Just had a 9 day unforgettable stay at the Villa Goa, owned by Mark Bell, which is a magnificent property with 2 colonial villas (Villa Goa and the "smaller" Vila Jardim). We were a party of 6, so used both properties. First of all, the pictures of the place do not over promise (as it is usually the case), the place is even nicer. The décor is put together with a lot of thought and very fitting for this over 200 year old place. The Villa Goa is located in Assagao not far away from all the bustling action and within easy driving distance to the various beaches. It was always great to come back to this oasis of peace and quiet or stay an entire afternoon at the fantastic pool in a well maintained garden in the back of the property next to Villa Jardim. Mark was always very helpful and went out of his way to provide helpful tips or made Restaurant reservations even before we arrived and certainly during our stay. Staff is also available at the property which is an unusual extra bonus. Amar, Kalpesh and Steven are wonderful people, always helpful and Steven outperformed preparing us wonderful meals at the property for a very reasonable price (24 hours notice is naturally required since he buys everything fresh). This was so far the best holiday property I have ever stayed and I can't think of a nicer place in Goa. We can’t wait to return to this wonderful place at some point in the future and I can wholeheartedly recommend this place (5/5). Thank you very much for everything, Mark, Steven, Kalpesh, Amar.…
The Villa Goa, owned by Mark Bell, is a beautiful property with 2 colonial villas (the main Villa Goa) and the "smaller" 2 bedrooms one (the Vila Jardim). Both properties are an excellent option, specially for larger groups (although they can be booked separately. They're very spacious and with functional yet quirky decor. The Villa Goa is located in Assagao which is a quiet, up and coming location in North Goa with some great options for restaurants (e.g. Gunpowder) and stores (e.g Rangeela) a few minutes walking from the villa, fantastic. We booked Villa Jardim to celebrate mum's birthday and we stayed 1 week. We enjoyed dining at the villa (excellent food!), we also had massages from Renita and George who kindly came to the villa and pampered us, highly recommended! Mark was impeccable from the moment I decided to book Villa Jardim (quite a few months in advance), responding professionally and with promptness to my multiple queries and requests by email -- we wanted to sure mum would bring excellent memories back home. She was treated kindly by the staff, including offering her a bouquet of flowers, on her anniversary day, very touching. I can't think of a nicer place in Goa and I wouldn't hesitate to book the Villa Jardim again - to me, and although it's not the main original villa, is the one that has the most spectacular setting overlooking the beautiful maintained gardens and pool. Thank you very much for everything, Mark. Best wishes.…
This was my first time visiting India and I was absolutely delighted on arriving at villa Goa. I had the opportunity to stay in both properties over the week (Villa Goa and Villa Jardim) and both were beautiful and immaculately clean All staff were extremely friendly and the cooking provided by the chef was outstanding! Thank you Wilbert! The owner Mark was really friendly, approachable and helpful in recommending and booking restaurants. His attention to detail is outstanding which is reflected in both the service provided by all staff and also the standards of the rooms. The location of the villa is stunning close enough to the hustle and bustle to get a real feel for Goa but also set in what can only be described as a mini paradise with stunning gardens and forest and arguably the best pool I have ever swum in. Overall an unforgettable trip, thank you to all at Villa Goa, look forward to seeing u again soon!…
This was a return visit to the wonderful Villa Goa for me - and it was even better than my first time- the location and faciltiies are second to none, great for accessing the best of Goa but even better for just chilling and enjoying the fantastic villa - early morning sitting out on the terrace having breakfast - the sights and sounds of the forest waking is just beyond words - and a few laps in the private pool helped to work up an apetite for dinner - impeccably prepared by the chef...highly reocommend. For a change I wanted to eat out and Mark recommended Gunpowder which is a 2 minute walk away - fabulous food too
