We were on a family trip to the lake district and stopped here for lunch. They stopped serving mains food at 2 so said they had soup and sandwiches. We ordered 4 baguettes and a cheese sandwich with 5 glasses of pop. I got half a glass as they were tiny bottles which barely touched the glass. £47.50 later and...

We enjoyed our starter and pudding which we ate in convivial company, in a traditional bar. My husband said the scotch egg was the best he had ever tasted, the yolk still soft and it had a well flavoured case. I chose local goats cheese with rhubarb served and a well dressed salad with a broad selection of salad leaves. Our...

We recently stayed for 3 nights at The Pheasant with our friends. We were delighted to find that Inn was situated off the main road, down a drive, consequently there was no traffic noise. There is a very pretty garden where you can relax, whenever the weather allows. The Inn, itself has not been overly modernised, and both couples had...

I am outraged that by charging £6 for a G&T therefore about £5 for a shot of Gordon's Gin, I was blatantly ripped off! My trust in expecting a reasonable price was blatantly betrayed and thrown back in my face without conscience or remorse. Here is the math - about 20 shots to a litre that's £100 for a £15...

Gutted! Heard really good things about this place. Booked for mothers day, when I phoned to book I explained my 7yr old daughter would be coming and did they do child prices, I was told no but there would be plenty for her and I wouldn't have to pay for her. Waited ages to be served, took to our table...

Excellent 3 night stay my first and the Family's 3rd return visit. Despite the rain and two dogs we found plenty to do and had a super time. The friendly staff that go the extra mile just top this beautiful atmospheric Hotel. A worthwhile mention to all the staff and special mention to Steven and Julie and the young lass...

Made a booking for the High Tea for the family and bottle of Montrachet for me on the basis I would be despatched to the Bar with my Jack Russell and so I thought I would spend a comfortable hour. However the Hotel sweeps aside such old fashioned customs and I was advised that I and my Jack could join...

Our second visit was a spur of the moment stay. We got a good deal late on Sunday afternoon and were not disappointed. The Bistro was very busy which is always a good sign on Sunday evening. The food was excellent and our room was superb. The breakfast is one of the best i have ever had.

We went with friends for a long weekend, we stayed in the Grizedale room, very comfortable. We stayed two nights bed and breakfast and ate in the Bistro Saturday and Sunday night. The breakfast choice is excellent. The bistro menu is very good but only one choice for vegetarians. The bar serves a good selection of drinks and the real...

We stayed for a weekend break with friends. Throughout our short stay the staff were excellent - welcoming, polite and helpful. The lounges in the hotel are comfortable with lots of seating. The room we stayed in was clean but it was somewhat tired, with a couple of chairs which had seen better days, some wallpaper which was becoming detached,...
