We stayed across the road at the sister hotel, Kaya Sol in 2017. Iluminar - 2 stories and closer to the beach was being built at the time and we were anxious to come back and try it out. It is much pricier than Kaya Sol - which is a budget hotel and a bit worn, but the accommodations at Iluminar are private, airy, modern, roomy, and like new. We stayed upstairs and had a balcony porch with a marginal view of the ocean over the top of the yoga pavilion. The room was pretty perfect, clean, large, and really comfortable. There is a spiral stairway to the top of the roof for a better view, but only one broken plastic chair to sit on, and no table or other place to sit. There was no wifi, which was okay with us for only 4 days...one had to go across the road to Kaya Sol to get reception. There was an option to plug in direct, but we still only got a signal in our room one time while we were there, and the couple we were traveling with could not get a signal at all. We got a special with beach cruisers, daily yoga, and breakfast at the Naked Cafe. It was a good breakfast, but we missed the restaurant that used to be at Kaya Sol. The pool is also across the road at Kaya Sol, but it is pretty small, and a little dingy and tired. The cruisers were perfect for getting around Nosara, both on the roads, and the beach. The only hang up was when tires needed pumping up it was a hassle to find anyone at the desk who could locate a pump so our trips were a bit delayed a couple of times. Riding around town on bikes and down the beach on the hard packed sand was really fun. We took a couple of yoga classes. We are experienced yogis, but were surprised that the instructor did not ask us anything about our experience level, or whether or not we had any injuries or limitations. She just conducted the class as though she already knew us. All in all, if it is in your price range, the location (proximity to the ocean and good restaurants) and the accommodations can't be beat, in our opinion.
My Family and I stayed at Iluminar during the Christmas break. It is located right on the edge of the protected border between the beach and the town. With some rented surfboards on the patio and a short walk down a private path to the beach - it provided for an amazing surf vacation. If you prefer Yoga - there is a an amazing thatch roofed Yoga Ranco right on the property. The rooms were very well designed, and I particularly liked the outdoor shower on our first floor room.
If you need a pool or restaurant - you have the facilities of the sister hotel Jaya Sol surf hotel readily available.
but at the end o the day it is all about people. Ryan and Sohan and their staff were great, attentive, friendly - and made for a very pleasant stay.
I look forward to my next trip to iLuminar in Nosara
I stayed at Illuminar for a week over New Year's and it was an amazing experience! I highly recommend staying there for anyone that wants a beautiful retreat a short walk down a jungle path to the beach.
The hotel is the sister property of Kaya Sol so you have access to all the amenities including restaurant, pool and help from the owners Ryan and Sohan and Suzy the manager. They're all super friendly and warm and made our group feel like part of their family.
I've traveled a lot, but I have to say my room at Illuminar was one of the nicest places I've stayed. The rooms are beautifully designed and furnished with lots of creative, personal touches -- it's clear that a lot of thought and love has been put into it. In addition to the spacious room you have an outdoor terrace and if you stay on the second floor you have your own deck for gazing at the stars. I was traveling with several families who stayed at Kaya Sol which has more of a fun/family vibe -- Illuminar is best for people that want a quieter retreat.
They're in the final stages of finishing an open air yoga studio in front which I'm looking forward to trying next year!
Thank you so much for a beautiful stay -- I'm honored to be one of your first guests and wish you all the best!!!
