We have stayed at the Doubletree Westerwood many times, and it is still one of our favourite hotels. We returned for a 2 x night stay at the end of staycation where we had stayed in 3 other parts of Scotland, and this was the perfect relaxing end to our perfect holiday. Upon arrival, checking in was a breeze, I am so sorry I did not see your name badge, but the most lovely girl, with curly dark hair and glasses, checked us in and was just such a genuinely lovely chatty girl! Thank you for the warmest welcome. We had drinks in the bar a were served by Bailey and Mia, two lovely young members of staff, nothing was to much trouble for these two gems. Rooms were large, clean and just what we needed, on leaving on day of departure, a few housekeepers busy as ever stripping rooms even popped their heads out to say good morning and have a lovely day! We love this hotel and are already planning our next visit. Thank you again Westerwood, we will see you soon!…
I had a superb 4 night stay here! I had just been to DoubleTree Dunblane, which I've done a separate review for but this place wins hands down! Staff is amazing, from reception through to bar and restaurant. The gin was great and the food was very enjoyable. I had a lovely, spacious King room with a super comfortable bed and squishy pillows. I wasn't feeling very well but everyone looked after me and I enjoyed my stay. I didn't use the spa facilities but they seemed very popular. This hotel is worth a visit. Friendly staff and comfortable accommodation. Give it a try! Thanks to everyone.
I was having a nice relaxing working week at the hotel until i was verbally abused, insulted and lock out of the hotel by a member of the hotel staff in front of guests and staff. No apology was forthcoming. Very scary. Would not recommend.
As a silver honors member, I have stayed at my fair share of Hilton hotels and although the room was clean tidy and reasonably priced, the meal was truly awful. It was as if we had been presented with kids meals that cost the best part of £40. My wife’s Halloumi Caesar salad featured Tesco-like baby leaf salad, a basic dressing and 4 halloumi sticks tossed on top - no croutons, no parmesan and no anchovies (as described on the menu). We complained and the supervisor returned with another version of a Caesar salad that still wasn’t exactly as described and definitely not worth £16. My meal wasn’t much better. The restaurant really need to up their game. As we arrived quite late, I was a little disappointed that the bar closed at 11pm too.
So having stayed here countless times both under Q hotels and now Double tree Hiltons & having previously reviewed this hotel & Spa I needed to post a newer review after my latest stay. Booking, payment and pre-arrival could not be faulted, they even have a digital room key on an app that you can use to save you any hassle at reception only bad point about the seamless process is you still need to go to reception to book your meal times for breakfast & evening meal which to be honest took two minutes and the receptionist was lovely & very helpful. Room have not change since my first stay many moons ago under Q hotels, there bog standard same colour schemes, layouts and amenities. All of which are fine & dandy for the a hotel, I do have to note although the rooms are cleaned daily, the bathrooms especially in and around the showers have a built up you would see in any shower used constantly like those one are but it’s not a major issue the one thing that bothered me about my stay this time was my room didn’t have a fridge which the room was supposed to have the staff did leave my complementary drinks in a nice warm cupboard which was the thought that counted. Bar was a pretty standard hotel bar empty during the day except for the golfers who have either finished there round or about to start it. Mobbed at night with not enough seating for the number of guest & rooms. Prices for me have steadily gone up which you always the case with hotel bars but there are some items that this hotel charge over the top for there cocktails menu £9 a cocktail is a bit steep, there is also no consistency with regards to which staff members using the same glasses, amounts of ice or mixers for the cocktails also the soft drinks £4:15 for a half pint at the main bar, ordered a pint of Diet Pepsi for my evening meal got charged the same. Staff generally where pleasant, helpful and worked hard they are from what we saw with the exception of the supervisors, managers and reception staff all a very young bunch so had there moments or skiving which we all do but for a more conservative crowd prob best to keep it hidden while doing it lol Food - this is unfortunately where it all goes pear shaped - we stayed on a dinner, B&B deal which apparently a lot of folk had done there is an evening meal allocation of £28 which is generous how ever the meal pricing g on the menu is designed so that no combination would allow you to have 3 course without having to subsidise or pay the balance this in itself not a big deal just thought it’s a wee bit mince when other hotel chains that offer similar make it so you can enjoy 3 courses. We where seated in time and told about an unfortunate item of the menu that wasn’t available which was fine, we ordered our starters & mains promptly (having seen the menu earlier) 2 diners for soup 2 for the hotels meatball starter (which having stayed before the diners where excited about) our server after taking the order approached the table to tell us that at 8pm in the middle of dinner service they had run out of meatballs and could offer only 1 portion. 1 or our diners offered to swap to soup instead no big deal out came lukewarm soup in a a tiny bowl and one very small bit of bread with butter the bread was so small it took less than half or the small sealed butter portion to butter it this for us this was a big disappointment as we have ordered soup before and was given a generous portion with a bread basket on the table, it doesn’t stop there out comes the meatball starter (now previously which we have photos of on instagram the meatball starter came on a long thin rectangular plate there was several meatballs 6/8 large with an simple decoration on the plate of different vegetables and sauces all of which went amazing with the meatballs) this one was on the same plate with the same decorative assemble and 3 of the smallest meatballs I have ever seen not even canned meatballs are this small and the chef obviously had done there bets to fill as much of the plate as possible to hide these… shocking scenes. We didn’t complain as there was already enough guests doing that about different things, we where hungry and the guest said they would t eat a large starter anyway, doesn’t change the fact the cost has gone up and