This camp site is very well situated and only a short walk into town, which in it's self very interesting, with the foundrey for bell making and copper & brass artefacts in a variety of shops. The camp its self is well laid out and plots are a good size.

We found this campsite by chance and cannot fault it. The location is perfect for being able to visit the town and all its shops, restaurants and of course the Bell Foundry. The new owners Alain and Isabelle made us so welcome and we have no hesitation in highly recommending this campsite. We had a meal in the campsite bar...

This site is underated in the ACSI handbook, new owners are making great improvements to the camping ground. The husband and wife team try really hard to make visitors welcome, and speak good English. They have spent a great deal of money in updating facilities.

We have stayed here en route to and from the Cherbourg ferry several times over the years but not recently. It looked a little unkempt (hedges needed trimming, which was being attended to while we were there) and the washblock in the middle of the site was small and rather tired but clean, with plenty of hot water. But behind...

good points: ▪ swimming pool is nice ▪ Lady on reception speaks good English Bad points: ▪ They don't wash the bottom bed sheets. (they told us) ▪ You have to follow a strict cleaning process at the end - they don't explain this in English, and we only got told at the end that we will not be getting...

Such a great find. The town is lovely, lots of history, little side streets, one of the last bell foundries in France, great shops with excellent selection of copper and brass items. But then, that's what the town is named for. Campsite is centrally located , has great facilities, level pitches, good sanitation block. Free WiFi in bar / reception...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The campsite ‘Les Chevaliers de Malte’ is an ideal place to stay overnight while you discover the idyllic medieval copper town of Villedieu-les-Poeles, named after its pan makers and coppersmiths. Despite of its small size, this town is steeped in history and well worth visiting through for instance a (guided) town discovery walk, temporary exhibitions or the local museums, like there is the Copper Workshop and the Bell Foundry, which are still in use today. And this country town is still a showcase of a long tradition of arts and craftsmanship, as it is actually classed as ‘Ville et Metiers d’Arts’. Villedieu-les-Poeles was also the first French commandery of the Order of the Knights of Malta. And every four years it organizes the ‘Grand Sacre’ procession, in which an official delegation of the Order of Malta is present. In 2016 this traditional ceremony will take place on Sunday May 22th. As the campsite is located near the center of the town, the many local shops, bars, restaurants, museums, the cinema and the busy weekly market (on Tuesdays) are within 5 minutes walking distance. While camping in the rolling hills of Normandy countryside, there is also the gorgeous bay of the Mont St.Michel to explore, as well as Avranches, Granville and its beaches, the beautiful Zoo of Champrepus and many other pleasant attractions just a few kilometers away. And for those who love a sportive holiday, the local tourist office has described walking and cycling tours nearby. But also for day trips this campsite is an ideal place for a longer stay, as a calm base for exploring all wonderful destinations like the Mont St. Michel, Bayeux with its famous tapestry, Caen with its art museum and wonderful abbeys, the D-Day landing beaches, St.Malo, Rennes, ‘iles-Chausey’ or the Anglo-Norman islands for example. You can stay in your caravan, camping car or tent on large grass pitches. You can also rent one of our mobile homes. The campsite has the following amenities: There is a heated open air swimming pool, a snackbar, a sports ground and you can play billiards, table tennis or darts. For the children there is an inflatable playground, and for the very little ones there is a playground with a swing, slide and sandpit. For all campers electric points (6 or 16A) are available. The drinking water and wastewater points as well as a chemical toilet disposal point are included. And there is a free WiFi connection in the bar area. New in 2016: for our holiday campers: possibility to buy a fishing license for freshwater salmon and trout fishing, as the campsite is situated near the riverbanks of the ‘Sienne’. Isabelle and Alain will receive you with a warm welcome! ° On July 4th 2016 the “Tour de France” will cross Villedieu-les-Poeles! ... more   less
