We stayed here on the first night of our trek of the Kumano Kodo after hiking up from Takajiri-oji. What a wonderful start! The hosts are very friendly and helpful and speak excellent English. The view is breathtaking, particularly in the evening and early morning. Our meals, both on this occasion and when we returned after finishing the Kumano Kodo,...

We stayed here on the first night of our Kumano Kodo walk. It was delightful. The onsen is lovely and has great views, as do the bedrooms. The owner and staff are warm and welcoming. We were especially grateful for the care they took in ensuring we got fully vegetarian meals (no meat, no fish) Highly recommended.

I arrived here from a two hour walk in torrential rain. I was soaked and had no idea what awaited me here. Immediately after walking through the main door, I was greeted by a warm welcome, a towel and a hot cup of tea. After drying off, I was shown to my room - warm, spacious, with my own toilet...

Lovely room, serene view, excellent food and above average service. The perfect (nearly) end to our second Kumano Kodo walk. It's worth walking from east to west just to have this waiting for you on the second last night. Highly recommended.

We stayed here the first night of our Kumano Kudo walk. It is very welcoming and cosy...think alpen lodge - log fires and wooden structure. The view from the restaurant, bath and bedroom is enchanting, a great place to relax and take in the dreamy mountain views. The food served was filling and very tasty, we also opted to try...

A hotel with only 8 rooms. There are Japanese style tatami mat rooms (preferred) or western style rooms. Ensuite toilet but communal bath. Every room faces the Mountain, great view. The rooms were spacious, love them. Upon arrival, we were welcome with warm Yuzu tea. Dinner served by the owner Jian was excellent.. sashimi, local veg, mini shabu shabu. So...

We stayed here on our first day of hiking the Kumano Kodo. Absolutely great food and service. The staff are very helpful, the place very clean, and the hot spring bath is heavenly. I highly recommend it!

We stayed on the first night of trekking the Kumano Kodo Trail. Very hospitable, and the food was excellent. The rooms are generous in size - ours had a stunning view across the mountains. We would certainly return if travelling nearby.

After our first day on the Kumano Kodo and having been soaked to the bone by rain we stepped into the warm lobby of the Takahara and were promptly greeted by the staff and given towels to dry. We were quickly checked in and offered a room to hang our wet clothes and dry our hiking boots. The onsite onsen...

This is a lovely minshuku with excellent food. The rooms overlook the valley from a high perch. Evenings and early morning views are just beautiful. The rooms are cozy and adequately furnished, but not fancy. En suite toilet is included, but there are mens and womens onsens. Dinner was a multi-dish taste treat and the "maitre de" was worth the...
