The hotel is clean and the rooms are big. The staff were friendly and helpful and couldn't do enough to help us with our various requests (travel advice, organising a cab etc). It is quite a way from the centre of the city although the trams and buses do run regularly and the public transport system is easy to navigate. Do be aware that if you get a travel pass from gvb (they have an app and you can get 1/2/3/4 day passes) the pass is not valid on the buses that go nearest to the hotel. The tram is only a 10 minute walk away though and easily gets you to the centre of the city. The restaurant in the hotel was only serving breakfast and there are not many restaurants etc within walking distance of the hotel. Fussia is about 10 mins away and very good (classy all-you-can-eat Japanese / Chinese / Thai food). The Grand Cafe Allsports is about 30 mins walk away, but serves amazing food, and not what you would expect from a restaurant in a sports-centre! The hotel also has an arrangement with restaurant Colijn who will deliver. The only bad thing I have to say about the hotel is something that was really outside their control - the plague of mosquitoes which invaded our room after we had the window open overnight. My husband and I were bitten very badly all over. When I asked at reception they did organise for the room to be sprayed which solved the issue, but I do think it would have been useful if there had been warning signs in the room telling people to be aware of the mosquitoes and possibly just use the air conditioning (which was very effective, I just don't like the sound of it at night) rather than opening the window..…
Good location for us, near Wagener Stadium for Hockey World Cup. Very clean, friendly staff and excellent breakfast. Gym on location and near the National Tennis Centre. About 40 minutes into centre of Amsterdam by bus. You can also rent bikes at hotel
Good, quiet location outside busy Amsterdam, free parking. Rooms are spacious & comfortable, large bathroom, 100% clean, dated decor. Staff should be trained on being friendly, pleasant and make the customer feel special. Atmosphere is quite rigid, we just made it to breakfast (9:40) as it stops at 10:00. I had been ill overnight so slept in. They were in a rush, closed the door as soon as we left. When I asked for coffees to be brought to the room, I got the comment: "just for this once then" and was told to pay at reception separately - could not be put on the bill. We had another night's stay ... You might think it is a cultural attitude, but we are both bilingual Dutch/English and I am a Dutch national. We did like the friendly African receptionist.
Good and less good points: +Location near Schuphol/ Amstelveen/ Amsterdam Zuidas + Great beds +Friendly staff +Airco that also works + Free parking + Nespresso in the room +/- Bathroom was old but separate shower with a pathetic trickle of water +/- Simple breakfast +/- Is a good bistro next door with a bowling alley... +-/ Empty minibar - Appearance is from the 1970s - Kind of half renovation with floor and new beds but the rest is old - Extremely slow internet. Are you satisfied and would you come back again? I didn't pick it myself (customer arranged it), price was good but privately I wouldn't go here.
We stayed at the hotel recently whilst visiting Amsterdam ,we found the staff very polite and helpful. We only stayed one .night wish it could have been longer the room we had was spotless large and well equipped. There is a small bar area ideal to have a relaxing drink, our breakfast was very good ,ideally located not to far from the centre of Amsterdam bout 20 mins by car,and not too far from Schiphol Airport .Would recommend a stay if going to Amsterdam set in a quiet area
Stayed at this hotel in October 2019, Hotel itself is clean and rooms are quiet nice. The staff at breakfast were very rude, told us we were not allowed to eat breakfast even thou were had paid in advanced. We were told we were only allowed to eat at a certain time as we were in a tour group. We left the tour group that morning but had paid for our breakfast. The woman closed the doors on us and basically threw us out. The breakfast the previous day was ok nothing fantastic, but enough for a light breakfast. The staff at the bar were also not attentive and making us wait for service while they attended to the locals. Ignoring the tourist. The bed and bathroom were comfortable. The hotel itself is far away from the main tourist areas and hard to get to places re: buses or transport. There is a clog making factory/farm down the road which was lovely.…
We had a couple of nights in this hotel, it is clean and cozy. The decor is nice and the rooms are very big. It is a quiet hotel and has a nice bar, which can sometimes be understaffed. I did wait a long time for service at the bar and the woman serving seemed to prefer to serve locals over foreigners, I had to but in to get served even though I had clearly been waiting the longest. The hotel was not convenient for reaching Amsterdam with public transport and was very expensive by taxi.
Treated ourselves to a junior suite for 6 nights as our daughter was joining us for some nights so that allowed great space for 3. Beautiful room ,comfy bed, well equipped and nice toiletries replenished each day. Communication prior to arrival was great and reception staff always helpful. Nice selection at breakfast and there was always easy parking for the rental car. After checkout they even contacted me about a item left in the room. Would not hesitate to recommend.
Simple hotel with spacious rooms, good beds and good food. Quiet area, wonderful place. Lots of parking around. I enjoyed this surprise: fair rates and yet you’re in Amstelveen. A place i intend to come back to.
I stayed at the Grand Hotel from August 23-26. My stay at the hotel was fantastic throughout the duration of my vacation. The hotel is located approximately 20-25 minutes from Amsterdam itself, but there is a regular bus that can be caught which takes you to Leidseplein or to Amsterdam Centraal. The hotel was very clean and I found the staff very friendly and willing to help. Personally I was a little disappointed regarding the breakfast – I love coffee with my breakfast, but I couldn’t find the coffee easily, however, that might have just been me, especially considering that I was by myself. On the Sunday, I had breakfast delivered to my room for €3.50 it was well worth it, but I couldn’t eat it all. There is a bistro close to the hotel, but I didn’t try this, but I was told by other visitors that the bistro was very good – sadly there wasn’t much else close to the hotel, eating wise. I’d certainly return again as I totally enjoyed my stay; for me it wasn’t a long enough stay, so maybe another day, or so would have certainly been good to have seen much more of the area. …
