We booked to stay in a fan cottage for 3 nights via the hotel’s own website which had a rate of 900THB per night which seemed better than that on booking engines.

First impressions were that it’s a large ‘resort’ right on the beach next to where the speedboat ferries dock and adjacent to Walking Street which is 5 minutes walk away (though we heard no noise from it). There are a range of rooms- cottages with a/c and a block of rooms which also had a/c. There are about a dozen fan only cottages at the rear of the complex. Ours was rustic but clean with intact insect screens and a large bed. The bathroom was half open which was good for drying towels etc. All cottages have a balcony, ours was shaded by trees which kept the room cool though the fan worked well too and we actually slept better than we had in a/c rooms. Only downside to the room was no fridge. It had an old fashioned TV but who watches TV anyway on a Thai island?!

Breakfast was included in the price- buffet style with Thai and western dishes. It was nothing special but eatable and enough to put you on until lunch.

We liked Ko Lipe and were happy with the room so decided to stay for an extra 2 nights and that’s where we had problems. Again we booked on the hotel website and received a confirmation. We then received an email in broken English which we interpreted as saying the fan bungalows were all full and we would be ‘upgraded’ to an a/c room. We replied that we were already in the room so it would make more sense to upgrade someone else.

After getting no response we attempted to clarify the situation with reception. I don’t speak Thai so can’t criticise people for not speaking a foreign language but when dealing with mostly European guests you would expect at least one member of staff to have the basics of English. Unfortunately not. We ended up in a confusion of Google translate messages with a teenage girl who was clearly sick (coughing, sneezing, red eyes and nose) and shouldn’t have been at work. I ended up speaking to ‘a manager’ on the mainland by phone but still couldn’t get any sense from them. Eventually we resorted to replying by email and were eventually told we could stay in the same room.

You can go into any tour operator on Walking Street and find staff who speak excellent English. Why the hotel are unable to find staff with foreign language skills is beyond me. My guess is they are employing cheap intern labour from mainland tourism schools which is fine for basic check in and out but they should have at least one person who can communicate with guests if there’s a problem.

The majority of rooms seemed empty when we stayed, the exception being the fan rooms which were very good value and always seemed booked out. Maybe the hotel could look at a way of turning off the a/c in some of the bungalows and selling them at a fan room rate?

In summary, we were happy with the location of the hotel, the facilities and the room. The stay was spoilt somewhat by a disorganised booking system and patchy service.

We were sceptic after reading all the negative reviews. No regrets in chosing this hotel! Great price for what you get. Just 5min walk from the immigration and smack next to the Walking street. The resort has sand all over which gives it a real beachy holiday vibe, together with all the wooden cabins. LOTS of mosquitos!! We booked the deluxe room and had our bungalow right infront of the swimming pool. It was really small, would not recommend this for more than 2 people. It has a tiny outdoor back room to dry your towels etc. The electricity went out a couple of times, this needs some attention.
The pool is big and clean, it can use more beds/chairs and a poolbar :) The beach is beautiful, but busy. The beach on the other side of Walking street is much better for swimming and snorkeling.
The staff was friendly but their English was really bad which made it hard to communicate. I tried calling and emailing pre-travel and they did not even respond.
Despite the negative, we really enjoyed our stay here. We stayed in Andaman resort last year, and had a better Koh Lipe experience at Varin.

Great location which next to the custom & walking street. The fan room is very basic with CRT TV 🙄 and it is very warm during the day even with the fan on. If you are staying in the room during day, suggest you pick the AC room. Many locals stay in the resort, maybe the budget fits the local & budget traveller like me. The breakfast is mostly same everyday, I stay for 4 nights, I knew it. And you better the there around 8am or else nothing much left after. The breakfast is just to fill the stomarch if you are not fussy eater or else get your own. I guest it is 'you get what you paid type of accomodation' and I saw people yelled at the receptionist that they didn't replenish the drinking water to thier room. Well, that's true, they didn't bring water to my room too so I bought the water from 711. However, I think if you walk to the reception everyday to remind them, they will do it for you maybe. The distance between recep to roos are at least 300m or more.

