We arrived at Budi sun to find out the room we booked was no longer available. The booking agent traveloka (Indonesian booking.com) had not updated the website correctly.
The manager (Jozef) explained to us in good English what the problem was. The hotel was fully booked for the first night but the other nights we could still stay at Budi sun.
So we did not have a room for the night. We contact traveloka via Livechat and explained the situation they involved a special team and where going to call us as soon as they had a solution.
In the mean time the manager called the near by hotels to find out if the had a room for the night. After several calls he found a room in a nearby resort only the price was 3 times higher than what we paid now.
Traveloka called the manager at Budi sun and the came up with the solution that traveloka would pay the room in the other resort so we could sleep there the first night.
So both traveloka and the management at Budi sun helped us really well and solved the problem correctly.
After the first night we spent 2 nights at Budi Sun which is really good. They have a pool unlike most of the other more expensive resorts. And also the food is really good. The are located at the beach so you can choose if you want to swim in the ocean or swimming pool. The staff is really helpful and there English is really good.
We would definitely recommend it to any one staying in or around Maumere.
It is also easy accesible by public bus from Maumere or Moni (kelimutu).
- Dinner has to be ordered in advance. But this is worth it. We had the best food during our travel through Flores and Bali here in Budi Sun resort.
- The staff is very nice, professional and helpful.
- Booked a snorkeling trip to beautiful spots.
- Breakfast was delicious and sufficient portion.
- Room was clean and comfortable.
- Great pool.
- Not really bad, but there is not a lot around the resort you can go to. You will need a car or scooter.
This is as luxurious as it gets in the heart of Flores, but it's no Hilton. The rooms are nice, with good wifi, A/C, the showers have hot water, the resort is small and each guest gets a lot of attention. The staff (especially Joseph) were very friendly and helpful. The food is good, and they are happy to accommodate any dietary preferences (we are vegetarian). There is an extensive selection of fruit juices to choose from. The food prices are very reasonable. The one minus was the pool, which had a green color which means algae and therefore bacteria also is growing, so we decided not to use it.
This is a tropical area, so be prepared to encounter bugs (especially flies) and various critters. We went in dry season, and there wasn’t much of a mosquito problem – still, we saw one or two.
The place is rather isolated, so there is not much to do. However, if you just want a few days to relax it is great. Also, if you expect a perfectly manicured beach with a lifeguard, you won’t find it here! There are a few fishing villages nearby, but basically you have the beach to yourself. The beach starts off with black sand, then there is a layer of rocks, and once you get into the water you’ll find sand again. The ground is silt-like in some places, and with sea grass in some places; water shoes would have been helpful. Nevertheless, if you look around you’ll find some spots good for swimming, at high tide (when you can’t see the little islands in front of the property). Be careful though – we once saw a sea snake, which is shy but venomous.
The sunsets over the Flores sea are wonderful. Also amazing was the snorkeling day trip the hotel arranges to Pangabatang Island. I wish we did that every day! (You can arrange a trip at the reception.) We saw lots of colorful corals and fishes, for example blue starfish (Linckia laevigata). I think this hotel is used more for divers and we did not dive but I could imagine the diving would have been great since the snorkeling was so good.
Budisun, simply has a nice feel about it. Its a lovely place. Ive stayed three times now and will continue to come back. the Coconut garden next door may be newer and fancier ans is the new Capha hotel in town, but both lack the authenticity and feel of Budi Sun. Neti the owner is lovely as are all the staff. Nice clean pool, very clean rooms and a nice location. As tourism is upgrading in the city they may face challenges keeping up with new styles and trends, but to be honest i cant think of a place i'd rather retreat to for a long weekend....
lovely home made bread, good fresh fish, and nice cold drinks. yummy cocktails :)
I will be back
We stayed here in January, with our family, and enjoyed it. The rooms were nice and good value, the breakfast was very generous and delicious; enjoyed the home-made bread. The beach in front is lovely, though not necessarily the best for snorkelling, as there has been a lot of reef damage. But otherwise it's a lovely place, with a generous garden, and lots of space for kids to run around, plus a pool.
