The rooms are really spacious and food excellent. Lots of space by the pools . Hopefully they will get their single use plastic issue sorted. We went end of session when the hotel is quiet .. for us it really is the spacious rooms and quality of the food .. perfect to unwind if that’s what you are looking for. There are loads of pools so plenty of variety. When in season there is lots of entertainment on but this is our 4th time here and when end of season things are winding down so not all the restaurants are open. Don’t come here if you want a ‘doing’ holiday but to chill and not worry about food and have a nicely furnished room (suite is a must ) then this is perfect
BEWARE LOOK IN TO THE POOLS AT NIGHT BEFORE YOU SWIM, the pools look great but when you look at the water in the dark the underwater lights show an infestation of insect lavae swimming in the pools (not so visible in day light)
Very large nice rooms, plenty of free bottled water each day + tea in room but no milk?.
About 5 good night shows in 2 weeks but some were repeated. Typical TUI resort about a 40 minute round walk to the local supermarket. To get to any restaurants, bars, entertainment you need to get the bus or a cab to Albufeira around a 30 minute ride.
The restaurants have much the normal Euro food,as is the norm the food is never hot, but it was nice that the fried eggs were not left to go hard on the counter.
Take care not to leave your food uncovered as the flies are a real pest and will be all over the plate (best to cover the plate with the large napkin provided). The fly issue is not helped as there are NO electric fly killers in any of the restaurants and the salad bar is not covered (I reported to a waiter that there were flies in the salad dressing, he took a spoon and fished them out but left rest of the dish to be used).
The spirit drinks were not to my taste they were the normal jet fuel that All Inclusive hotels seem to serve, so it was a trip to a not so local supermarket to buy a drinkable bottle of rum.
There is a free wally trolly to the beach every 30 minutes, but there is not a lot to do when at the beach. Golf is a big thing at this hotel and there were several parties of golfers there during our visit some rather loud late at night.
All excursions from this resort were very overpriced for what you got for your money.
We had some small issues with the room that were never resolved, the toilet was constantly running 24/7, the balcony doors were very hard to slide and kept being left open by staff, we had to speak to the rep and ask that the housekeeping staff did not leave the doors in the open position after going on to the balcony, the overflowing shower tray did get repaired but it took 3 days. The staff were very nice and very helpful at all times service was quite fast.
Flights in and out were very early morning and the return pick up was around 06:30, the trip from airport to resort is around 1 hour.
The weather was perfect.
I have just returned from here with my mummy and daddy much to my disappointment. I really loved the hotel and staff. My mummy and daddy took me away to celebrate my first birthday! It was so much fun! Although the hotel policy is 4pm check in our suite was ready when we got there at 10am I was very tired after my first ever time on an aeroplane so I was so happy to go off and explore our new digs for the week.
Our suite was sooooo big! Two bedrooms, living room and 3 bathrooms for me to run riot in. the balcony went all the way around the apartment! I could see everything!
Mummy said it was very clean and spacious. Daddy said it was modern.
The food was very nice from what I saw even though I was eating my own baby food my parents always enjoyed the food!
There are 10 big pools which I enjoyed my first ever paddle in. there were plenty of sun beds for mummy to relax on. We didn’t really go to see the night time entertainment as it was way past my bedtime.
I also enjoyed riding on the free tschu tschu train to the beach from the hotel. The beach was amazing. I played in the sand and my daddy took photos.
The hotel staff cleaned our suite every single day and left a crate of water each day for my mummy to make my milk
The baby cot and beds were very comfortable as we often got over 10 hours sleep.
On my birthday my mummy and daddy ordered me a cake for a little celebration in our suite. The hotel staff provided a delicious cake and a big complimentary green bottle in an ice bucket which daddy said I was not allowed for another 17 years!
I had the best first birthday and first holiday ever! We can’t wait to visit again
We spent a week here in the middle of October - my husband and I. There are good things about this hotel but things that aren’t so good.
We were able to get our room as soon as we checked in and not have to wait till 4pm.
The room/suite was lovely and huge - we really liked the room. The shower was marvellous, beds were super comfy and both one of the best we have experienced in a hotel. Yes was dark in the morning but mainly because of the position, sunny in the afternoon.
Food was fine, breakfast was good, lunch and dinner fine - always grilled fish, meat and salads. Can’t understand why previous reviews have said that they couldn’t find something to eat.
Rooms cleaned daily and towels and bedding changed.
Now this is where I don’t think that it should be advertised as Platinum. The bar area was not great - inside the bar smelled really unpleasant, a bit like soured milk/vomit - not good. The area outside could be loads better - very basic with cheap looking tables and chairs, not that clean, ash trays not emptied - just very basic and no particular atmosphere. The sports bar was ok but again just ok - these areas should be much improved in my opinion to warrant the Platinum rating. Also a bit of a moan - for at least 3 nights we took a bottle of wine to our room after dinner with no problem - no challenge from staff and we though that this was ok. However on our last night we did the same, to be challenged by a staff member at the restaurant that this this was not allowed, explained that we had done this previous nights with no problem, he said that no not allowed and if we took it he would have to speak to the manager (not sure what he meant by that - possibly get us ‘done’ lol). Really - we are grown ups and I can’t see what the problem was.
This is nowhere near a Platinum hotel - we paid a very decent price (sale from TUI about £500 each but I checked before we left and the price was about £700) - not worth the normal price. At the time of this review this hotel is not on sale for next year and according to TUI it’s because they are reviewing the contract - think what you think about that.
We finally arrived after a Holiday Taxis coach transfer lasting over two hours at 1.10 a.m. to find the place deserted, we are two disabled travellers. Ricardo on reception was really less than helpful, there was no food and not even any bottled water to enable us to take our medication!
Thankfully our upgraded suite was not a disappointment with a large sitting room, twin bedded room with ample fitted wardrobes and a large bathroom with shower. We also had a large corner balcony in block 7.
The breakfasts were varied and plentiful, all the food was to a very high standard - the best I have had and I have been on quite a number of All Inclusive holidays. The staff (apart from Ricardo) were friendly and helpful especially Joao on reception and the bar staff in the main bar. I can’t praise the maid service highly enough, we are naturally tidy but every day we returned to find our beds made to a military standard - you could bounce a coin off them!
There are ten pools and none of them were crowded during our stay. There was a shallow pool in each section suitable for children and a deeper pool for adults. We were warned by other guests that there had been an infestation of ‘water boatmen’ and that their eggs had been clogging the filters but we didn’t see any evidence of these and we caught the faint whiff of chlorine which we suspect had been used to eradicate them. We didn’t use the pools but those who did seemed to be having fun.
Arriving as we did during the first week in October, the place was very quiet and tranquil, other guests told us it had not been the week before when a whole block had been taken over by a party of Roma who shouted and fought through the nights and were eventually asked to leave! Obviously I can’t comment on the veracity of this but I would say that I would not like to holiday here when it is full to capacity. Judging by the numbering system on the rooms there must be in excess of 7,500!
The weather during our stay was very warm, easily hot enough to sunbathe so I wouldn’t hesitate to book again at this time of year for a late season break.
A lot of thought has gone into making everywhere accessible for all guests including those who are differently abled and we saw some guests on mobility scooters coping well. The paths are cobbled but are passable with care and they are bordered by grass if they cause a problem for those with walking difficulties.
There are also spa facilities available at the Salgados Palms Hotel - prices available at reception.
