This hotel lies on the eastern side of the island, in Pwani Mchangani. It has a beautiful beachfront and two pools. The hotel sits on a hill which means when walking towards the beachfront pool and restaurants, you get a wonderful view over the ocean when walking down the stairs. The resort has several different restaurants with different themes, so it suits all taste preferences. For lunch you can choose three of the different beach restaurants which offer great food. Overall, the food quality and taste was superb. The overall service was also really good, from room cleaning to restaurant staff. All staff friendly and helpful. The beach is beautiful but make sure to take a swim in the morning when the tide is in. In the afternoon the water level drops, which makes you have to walk a bit before being able to swim. The rooms were big and clean with great air conditioning.

We had a lovely time at the Dream of Zanzibar. The rooms are spacious, well cleaned and quiet. We had a few issues with our air conditioning but otherwise were happy with our room and our cleaner always left nice touches (petals on the bed, made the towels into animals etc)

The evening entertainment is varied. Some nights are better than others. Particular highlights were the acrobatics and dancers who were very impressive. The village walk was a highlight and I would highly recommend. We also went to a local beach club for a club night which was fun and we got the chance to meet other visitors at hotels nearby. We also did day trips to Stone Town, Prison Island and the National Park to see the monkeys. Mwinyi was a great help with organising things.

We had a very relaxing time round the pool and on the beach. There are two pools (the main one and a smaller 'garden' pool). Definitely go out onto the reef when the tide is out with the Masai men. It's a great experience and you see lots of different sea life (starfish, sea cucumbers etc)

The hotel hosts three themed nights where you eat around the pool or on the beach which is a really nice touch. The food is generally pretty good with a choice of bookable restaurants (Italian, Asian, African). Drinks except for premium drinks are all included in the price. Service could be slow at times in the restaurant but generally staff are friendly and enjoy chatting and getting to know guests. The service of drinks when you are round the pool is excellent.

Generally really enjoyable although evening entertainment should be mixed up now and again so that people staying for more than 2 weeks see different things.

The hotel looked perfect on the website but reality was different.
Positives first. Room was spacious and clean. Pool area, gardens and private beach were very good and well tended
Quite picturesque. Staff very friendly and efficient particularly Mohammed, the bar manager, who looked after us very well. The entertainment in the evening was varied with professional acts but subject to weather as there is no inside entertainment area. Never any problems getting a sun lounger at the beach or pool as all towels have to be handed in at the end of the day. Not eco friendly but did stop the usual reserving of loungers. Plenty of sun shades around the pool and beach.
Unfortunately more negatives than positives.
Check in was the longest wait we have experienced anywhere in the world. We arrived earlier than check in time so didn't expect our room to be ready but the briefing on the hotel did not include any plan of the hotel and we were not even told where we could get a drink while waiting.
There are 2 pool bars and a beach bar during the day but only the main pool bar in the evening. There is limited seating by the bar so if you like a pre or after dinner drink you may have to stand. Also most seating around the hotel is outside so If you experience rainy weather there is no where to go except your room or the reception area (where you can't get any sort of drink).
The beach in front of the private area is public. If you want to go walking you will be surrounded by local "guides". The only time we went on the beach and in the sea was when the tide was in and the locals were not about. Such a shame as it was really lovely otherwise.
Some public areas of the hotel are tired and need updating particularly around the souk bar (we never saw this open)
The main negative was the food. The hotel website talks about various venues for eating during the day. In the week we were there the grill on the beach appeared once. The burger and wrap place was there some days which seemed to double up as an Indian on just one day. We generally ate in the buffet but the food was very average and quality was poor. I have never seen cold meat and cheese sliced so thinly. We had better food in the middle of nowhere on safari. The gala dinner is as good as it gets and even this wasn't great.YT
In summary, this is definitely not a 5 star hotel. However, it could be great with some easy fixes. The hotel has no control over the weather but it is only designed for dry days and evenings. A dream holiday should not have to be spent in a bedroom with no mouthwatering food to look forward to.

We stayed a week at this resort and I have to admit I didn't have any problems. perfect location, very spacious rooms with a view of the fabulous ocean, very kind staff and very helpful for every request we met with extreme rapidity. the complex is very well kept the well-kept garden. cleaning of both the rooms and the swimming pool and beach restaurants very clean and well kept. food in abundance perhaps too much and for us Italians this is a very important point. I thank all the staff, and I ask the management a commendation to Ms. Maria and Mr. Noel of the buffet and Ms. Any bar pool very kind and very professional people. thank you for your hospitality

Questions & answers about the pool

Hi - we went to Dream earlier this year and absolutely loved it. I went with a group of friends, but the whole time I was there I was thinking how my kids would love it, and I do plan on taking them there when I can. There were lots of kids there and it is perfect, in my opinion, for children. The staff are incredibly helpful. There is a huge pool with a large attached children's pool which is shallow. There is an enormous selection of food and even my fussy eaters would eat very well there. We take a natural maleria preventative called Artemesia - it might be worth looking into for your child. I would say the only downside is that the beach is full of vendors constantly trying to sell you their products, but the hotel has a private beach that they cannot come on to, so walking on the beach is a bit annoying with all the vendors, but in the hotel bounds it's beautiful and peaceful. Also once you're in the sea swimming, they do not bother you. I hope your experience is as good as ours was, if you go.

Hi Daniela. Yes, you can smoke at the bars and pool area. There is a bar and recliners on the beach. You can smoke there as well. Ashtrays were provided. As a matter of choice, nobody smoked in the indoor dining areas. Hope you have a great time. Note: They provide Rooibos soap in the bathrooms and shower. This soap does not lather. You might want to carry your own.
