Whilst most of the big hotels allow non-residents to use their Onsens, none have the same character as Onsen Yukoro. Only 7 minutes walk from the main intersection in Hirafu. The water is 43° from a natural spring and is constantly replenished. Sitting outside, amid natural rock with snow falling (and freezing) on your hair is an experience not to...

This lovely onsen is small but traditional(so I've heard as it was my first onsen). It's not too busy ( I went around 3pm) and it's beautiful. There's enough amenities to get you by all for the low cost of 700 Y. Definitely recommend popping by here.

Been to this place every night after a hard day on the slopes. You can feel the soreness float away as you enter either the indoor or outdoor onsen. The outdoor one is in a setting of a beautiful garden that in winter is covered in snow. I have not felt this healthy since I was a kid. Lifelong memories.

The location in Lower Hirafu is convenient for the many holidayers in winter. It is busier in the winter months. In the summer, there was nobody there except my mother and me. This is the only one where unconventional onsen behaviour is tolerated: consuming drinks in the pool, talking on the mobile phone in the pool. There is a sign...

Firstly, this is not where the trip advisor map says it is! It's actually down one of the side streets. Google maps have it right. It's an authentic experience and only 700 yen. The outdoor pool is amazing. Especially if it's snowing. It's popular though and there are some loud talkers which is not in the spirit of onsens. If...

Worth the visit - muscles are now rejuvenated and relaxing after a day skiing. Highly recommend it! Easy walk and easy to find. Have a beer whilst relaxing in the outdoor tub. Snow falling on your face whilst soaking in a hot pool?

This was such a great place. The baths were outside so we could sit in the hot spring water with a backdrop of snow whilst it was snowing, all the while with a cold beer or soft drink in your hand. The baths was large so it could accommodate a good number of people which was a good thing as...

The place is a bit old and would need clean up but the experience of the hot batch outside in the winter with snow almost all around you is worth it. Plus 700y per person is a pretty decent price so don't miss it if you are in Hirafu.

As far as I can tell, this is a completely traditional Japanese onsen (with one difference - unlike most, foreigners with tattoos seem welcome so no need to cover up your ink). It's a 15 minute walk or so from Upper Hirafu so reasonably convenient and price at Y700 is very reasonable. Probably about 2/3 foreigners but traditional onsen etiquette...

This place is the best ! Very reasonable price. Excellent facilities friendly and the real deal. You can even have a beer while you soak if you want . Great for weary muscles after a day skiing or boarding . Separate male and female . Really excellent