The hotel prices at Ko Lipe have gone up a lot...but not at this place. It was very reasonably priced for a beach side resort on Pattaya beach, with very good breakfast included. Staff was polite and courteous. Next time will be back for longer.

We booked a room as air superior.
This is a very large hotel with many rooms and many prices, some rooms are fair far, but the accommodation is available for people who can't walk far.
Very bad. The worst I've ever seen.
The room is very old. Not cleaning the room. The staff spoke from bad. Breakfast is like in the cafeteria.

We were expecting better with the price we paid for our stay!

Location is great, next to the walking street and right on the beach which was perfect for us! Didn’t use the pool as there was only a few beds which were always taken and it was mainly families by the pool. There was plenty of land and would have been good to have another pool to relax, but instead we were satisfied with the beach everyday.

Breakfast wasn’t all that, most of it was cold and once it was gone, it was gone. Even the drinks of juice weren’t topped up. So it made us so angry seeing all the waste left by other people that us or someone else could have had.. bit disappointing when you pay for it!

When we checked in we weren’t told where to go and didn’t realise just how big the place was so we were walking round all the bungalows in the heat with our heavy bags trying to find ours but was in the complete wrong place! Saw some people getting driven in buggies to their rooms but not sure why we weren’t offered this?

Rooms were nice and big with AC, fridge and tv working fine. WiFi was okay but kept disconnecting and having to type the details in multiple times. Had multiple mosquitos getting in, not sure if it was through the gaps in the windows? Could also hear everything going on outside and we woke up early a couple of mornings to a screaming baby next door. Also have to ask before a certain time if you want your room cleaning.

I think Koh Lipe is quite expensive for accommodation but for the price we paid perhaps there could have been somewhere better. The island is so small anyway so wouldn’t have took long to walk to the beach.

The hotel is overpriced for what it offers. The rooms are poorly maintained, and we had open electricity wires in the closet.

They charge extra per hour for the use of the indoor play room, which was nowhere indicated before booking.

The staff is rude and unfriendly. When I asked to speak to the manager I was told the manager wasn’t on site and couldn’t be contacted as he doesn’t have a phone.

Pros:
You get what you pay for which is okay.
It is 20 meters to the beach.
The rooms are clean.
It is connected to the Walking Street so abundance of food and choices.

Cons:
Some rooms don’t have airconds and they don’t tell you so when it is warm it is very warm with one fan.
The toilet had no flush we had to scoop water.
The front desk misinformed us regarding breakfast and we were told we needed to pay. We missed breakfast and found out when checking out we didn’t need to pay.

Breakfast makes you sick.
No hygiene.
Rude ladies at the reception.
Air conditioning in the room stinks.
The whole complex is full of rubbish.
The beach in front of the hotel is unusable because of all the boats.

We left the hotel after 3 nights. Unfortunately, we had already paid for 8 nights. A request for at least a partial refund for the remaining 5 nights was laughed at. Madame Queen at the reception also said that she was not interested in customer satisfaction. No managers available. Emails to the hotel were also only answered modestly. Avoid the hotel

The breakfast was good, there was a lot to choose from and it was good. The staff speak no English button. The electricity went out and no one could fix it, had to change rooms 3 times without compensation. The beds were very hard and dirty in small places in the rooms. Right on the beach so good location. The pool was good and fresh, the sunbeds had no cushions and the pillows were not fresh.

I'm not sure about the price will be the same or not because some time the price is change upon the date you go. Anyway, I went on March, I stayed in an Air-condition Garden view room with SINGLE bed. It was 2000 Baht per night plus 500 per night for an extra bed. All price including breakfast. But the resort will require 50% deposit for your booking. Hope you will enjoy the trip and welcome to Thailand :))