This was my second time staying at the villa goa this year, I was lucky enough to be able to stay in the main house for a few days in August during monsoon which was a pleasure, although I had the whole house to myself, Mark (the owner) and his staff were there if I needed anything which was reassuring. The second time I stayed was in Villa Jardim at the rear of the main house, I stayed with a friend and her daughter and although the villa was smaller, it was just as comfortable with 2 bedrooms a large reception room and kitchen plus terrace and verandah. the owner and staff were attentive yet unobtrusive which imo is/was a great plus, if there’s one thing I can’t bare it’s hotel/villa rental staff milling around in your face 24/7. The food was great and the breakfast was more than adequate with fresh fruit, juice, choice of cereals and cooked items and the homemade breads preserves made it all the more special. Food orders for lunch and dinner had to be requested at breakfast, which was understandable as it was villa and not a large hotel, nothing was too much trouble, and the kitchen facilities in villa jardim were another plus if we wanted to cook our own food (but who in their right mind does that on vacation). The pool...’THE POOL’ was...I was speechless, we were all speechless, just fantastic end of. Mark the owner kindly offered and small paddling pool and inflatable arm floats for my friends daughter which was a very helpful and caring. Wifi / phone signal, mostly good with the odd break due to unforseen circumstances, phone signal not good but the location is in a kind of valley which means you have to walk up the drive to the road, so no big deal there. Power outages few and far between, but there is a UPS for lights and tv, but not ac which again is understandable and besides it just resets when the power comes back. all in all we had an amazing time and although the title says “a home from home”, I wish my home was like this. I can’t wait to go back.…
We stayed there recently with our family and was shocked with the arrogance of Mark(owner). He came across as very heady person and least interested in making us feel comfortable, completely contrary of what we had expected from the hefty price we paid for the property. Worst was that they have no generators to back up the constant electricity fluctuations ! There were allot of long dark periods that we had to put-up with and worst was that no one is available for help ! Extremely miser attitude with terrible breakfast of just cereal and fruits, run down towels, no shampoo or bath gel in toilets ! He levied allot of in-genuine incidental charges to avoid paying us the full deposit money back. Over all a very bad experience ! Have allot of English friends in UK and have stayed with amazing European hosts but never came across such a snooty Bristisher ! I guess it's time for this Bristisher to go back to his country and learn something about hospitality !…
I am an extremely particular traveler and reviewer (see my other reviews), but I find it hard to find many faults in my experience at The Villa! I only wish I had found this villa earlier. There is probably nothing like this anywhere in Goa. The English owner is personally involved in the day to day management of the villa, and this is really well demonstrated in the overall experience that you will have. He is extremely particular and precise about the running and maintenance of the property, and I was thrilled to see this in action from the minute we arrived. I knew we were going to have a fabulous stay! Here is my review on specific points: Booking process - very smooth, transparent, with clear pre-arrival information and coordination. Car and driver - outsourced a great small company that has a few cars, they have worked with The Villa for years. Warning - Goa car rental in general is not cheap, there are not really any taxis available, so you need to budget to rent a daily car. You deal with the driver directly, so this is not billed through The Villa. The Villa is about an hour from the airport. Location - the area of Assagao is a beautiful lush part of Goa. Its about 15 minutes from the nearest beach. There are many cute cafes and restaurants in the area, and other good restaurants within 20 to 30 minutes. The nearest lunchtime locations that are healthy cafes (if you don't have lunch at The Villa) are Villa Blanche, Ruta's Roadhouse, and Nattis Cafe. For something a bit heavier try Gunpowder or Ciao Bella. About 15 minutes drive to Vagator and you have lots of restaurants - Thalassa, Antares and others on the same strip. About 25 minutes drive to Morjim and lots of beach shacks and restaurants such as La Plage. Mark the owner, can help you book all these in advance or whilst are you are at the property. The Villa - there are two villas on the property. The main Villa and Villa Jardim. We stayed in both for three nights each. The main Villa is an old construct that was entirely refurbished. It is huge, beautiful, high ceilings, open central courtyard and 3 bedrooms. Villa Jardim is a new construct with 2 bedrooms, a kitchen and a small living room. The Pool - 18 metre pool, wow, we couldn't quite believe we had this whole pool to ourselves! 