Spent my first 2 nights in Japan at Takada. Here are my reflections; 1. Takada is about 10km from Shingu so a bit isolated, I would suggest you get to Shingu no later than 5pm or so to be picked up by their shuttle bus and lovely driver. We stayed here while hiking the Kumano Kodo trail and could not get accomodation in Koguchi and this was recommended. We were one of only a couple of guests (out of season?) so it was nice to have the extensive baths pretty much to ourselves. The food was a bit indifferent and lonely eating in the large dining hall. When you enter the Takata Green Land hotel and onsen, there is an area to remove shoes and to put on slippers like most Japanese places. There are both traditional Japanese-style rooms and Western-style rooms available, but I really dont know why anyone would want western accommodations in such a place.
