After our first day on the Kumano Kodo and having been soaked to the bone by rain we stepped into the warm lobby of the Takahara and were promptly greeted by the staff and given towels to dry. We were quickly checked in and offered a room to hang our wet clothes and dry our hiking boots. The onsite onsen...

This is a lovely minshuku with excellent food. The rooms overlook the valley from a high perch. Evenings and early morning views are just beautiful. The rooms are cozy and adequately furnished, but not fancy. En suite toilet is included, but there are mens and womens onsens. Dinner was a multi-dish taste treat and the "maitre de" was worth the...

Stayed in early November for one night while on Kumanokodo. The service was well beyond expectations and the cosy feel of the place, combined with great people, made it a great night. There are some small things to take note of, although this can be applied to all accomodations along Kumanokodo, such as bathrooms in-room only have toilets and guests...

This place is absolute paradise. From the first phone call, they were so kind and welcoming. I arrived on the bus and Masa came right up to the front door of the bus and knew my name! He kindly drove me up the mountain and would not let me carry a bag. So sweet! The room is stunning. It is...

Quite an impressive place after a full days hike. The staff are friendly and helpful. Judging by the other comments about this establishment it certainly has built a good reputation. I can endorse those comments.

My friend and I spent just one night in this wonderful place set in the mountains at the beginning of the Kumano Kodo track. The room was lovely with an amazing view on the valley. In The morning you can see the clouds surrounding the peaks. Dinner and breakfast were japanise style and delicious. The onsen inside the property really...

We stayed here after our first day on the Kumano Kodo and was impressed at all of it! After a really exhausting first day, we were welcomed warming and led to a gorgeous room overlooking the misty mountains. We soaked in the lovely baths and relaxed in our room until dinner. And then dinner.... Whoa! It was so very good....

We arrived late afternoon and were met by friendly staff. The rooms were clean and comfortable with spectacular views of the mountains. The dinner was delicious Japanese food which we enjoyed with sake. There is also an onsen within the hotel

The owner ! Warm and welcoming, great sense of humor, incredible meals from traditional Japanese to delectable fashion, there aren't enough superlatives for how he crafts the incredible environment. Views to die for, mists rolling over the hilltops, beautiful scenery to match the incredible service. We will make the extra effort to come back !

Stayed here as an overnight while hiking the Kumano Kodo. After a 4 kilometer stretch that required 2.5 hours (300 meter elevation gain in less than a kilometer), I was tired, hot, sweaty, and ready to accept any place with a dry bed and a cold beer. Kiri no Sato Takahara was so muh more than I had hoped for....
