We had a perfect long stay in the hut. It is a lovely hut nearby Ikenodaira ski resort, you can walk to the lift within 15mins and ride your snowboard back. There's a standalone dry room beside the hut. The rooms are tidy and clean. The bath and shower function perfectly, hot water is sufficient. You can find all cookers you would need in the big kitchen. Highly recommend it to all snowboard/ski lovers!
I booked it last minute and this was pretty much the only place with a room to stay. It was a shared bunk room with 4 bunk beds. The room can fit 8 people and the room is not big for 8 people but definitely great value for budget travelers. Neil is a very friendly host and he will provide guidance to your inquires. The host didn't ask for passport to check-in and all the guests were very nice and friendly and I was able to make a few good friends from different countries. Breakfast is included and it was a good time to make friends as everyone got up early to head up to the mountain. There is a shack outside to put your skis and equipment and it is unlocked but I didn't feel a problem leaving my stuff there. There aren't much space to store your personal stuff in the shared bunk room so I would recommend your lock your valuable stuff in your suitcase. Having a car would be huge benefit as all mountains, except for one, is not walking distance but I think Neil arranges a group run by his car if you need help. I had problem locating it in my car's GPS but google map is fine. It is about 2 hours drive from Niigata airport and around 5,500 yen for toll fee.…
We loved our stay at Mountain Hut, Neil, Tayler and the team were so helpful, friendly and a good laugh! Incredible views from the private room. So many great mountains in the area and loved how quiet / untouched the slopes were!!
We had an amazing week at Mountain Hut Myoko, after a shaky start to the season with marginal snow and warm temps, the Japow finally arrived just in time for a couple of epic powder days. Tayler, Neil, Kate, Kai and Arthur were exceptional hosts and treated us like family. They went out of their way to make sure we had a great time and experienced all there was to experience in the area. The hut is cosy, warm and very homely, with like-minded skiers and boarders sharing stories over a beer in the evenings. Our room was tidy and very comfortable, best futon style duvet I've ever slept in! Options for dinner were around a 10 min walk away, with tasty ramen and all the best Japanese dishes just down the road. 3 different Onsen were also nearby, perfect to soak in after a big day up on the hill. Overall it was heartwarming to stay with such passionate people who genuinely want every guest to have the most memorable experience skiing/riding in Japan. We'll be back!…
My father, brother and I recently completed a week stay at the MHM - and what a treat it was! Neil and Tayler are just awesome hosts. Full stop. They go out of their way to accommodate guests and ensure everyone is taken care of. While the snow wasn't ideal at the start of our stay Neil made sure to assist guests with getting to the best snow that was available. I rarely leave reviews or buy souvenirs but I'm happy to promote the MHM and I wear a t-shirt I bought from them with pride! Great work Neil and Tayler!
Had a great trip to Myoko in end Dec, made special by Neil and Tayler despite the lack of powder (just our luck!). They're super friendly peeps and made our entire stay very comfortable. We even had to call Neil one night to help us because our car got caught in snow 🙈 The hut is very cosy and perfect for everyone. We saw families, couples, individuals there during our stay. We stayed in the room with an ensuite toilet but truth be told, the shared toilets are so nice that we'd go back and stay without the ensuite toilet! Looking forward to returning & hopefully get some Myoko famous yuki this time 😊
Unbelievable hosts, location and boarding. What more can I say, the best ski holiday I’ve ever had. The breakfast is to die for and those super fluffy doonas!! Heaven!! Thank you Mountain Hut, we’ll be back
I'm just done with an amazing stay at the Mountain Hut. Neil and Taylor are such nice and friendly people. They made everything to make my stay as best and easy as possible. Neil picked me up at the station and then took me to the different resorts of Myoko. They also know pretty wel the mountains and gave me some great tips about the different lines to ski. Last but not least, Neil is a great chief and cooked me huge and delicious breakfast. The best way to start with a mountain day ! A perfect mix between the legendary japanese kindness and the ease to talk with english native people. I already plan to go back into the Hut for my next stay in Japan and highly recommend the place !
Perfect Location, access to 5 resorts to ride, hike out & ride back to front door, rooms are spacious, clean, quality linen, lot's of hot water, kitchen got everything you need, The HOT Breakfast is made with lot's of love. Daily morning catch up on best place to ride and local inside info is just one of the many things Taylor and Neil will provide.
I could not recommend Mountain Hut enough! Tay & Neil are the most beautiful & caring souls and are just absolute legends! The facilities are incredible and always so neat, tidy & warm with heaps of space. The snow in Myoko is amazing and you pretty much have all the powder to yourselves here. Ikenotaira is only a 5min walk from your door (so you can snowboard/ski in powder all day & board back to the front door). Breakfast is amazing (Neil is a gun in the kitchen), and there’s plenty of space to cook up a storm in the kitchen/store your food. The bathrooms also have the best Japanese style baths! The location is amazing and only a small drive to local shops. I can’t wait to visit again (possibly for an entire season!)
