written here is the tip of the iceberg. Yes the place is cheap. There’s a reason for that. It’s amateur hour all the way. Here are some lowlights:
1) they lost my reservation
2) then they said the place was booked but somehow found me a room; I stayed 5 nights (I’m a masochist) and didn’t see another soul here the whole time. Just me and a cast of thousands of staff milling about sweeping leaves.
3) meals are an adventure. Hope you’re not hungry.
4) at every turn, day or night, someone was banging on my door for some stupid reason. LOCK the door—they will walk right in
5) like everyone says, first I couldn’t get in, then I couldn’t leave—no way to use a credit card. Have cash or forget it.
There’s more but this is enough. When I wasn’t angry I felt badly for these guys. Most seem really kind but confused. But that doesn’t excuse the fact that this place is a mess.
