I filed this review after we stayed at the La Casa di Adelina last October. However, Tripadvisor removed it, saying it might be for a different property. It is definitely for La Casa di Adelina, and you can see we stayed there when I said we did, from the photos of our booking form (personal details removed) below.
We stayed here on a bed-and-breakfast basis for two nights. Monticchiello is a old hilltop village full of character, and La case di Adelina occupies several ancient properties. Our bedroom, like the rest of the property, had been fitted out with both old and modern pieces at considerable expense. However, this is all to do with style rather than practicality. While the bed was very comfortable, the large room only had two hard chairs in it and an unsuitable light fitting above them, while there were no curtains or blinds, and the external shutters were awkward to use. The bathroom had expensive modern fittings, but was quite impractical. There was a huge basin, but it had no plug, and no shelving. The toilet had a sizeable window alongside it with no blind or shutters. The descriptions of the rooms in the property are pretentious (though this may be the fault of the translation to English).
While we were there, the proprietor, did everything, including cooking breakfast, served at a communal table. He was a charming host, but the breakfast was very limited, with bread, fruit, and some tasty cakes, but eggs were the only cooked choice
The proprietor has succeeded in providing an unusual place to stay, but it might have been better to stick to a simpler but more comfortable format
La Casa di Adelina is a family run Bed & Breakfast, and it was an absolute delightful stay!! It was clean, cozy and nestled on a Tuscan hilltop town. We stayed for a few days and thoroughly enjoyed it. The town is quaint but quite interesting to walk around, and there are plenty of nearby towns to visit as well. Francesco hosted a home cooked breakfast with a warm welcome and smile. He was always prepared to help with plans as needed. The large suite on the top floor was really nice and cozy. We felt like we were in a traditional Tuscan home. Although the bath area was a nice size, I would probably request a lower floor for tall people since the bathroom had an angled roof, but everything was so nice that we easily overlooked the angled ceiling, and focused more on the great accommodations with Tuscan view, bedroom, dining, living, foyer and kitchenette.
This charming B&B was a real find. The room was clean and comfortable and although the bathroom was dated, it was fine. Wifi was also good in our room (not the case in our next accommodation).
Francesco was possibly the nicest B&B host we've ever had. He went out of his way to look after us without being fussy and was happy to have a chat. He kindly offered the use of the kitchen for hot drinks and to top up our own water bottles, and has created a very inviting and homely living/breakfast room to relax in. His local knowledge is excellent and he took the time to draw us a map for a route which allowed us to see far more than we would have. His restaurant recommendations were spot on.
He also takes great care in providing an excellent breakfast - homemade baked goods each day were such a treat and arriving back after an evening meal to the aroma of fresh baked brioche was fabulous! The fresh fruit platter was top quality, and eggs were cooked to order.
We wouldn't hesitate to recommend La casa di Adelina for a relaxing and peaceful stay.
Fantastic B&B hosted by Francesco - charming clean and comfortable- great location in the center of the village- room was large the breakfast was outstanding - can only give this property a 5 star - the village has wonderful restaurants- a very local charm perfect for this corner of Tuscany.
La casa di Adelina Charming House is a beautiful B & B. We had only one night on our road trip north from Salerno and opted to try this B&B based on our love of Monticchiello and the tripadvisor reviews. We were so happy to have found this gem! Francesco our host was lovely and charming, he made us feel right at home and encouraged us to use the kitchen to make coffee, tea and obtain water. Our room was spotlessly clean and charming with wonderful tile floor and beautiful wooden beams. The tile in the bath was modern and lovely. Most importantly the bed was heavenly, with top quality bedding. We had the best sleep of our trip. Francesco created a delicious breakfast making brioche bread the night before and serving it in the morning filled with gelato, just a heavenly creation. Breakfast included a beautiful selection of fruit and if we had wanted he would have made eggs.
It was a lovely stay, we feel lucky to have found this wonderful B&B in Tuscany.