the portion size way down. We then sat for 1:15 minutes with NO ONE coming near us, no server to check on us, no server for drinks order, no one to explain about the wait and the whole time people where walking in being seated and fed and leaving we hadn’t even had a second drink. I believe if not for the fact that we where seated at the door and the supervisor posted there taking flak of numerous guest saw us looking at watches and listening to the ongoing complaints before she herself went to the kitchen and came back to offer apologies and to tell us we would be served next we would have been sitting there at 10:30 with no meal. The mains came out in dribs & drabs two burger mains came first with non of the accompanying items then the 2 chicken supreme mains all of the mains where not worth the wait or the cost. Both burgers where served on soggy buns that fell apart, the onion rings where so unrecognisable that if not for biting through the soggy exterior you wouldn’t know it was onion. The chicken was so small that it looked like 1 chicken breast halves and put on separate plates and it was so dry that we had to order a sauce for it to make it edible. We didn’t bother with desert and asked for the bill. Breakfast wasn’t much better, it’s claimed to be a Scottish breakfast…. Only thing Scottish being served was the haggis it’s your typical buffet style help yourself breakfast stuff is held in hot cabinets until needed then flung out the sausages looked half cooked, the bacon was bulk cooked and stuck together and everything else was lukewarm. Really disappointed with it as the food here was always amazing and they did do a full Scottish breakfast square sausage, black pudding the proper deal now it’s just not worth it. The health suite and spa I can’t fault was very busy so there was a build up in the sauna and spa but the gym was great, changing areas where clean and there was towels provided. Only point for the hotel or health suite staff was there was in this occasion a stag party staying and they kind of ruined the feel with there drunken carry on, now am not saying don’t have fun but there was kids in the swimming pool and these lot where clearly to drunk to be in swimming there also isn’t a life guard on duty so it’s a claim waiting to happen. Check out was fast and easy and the hotel grounds, car parking, walk ways and golf course all looked very well maintained.…
Stayed here end of may with my partner for his birthday was a DBB plus spa treatment deal for 2. Great price and lovely hotel. Check in staff were really nice and our room was immaculate. The spa area was lovely. We both had treatments and both thoroughly enjoyed them. I literally fell asleep during my facial! Pool area was great to chill and relaxation room was so relaxing I didn’t want to leave! Staff had left a wee note of happy birthday for my partner with a bottle of rose! Lovely touch and was very impressed. Robes and slippers on bed ready for our visit to the spa. Reception staff were friendly and helpful to direct us where to go. During our stay there was an event on in the ballroom. They were in fancy dress and very entertaining. Although rowdy we still had a great sleep. Only downside of our visit was in restaurant. There was no atmosphere and staff didn’t seem as friendly. I ordered the steak pie however I asked for it to be changed as it tasted like something bought in - gravy inside pie was tasteless and not enjoyable. They changed it right away but I think there needs a clear description on menu. I had soup which stated on menu with sour dough bread. I got a cold stale underbaked mini roll of some sort! Table behind us returned their catsu curry dishes as they were cold. They were told they would receive fresh meals. They didn’t it was just heated up - obvious due to the short time taken and also the chicken missing that had already been tried. The waitress in charge also seemed to argue with customers when they queried that the meals weren’t fresh!!! It left an odd atmosphere. We moved to bar area for a couple drinks and staff were lovely. The manager seemed eager to close bar early as they didn’t want the event guests spilling over to the bar once their function was over. We overheard this convo. The side fire exit door was also wedged open making it really cold. We just went to our room. Had a great sleep! In morning we went for breakfast. The room was full of the event guests from night before. There was a lonnnnnnnng wait for hot food items being re stocked at the hot buffet area. When so many guests are staying they should account for this. It spoiled our morning as after breakfast we then felt rushed to leave the restaurant rather than chill with coffee and pastry. They were clearing up and putting everything away and tidying around us - even though the delay was due to us waiting so long for the hot breakfast. Check out staff were lovely and friendly. I have the honours app so also got our bill online prior to check out. I had visited here before and was fab. If I came along again it would be for a spa day and not visit the restaurant.…
Its a good hotel. Free parking with plenty spaces. Friendly staff. Room is clean and comfortable. We are disappointed that there was no bath tub in the room. All the other doubletree hotels we stayed in, had bath tub.. also the breakfast items were limited. A lot less items than any other doubletree hotels. We were booked for massages the next day. It was excellent. We would highly recommend the Spa.
Where to start. Room was fine, toilet was very small with door opening inwards made it very difficult to get in and out. Dinner in the hotel was terrible. 5 staff members stood chatting no wine list given missing items on our orders asked if we were ready to order 30 seconds after being given our menus not even a drinks order taken. The food was average. Would not book or stay here again. Only positive was using the pool which was nice.
Beautiful and modern social area’s including bar and reception but although clean the rooms are very dated, fixtures and fittings need replaced as looking tired and general decoration to bring up to standard. Corridors full of chipped paint on walls and skirting boards. When spending that kind of money per night I expected better.
Stayed during while on a business trip. Hotel is absolutely perfect. Beautiful surroundings with incredible facilities. The spa/pool are a very nice area with a few pools and jacuzzi. Floor bit slippy but aslong as you go slow, you good. Lockers where also slightly hard to use as the digital locks kept messing up and saying code was wrong when it wasnt. Rooms are very clean with a very comfy bed and got a good nights sleep. Breakfast was also very good and it was self service which i like! Overall a fantastic stay, cant wait to return!