6 comfy lounge beds with proper mattresses and large umbrellas, fresh towels at the pool every day laid out before we arrived. The path down to the pool is stone steps and a bit uneven - incase anyone has mobility issues they should check before visiting. The Rooms - all are ensuite. Some bathrooms have two basins, all have walk-in showers. The rooms in the main Villa are large, the ones in Villa Jardim much smaller but there is a huge terrace balcony off the bedroom. There are proper sheets and duvets (much appreciated as unusual for Goa), and towels in the bathroom. There is no shower gel/shampoo, hairdryer etc - so bring your own, or request it in advance. The main thing is that the rooms are spotlessly clean! We are very particular about this, and appreciated the level of cleanliness maintained. There is quite alot of noise and light coming into the rooms due to monkeys, various bird sounds early morning and light coming through the skylights. Meals - breakfast is included and served on one of the terraces or inside, up to you. There is fresh fruit, museli, homemade breads (delicious), homemade jams, eggs to order. You can ask for other things in advance, but don't expect an Indian breakfast. Other meals can be served by the chef Steven (another English gentleman who has lived in India for many years), who has immense knowledge about many things, including local fruits and veggies. You can plan the menus in advance with him. We didn't have other meals as went out for all, but I am confident that Steven could serve a deliciouslunch or dinner. Service - daily housekeeping is provided and there is a gardner/security guard around all the time. After breakfast is served the butler and owner will leave you to your own devices. If you are looking for hotel type service then don't stay here. The idea is to run the villa as if it were your own. There is a fridge stocked with snacks and drinks, and you just help yourself and you are billed at the end. You can whatsapp or call any of the staff if you need anything, and they will respond quickly. Tips - When booking, be clear about your expectations of the Villa and ensure they are being met. This is not an experience for everybody who is used to staying in a hotel. There are certain ways that the Villa has to be managed during your stay, and you need to be prepared for that and respect the rules of the property which has been so well maintained for guests. Lots of mosquitos in the area, so be prepared. Not really a place for children - lots of steps, and the pool doesn't have a shallow end. WIFI is available but phone reception is poor. There are often power cuts so don't rely on getting constant internet. Overall - can't really fault this place. The few points of feedback I had were quickly addressed by the owner. I would highly recommend this to couples or small groups who are looking for an exclusive getaway, want to spend chill time by the pool and have the privacy of their own villa. I would not recommend this for large groups who want late night parties with waiter service and various meal or other requirements.…
What an amazing place. As soon as we arrived this place had the WOW factor. Literally. Simply the best place I've ever stayed. Villa Goa just oozes class. Everything was so luxurious but in a beautiful simple style. We were exceptionally looked after by the owner Mark and on a day to day basis by Kalpesh. Attentive and there when you need them without being in your face. The food supplies was outstanding but Mark was happy to give tips on the best places to eat and drink. Our only regret was we never took advantage of the a la carte chef who was available. The place was so tranquil we were so chilled we were horizontal. A perfect antidote to our exceptionally busy lives. A superb place to relax but close enough to bars restaurants and clubs if you need weakening up a bit. The pool and surrounding area was outstanding. I cannot rate this villa highly enough. Thank you Villa Goa, Mark and Kalpesh…
The Villa Goa is a truly marvellous find. I challenge anyone to find a more amazing Villa anywhere in Goa with such high standards, professional and efficient staff team, Beautiful rooms, grounds, pool and gardens. Mark the director couldn't have been more helpful and organised with our visit to the property and we would certainly make a return visit. Thank you to Mark and all of the staff team for making our Yoga retreat a truly magical experience.
If you are looking for a premium place to stay in Goa, look no further then The Villa Goa. The house and garden are easily the most beautiful in Goa. Being up in Assagao allows you to travel to any beach you want and then come back to true peace and luxury. The pool is gorgeous and great to jump in after a long day at the beach to cool off. The food served at The Villa Goa is delicious. I couldn't recommend The Villa Goa more- I will definitely be back!
