This hotel is magnificently located in the mountains. We had one of the en suite rooms, which were clean, modern & the bathroom was very good. The stairs outside our room were extremely noisy when anyone used them. The shared bathroom just down the hall meant that there was a continuous opening and closing of doors. There were a group...

Wonderful hotel in the heart of the alps! Far away from everything but served by a bus frequently from Meiringen, close to Interlaken. Good possibilities for hikes, amazing dinner! Specially recommend the Schaftal / Tannensee hike. Very nice hotel owner!

A great spot at the head of a mountain valley, reachable by bus or over a variety of beautiful trails. It's far enough back into the hills and old enough that it has aspects of quaintness, but everything still works nicely and you're well cared for.

Thank you very much. We care about the Building, built in 1892. We keep certain things the old way, but have also modern elements like washrooms for your convenience. We'd love to have you as our guests again. Best regards Hotel Engstlenalp Family Immer

I stayed at this hotel while hiking between Engelberg and Meiringen. Walking over the Jochpass, you can see the hotel as you approach from above. The view is fantastic. I had a simple single room with shared shower and toilet. The room was fairly large, simple for comfortable and extremely clean (to be frank, I have never encountered a dirty...

Dear Andreanne Thank you very much for the fantastic description of your trip and the compliments about the hotel. We love it when our guests enjoy the view and the beautiful silence at night. If you happen to be here when the moon is not out you can see all the stars very clear, as well as the Milky Way....

I stayed one night at this beautiful hotel on a walking tour. It is replete with wood panelling and period furniture, but few rooms, if any, have en-suite facilities. The breakfast and evening meal were excellent and the staff were friendly and considerate. The view from the front windows and terrace is stunning. The room I had was basic but...

Dear Mr Maxton Thank you very much for your nice words. Yes you are right: we only have 6 modern rooms with en-suite facilities. All the other rooms are nostalgic rooms, built in 1892. We made new floors, heating and of corse new matresses and duvets and modern facilities on the floor. The rooms themselves and the furniture are mostly...

Without a doubt there can be few locations more glorious than this beautiful alp and the sensitively restored belle epoch Hotel Engstlenalp. However when we went for a meal on the terrace we were first approached by three different waitresses none of them knew which tables were theirs and had to wait for 45 minutes for our simple orders. The...

This beautiful hotel is uniquely placed on a major mountain crossing. It is accessible by car or Post Bus but to really appreciate it WALK! We crossed from Engelberg via the Jochpass. The hotel is visible from the top of the pass and it draws you on as you descend from the heights. When we walked down to Meiringen the...

We were hiking from Engelberg to Meringen and stayed here for a night in between. You can see the hotel as you come down from Jochpass, absolutely beautiful! We were thrilled to spend our first night in Switzerland here. Between five of us we had three of the heritage rooms (shared bathroom). Rooms were very affordable and spacious and the...

This is quintessential Switzerland! We stayed in the 300 yr old bunkhouse with only cold running water due to our budget, but the meals in the lovely dining room were superb, the best in our trip. Fresh trout from the Lake Engstlensee and fresh pork chop from nearby. Many APR hikers thru-hike from Engelberg to Reuti or Meirengen, but this...

This small hotel just down from Jochpass (and up from Meiringen) is a perfect location to enjoy superb views of the Gental Valley. The double rooms with showers (at least the west facing rooms) are quite roomy and comfortable. (The smaller nostalgia rooms would be OK for one person; shared shower.) There is virtually no traffic after late afternoon, so...
