We had an amazing stay at Bagh Tola, the primary reason for which was the excellent service of the staff. Bagh Tola provides a tented safari experience, with very knowledgeable naturalists/ guides. We happened to be the only group at the lodge at the time and received the undivided attention of the staff! We were provided with exceptional meals and the staff went out of their way to cater to our needs. Zian, the manager/ naturalist, led an excellent and hard-working team of staff. He, along with Akshay (from the Kanha property) accompanied us on every single game drive, teaching us about the beautiful park and the creatures that live there, including excellent commentary about the Benghal Tiger, which is what many of us were interested in! In the evenings, they’d entertain us with stories about their wilderness experiences. The accommodation was very comfortable, with twice-daily house keeping services offered. They even served tea/ coffee every morning at 4.30am in room (instead of us having to go to the dining room to fetch our tea). Overall, every one of us had a fantastic time at Bagh Tola and give the experience 5 stars!
We stayed at Bagh Tola for 2 nights and 3 days. The property is beautiful and surrounded by plenty of wildlife and agriculture. I strongly recommend staying in the tents, which are spacious and comfortable, with a very nice bathroom and toilet and very comfortable beds, which are important when you are waking up at 5am for the morning safari. We went on two morning safaris and one evening safari and had a tiger sighting each time. In addition to that, the national park is well maintained and absolutely gorgeous, the animals are well protected. Bagh Tola has its own safari gypsy with an extremely skilled driver, Sanju, and their resident naturalist, Zain, who accompanied us on all the safaris and were huge assets in the park. Zain’s knowledge of local birds and animals is excellent. The gypsy was also equipped with three sets of high quality binoculars, which were very useful while on safari.
Bagh Tola is a three hour drive from Jabalpur and they provide transport to and from Jabalpur for a very reasonable price. The Bagh Tola cook makes delicious home-cooked Indian food and is very accommodating to ALL dietary needs (his gaajar halwa was particularly good). The dining room is a large tent, which is cosy and lovely and has a wonderful collection of books on nature. Behind the dining tent, there is gorgeous outdoor seating with a bar and a bonfire set up, perfect for an evening drink. They also have another area for outdoor seating under the canopy of a Mahua Tree and a machan in the forest, where we enjoyed a wonderful lunch on one of the days.
I highly recommend Bagh Tola if you are visiting Bandhavgarh, you will definitely get more than your money’s worth!!
Location- at the periphery of the forest. Hike around the property, there is a watering hole where you may spot animals. Constant chirping of birds and jungle sounds will entertain you.
Tents- luxury accommodation with 5 star comforts. After the tiring safaris it is like coming to an oasis.
Common spaces- open air bar and BBQ grill makes for entertaining evenings. Dining Room which doubles up as a lounge and library is very comfortable.
Safari- Very well organised with immaculate details and care.
ZIAN- the heart and soul of this place. After this trip you will take back cherished memories and a lifelong friend.
Bagh Tola is something you will never expect so far from a major town. The first sight is amazing. Six tents built on stilts. The seventh being the dining room. All tents are elevated about 2 feet off the ground to prevent the creepy crawleys getting in bed with you. The tents are made of canvas and come equipped with toilet and bath. Hot water running 24 hrs. The bedroom has an a/c come heater. High 4 poster modern design bed. Airwell mattresses and pillows. which is what you require after a long day on the trail.
The manager, Pradeep, with his entourage of 6 staff will ensure that you are never left wanting, be it for a hotwater bag for the 6 am sojourn or a sumptuous meal to end the day.
All in all a must visit place.
