We stayed at the property in a standard room for 2 nights in the 1st week of May. While the property and rooms are decent, what made it comfortable was the friendly atmosphere - not the typical hotel/resort kind, but more of a team, who are all locals from the area, doing the best in their own way.
The standard room is decent and apparently older, but quite clean. It has a king bed with attached bathroom. There is also a tea/coffee making unit in the room.
While standard rooms are in the same building as the reception and dining area, the new rooms are in separate blocks. There are 2 terraces to enjoy the views of the valley, mountains (with waterfalls) as well as the plains (Bangladesh).
Every evening, around 7 pm, there is live music by a team of enthusiasts with a mix of Khasi, English and Hindi songs. The complimentary dinner is served around 8 pm, just towards the end of the music performance. Mr Dennis also gave an overview of the region and the culture.
Breakfast is served around 7.30 am. All food at the property is vegetarian.
While the food buffet is limited, it was exactly what we wanted - homely style, tasty food and it had a mix both local and other influences. They have a running kitchen during the rest of the day with a fixed menu. Try the pakoras on a rainy/cold evening :). Thanks to Mr Dennis, his daughter Angela, their family, friends and all folks part of the team for the lovely stay. Also to the boy (I missed his name) who helped us with luggage and who also sets up the camp fire in the evenings.
There is no good network/internet access - which is infact great :).
The hotel also helped us with Nongriat trek - providing pointers on itinerary, arranging vehicle to drop/pick and also the guide Mr. Frederick who guided us during the trek.
And another point wherein the hotel helped us is by referring us to the driver brothers Bah Shim and Jay Shim for travel needs. Both of them are calm and good drivers - keeping to speed limits, no overtaking etc. We took their services for all our transport needs later on.
This is a charmingly beautiful place located away from the city and is quiet and peaceful. (The hotel can arrange for a cab/driver if required and the place is easily accessible via google maps, so no accessibility issues.)
I stayed in a premium room, which is quite spacious and well-lit and has a beautiful view from the window. All the facilities provided were quite good, it was extremely comfortable and felt like home. The staff members were also generally very warm and welcoming. Food was good as well.
We had a wonderful time in Cherrapunjee on our various adventure trips, also courtesy the enthusiastic guide and the cab drivers, which the resort arranged for us.
If you are a nature and an adventure buff, Cherrapunjee is the place to be. If you are looking for a calm and serene place away from all the noise and the hustle of the city, then Cherrapunjee Holiday Resort is the place to stay.
This place is nothing like what was shown in the pictures on web site. Hotel does not even look like a hotel. Hotel staff is so rude and negligent. We were told the dinner time from 7.30 to 9.30 as well as it was printed on their day's menu. But we were forced to eat before 8.30 as they wanted to close early. Food containers was not even refilled even while knowing that we have not even started our dinner. We had to wait for the food to be refilled to the point where we lost our apatite and decided not to eat anymore.
The room structure was so bad. The bed mattresses was so horrible we could not even sleep on them. the bedsheet was put on the blankets so we had to make our own bed in the hotel room.
The reception, dining area and rooms are all on the same area. Its like you open your room door and someone is eating in front of your room door. It gives you constant feeling of someone is sitting right outside your door.
Probably we had too much expectations from this place after seeing the pictures and reading the reviews. Not worth a single penny.
I and my friend visited this resort on 11&12 March. It was my second trip to cherrapunje and second visit to this resort. Though previously it was more beautiful according to my feeling but now it has developed more with new building and annexe building. But the rooms are decent, very clean, spacious, staff very cordial and owner also very friendly. The ambience is still the same, the buffet breakfast and dinner is really wholesome and I liked a lot. You get to taste local pineapple and mulberry juice . Overall it's a grand experience and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay there. I stayed in a standard double bed room. One should not leave the opportunity to stay here once you are in cherrapunje.
The choice of staying here was made by a friend. IT certainly turned out to be a great choice, We were a group of old friends and we could not have asked for a better experience. We were greeted by the friendly staff on arrival and they were very attentive to all our need. In fact some electric points were not working in the room allotted to me and I was upgraded to an other room till the next day when the resort had things back in Order.
the rooms are quite basic but clean and neat. the food was very good, like home food and had a wide variety. The Evening bonfires were a great place to chat around. .All in all a great place and cheers to Mr. Dennis for his exceptional hospitality.
